Phelan is saying he was basically running the team for the past 5 years. "My first thoughts are to be the boss," Phelan told the Daily Mail, having been asked about a return to football. "It’s the progression for me now. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last five years, albeit with the title of assistant boss." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...r-Alex-Fergusons-Manchester-United-reign.html
Well, that might explain some of the shit that went on over the past 5 years. Seriously though, he won't help himself trying to take too much credit (whether it's true or not). SAF has legendary status in the media, and they'll just paint Phelan out as some court jester trying to undermine a legends achievements.
There's another article in the Daily Mail on the same subject.... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...rs-Manchester-United.html?ico=sport^headlines Sounds like he expected to be taken care of by Man Utd, and then Moyes tossed them all out. OTOH, maybe that's why Moyes tossed them all out!
Sounds like he is looking for a job. But the fact of the matter is, the majority of us have been bitching up a storm about tactics and the like since Quieroz left, so I would not be surprised that the ineptness and lack of progression by our club is Phelan-inspired.
Maybe they were the reason for our down fall. Fergie gave them too much power and control unfortunately.
^Apparently they can keep the trains running on time. Good thing, but they can't pick a center midfielder....
This time last year I ignored the importance this man held at the club and how impossible it would be to replace him. I impatiently waited to watch every next game knowing we will play the united way, the fergie way and playing an exciting united game of football! I never thought in a million years thay a year from that date I would be dreading to watch a Manchester United game, knowing a outcome before it materialised. I can't even stomach to watch the dreadful football we play. I miss Saf .. Quote from Meulensteen about Saf and the players. Meulensteen also revealed he remains in contact with Sir Alex Ferguson, his former boss at Old Trafford. "I have spoken to him like I do, on and off. Sometimes he rings me and sometimes I ring him. He is always a phone call away," said the Dutchman. "I have always felt that whenever we stared into adversity or disappointment, I have always found him remarkably strong in those moments. "You could never spot any doubt in his words or behaviour, that always transferred back to the players and I want to do exactly the same (at Fulham)."
So, where does this leave Fergie? Did he fight to the death in the boardroom for his pick and will now have to resign? Did he become a bit pragmatic at the end, and will try to stay on?
If some rumors are to be believed, he kept his mouth shut after FA Cup. He didn't back him vocalky anymore although he didn't encourage a sacking
I am confused as to why he said Giggs should be permanent manager. Maybe he was drunk at that function where he said it. If he believed in Giggs, why not make him manager last year? What has changed between last year and now, Giggs hasn't learned anything new. He's the same guy. I really don't trust Fergie's judgment on managers. Not that Woodward and Glazers are doing a knockout job, but Fergie is too opinionated and close to the issue to give an honest answer.
I wonder who will we get to replace LVG, Guardiola is the only one I see and he isn't going to come unless we have an advantage to our competition. (which we do over the league in terms of spending power but not over the elites of Europe)
Thought LVG pretty much confirmed that the boardroom folks want Giggs next. Pep is going to manage City next year.
