I'm sorry. I didn't see this earlier. I love the song, great find! I would prefer just a Houston version but English will do. I'll propose it to some peeps, and I will even try to look more into it. If I can get full lyrics and stuff, I'll try to bring it up at the Scorpions game with the five peeps that may be going. That's a smaller group to get to sing a song. If it works maybe we can all get together and convince them to bring it out.

I like it. Could make the lyrics something like "Lo lo lo lo, lo lo lo lo lo, who will be the champions? Houston Dynamo." To make it flow a little more smoothly.

Rebirth Brass Band got me thinking this weekend:

    Hey hey Houston Dynamo
    Houston Dynamo
    Hey hey Houston Dynamo
    Houston Dynamo

    Excellent,
Now tell me, who in their right mind wouldn't start singing that out loud (specially with a few drinks on them)
But I think we need to say something else besides "Houston Dynamo"... like

    Hey hey, who's gon' win?
    Houston Dynamo!!!
Hey hey, who are the best?
    Houston Dynamo!!!

I know it's pretty kitschy, but Deep in the heart of Texas would be a helluva a song to sing, and the whole crowd could participate. I'm sure it has been discussed that during the game @ Seattle, the Sounders fans derisively sung it at us. I say ******** it, let's use it.

That's an interesting idea. Gremio fans in Porto Alegre, Brazil, usually sing the anthem of the the State of Rio Grande do Sul before games. That state, like Texas, fought a war of independence in the nineteenth century, and still maintains what we can call, say, a very strong sense of place and its own history.

"Deep in the Heart of Texas" is certainly well-known here. Rice baseball plays it during the seventh-inning stretch and everyone knows it. IIRC, the Astros were also using it, although it's been a while since I've been to an Astros game, so I may just be conflating their seventh-inning stretch with the one at Reckling Park. In any event, the key is that it's already very well-known and local.

I like this idea since it's unique to Texas and the whole crowd will know it. They still sing it at Astros games.

Over on the Walker End website, they had discussed doing it in the 65th minute, with some minor lyric changes:

The stars at night - are big and bright.
Deep in the heart of Texas.
The air is thick, - you'll tire quick.
Deep in the heart of texas.
We like it hot - and you do not.
Deep in the heart of texas.
And you can bet - that you will sweat.
Deep in the heart of texas.
One things for sure - Orange will score!
Deep in the heart of texas.
Your heads will hang - You'll wish you sang.
Deep in the heart of texas.
THE DYNAMO - WILL SURELY ROLL!!!
Deep in the heart of Texas.
VICTORY!!!! - IS ALL WE SEE!!!!
Deep in the heart of texas.

Interesting. Changing the lyrics around may make sense in some ways, but the rest of the fans in the stadium aren't likely to learn new lyrics for the same reasons that they're unlikely to learns any of the current multi-verse songs. The main advantage of Deep in the Heart of Texas is that so many people in the stadium will already know it and don't have to learn any new lyrics. That being said, the refrain is obvious and easy, so everyone can still jump in for that part.

Agreed, best to keep it the same so everyone knows just this one. The whole point is to find one song everyone can sing. If you end up chaing the lyrics to that too, then we're right back where we started other than the chorus line.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to have 2-3 chant leaders.
We can't be having everybody singing their own song.
