The birth rate is very low. Its so low in fact you'll likely see a great reduction in population of 'Italian born' citizens. More importantly there aren't enough newborn's to supplement the debt and welfare amassed by the seniors and their government representatives. Even now the young people are destitute and are either trying to leave or differed to farm work/land cultivation (which isn't such a bad idea these days).

Not a official fan or supporter of the Azzuri but I don't know why anybody would Hate the Italian national team perhaps France but there shouldn't be any hate. I personally have always admired the great players that Italy have produced over the decades and if you think about it with all the wins Italy has in International football in probably should have more then what they have. Italy bouncing back in the Euro 2012 really showed that they are resurgent and on the rise and that 2010 was an aberration and a new generation will be arriving and continue the elite level for Italia.

In 1982 we had to beat Argentina, Brazil and Germany to win the WC. In 2006 we had to beat the host country (Germany) in spectacular and dramatic fashion to get to the final and win the WC. In 2012 we had to beat Germany, who were favored to win it all, to get to the final. I don't know where you got the idea that Italy has "eked" out victories against minnows.

You underestimate Italians. After the fall of the longest lasting empire in history, Italy went into a dark age, but then came the Renaissance and Italy became the center of the Western world again. Then came foreign occupation of the Italian republics. Then came the Risorgimento and Italy became one again. After WW2 Italy was destitute, but came back again. Italy always comes back. In football, Italy lost its national team in a plane crash in 1949. It took a generation, but in 1970 Italy was back in the World Cup finals. And, then won it it again in 1982 and 2006. Italy always comes back.
You're confusing "Italians" with an overlapping variation of peoples living in a range of different kingdoms and later "regioni" until the creation of the Italian republic in the lat 1800's. Technically 'Italians' never really existed until very recently or at least not in the sense that you're trying to convey. Civilizations bounce back all the time but they're rarely ever the same 'union' of peoples as they were before. The way things are going right now Italy could very likely break up in to small countries again which is a typical outcome when large republics have so much economical pressure put on them.
Italy is fast being turned into the shithole of western Europe by no one other than the Italians themselves, by way of their corruption. This is the "economic pressure" you speak of -- Monti's national energy policy, for example. My region, Abruzzo, in a couple of decades time will be unrecognizable because corrupt and greedy politicians are selling farmland and national parks to multinational energy companies who want to come in and drill for oil and gas. My father has his late fathers farm in Turrivalignani which is a small town 30 kilometers from Pescara.
