This next film in the James Bond series is set to hit theaters in the U.K. and Ireland on Friday, 10/26/12 and in the U.S. on Friday, 11/9/12. Skyfall will be directed by Sam Mendes and will be a standalone story from the previous two James Bond films (2006's Casino Royale and 2008's Quantum of Solace). Daniel Craig will return for a third consecutive stint as James Bond. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G

Just watched it. Best Bond film I've ever seen (but I'm young, I've only been watching them since GoldenEye). Most of the film felt like I was watching The Dark Knight Rises again. This film recreated that same dark, gritty, somber aesthetic. The music, especially, sounded very similar at times. Javier Bardem, as expected, was a great villain. Right now, the only disappointment I can think of is his death scene. This story felt much more personal to Bond than previous 007 films. He didn't kill him "for England." This was personal, and that death, I felt, was not personal enough. Next up on my list: Lincoln.
I planned to watch the film this past weekend but had to change plans at the last minute. I hope to watch it any day now and am glad to hear/read that it's really good. Daniel Craig is thankfully under contract for at least two more James Bond films, though hopefully we won't have to wait another four years for the next one. I hope to watch that film soon too. I went with my boys to watch it this afternoon. Good moments but needed about 1/2 hour edited from the second act. Also a little discouraging to have a 44-year-old Bond derided throughout the movie as being too old and over the hill.
If I'm already old and over the hill and considering that he's about 3 1/2 years older than me, wouldn't it stand to reason that he's too old and over the hill as well (or is it different for him being that he's James Bond?)? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I read some reviews that also complained about the age thing. For M to be on the verge of retirement is one thing -- the actor is nearing 80 -- but Bonds are traditionally late 40ish/early-50ish, so Craig is still on the young side. Of course, the reviews I read also bemoaned this not being a Bond movie in the traditional mode, that there was a little too much American Beauty with all the artsy cinematography and angsty subplots. And an hour longer than a Bond movie should be. Bonds should be fast-paced and light. In my opinion, echoed in many neg reviews. As for relative ages...there are people who seem ancient while still in their 20s. So maybe you lucked out and got into that bunch, Goodsie?
Reviews are actually saying that Daniel Craig is now too old to play James Bond (granted, I haven't seen the movie yet and thus have avoided most reviews to this point)? The James Bond film franchise apparently went to a darker, grittier tone due to the success of the Jason Bourne film franchise. It's interesting that you mentioned American Beauty, as both that and Skyfall were directed by Sam Mendes (the former of which he won a Best Director Academy Award for). GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Yet another aspect of the movie that reminded me of Christopher Nolan's Batman films. Our dark hero being questioned, by others as well as himself, whether his life's mission is a lost cause. A villian out to prove that the hero's methods of maintaining order and justice are outdated in a brave new world. The hero's willingness to break the rules and go rogue to defeat this enemy. Reminiscences on a sad family history, complete with a broken down mansion that still haunts the hero today. Even includes a scene where the villian supposedly wanted to be captured as part of his greater plot, like Joker in TDK.
Yeah, it's why everyone is mentioning AB! Which was a great movie...just not a Bond movie. Craig looks gaunt and craggy, whereas other Bonds maintained the look (a little weathered but still dapper) into their 50s. There was a preview featuring Arnold, who is about 20 years older than Craig -- back to holding down a respectable job -- and you know, I didn't see that much difference. (His movie looked kind of dumb to me, but the boys are already itching to see it.) I know it's tough to read these comparisons, especially when it's your birthday month. You don't want to be hanging around the Facebook campus, that's for sure.
