And is it odd that a Portland supporter had post 1974 while a Seattle supporter was 1975? I think something cosmic is occurring.
I'm watching US-Canada women's soccer on FOX Sports. After Canada's third yellow card of the first half, the FOX graphic said Major League Soccer instead of Canada. FS1 is still FSC bad with graphics. 2015 here we come!
I was at the Carolina Hurricanes game tonight and saw a guy in a Timbers t-shirt. Which was exceptionally weird...wrong sport, wrong color, wrong city.
BBC World News opening headlines - on PBS 1) UN scolds Vatican 2) UN Syria report 3) Beckham exercises MLS option: "Bringing it Beckham"
The Beckham thing is world news because it's Beckham, but yeah, it's news everywhere. http://www.ad.nl/ad/nl/1017/Buitenl...eckham-koopt-Amerikaanse-profclub-Miami.dhtml
Yeah, but even though Beckham is the reason the news is everywhere, it is still worldwide publicity of Beckham's faith in the long term viability of the league.
Here is some local news video of the Beckham appearance that got ugly in Miami. http://www.nbcmiami.com/on-air/as-s...r-Being-Swarmed-By-Crowd_Miami-243795301.html
This morning on 820 am News Talk Florida, they mentioned the Chicago Fire/DC United scrimmage that's being played today at IMG Academy.
While watching the USWNT/Russia match (in Boca Raton), I saw a guy in the stands wearing a 2014 Portland MLS All-Star match shirt. Interesting choice for a match of that type in that location, I thought.
In the run up to the Super Bowl I happened upon SportsCenter - something I rarely watch. One of the anchors was Max Bretos and they were introducing a piece about Manning trying to earn his second championship ring. Max pointed out that he had one, an LA Galaxy MLS Cup Champion ring as team broadcaster in 2005, and he showed it.
This is a tenuous one, but on Kroll Show this past week there was a sketch that was like Dragons' Den but with 3 sportsmen looking to invest. The fake judges were a baseballer, something else and an Argentine soccer player who had "moved to Seattle for a higher salary" or something. Not specifically MLS, but I have to imagine the league's exposure over the last couple of year with big-money deals led to the inclusion.
Omar Salgado was on People's Court.....The case introduction part with Harvey Levin where he asks questions of a small crowd before 'going back into the courtroom'. They do it from LA so it probably was done in his off season. Looked like he was there with a girlfriend or sister. Asked him something quick about the case. Yes I was watching the People's Court. Don't judge me.
The New York Red Bulls were part of an answer on Jeopardy this evening. The question, "what is soccer?", was swiftly and correctly guessed.
Aw I saw that episode later on the DVR. I think it was a higher dollar value so it should have been "The name to which the Metrostars changed."
Roma announced their new stadium project. They are taking design elements from the new San Francisco (Levi's Stadium) and Kansas City (Sporting Park) stadiums in their project... Pallotta confirms Roma’s stadium presentation at the end of March “We’ll present the stadium project at the end of March. Very modern, high-technology. In Europe there is no such thing. There is something in the U.S., San Francisco and Kansas City.It will be a modular structure that can be adapted to events of 15, 25 or 45 thousand spectators. We will have at least 200 of those a year, including games, concerts, rugby matches, also a jazz festival.
I have a feeling they'll sterilize that atmosphere Roma has now. There's something beautiful in the tradition of the Italian curvas that's hard to duplicate in a modern stadium
