Well, someone has to keep up the optimism around here...

GoogleTranslate tells me they've had their eyes on the Icelandic keeper for quite a while - does this mean that Angerer was a pleasant surprise coming their way by chance when Nordby left [while bearing in mind that they already signed her prior to WWC 2007], or were they expecting Angerer to last no more than one season from the start?

And how long has "this man" been with Djurgården? Was he there in the good old days already?

The LDB has announced a press conference for tomorrow at 1500 hours CET, where they will introduce the "World Cup star" they have signed. The release doesn't mention any top five (or top seven or top ten, that also have been thrown around). The only clue is that they're talking about a "World Cup star", but doesn't mention the Olympics. Could mean nothing, since "World Cup" weighs a lot more than "Olympic" in Sweden.

Anyways, just for the fun of it, stars from China World Cup, who didn't play in the Beijing Olympics:
    Lisa De Vanna
    Abby Wambach
    Kelly Smith
(all from the 2007 All Star team). I know this is utterly preposterous, but Wambach would be sweeeet.

Awww, "God love you!" as my mother would say. :D

Mind you, the Washington team don't seem to be managing to keep up with the twists and turns otherwise. They don't seem to have noticed that Ally Krieger 1) is under contract with Frankfurt and 2) has just been injured and probably won't be able to play at all for the next 3 months. And Mykjåland is still on their team page: http://www.womensprosoccer.com/dc/?team=dc .

Oh, just read that Krieger's injury was jogging-related too. What is it with "Frankfurters" and their dangerous jogging habits?

I read somewhere today that Daniela wasn't looking likely for the WPS. Would she consider Sweden? (I know she played in the Olympics, but as you say, WWC sounds more impressive...)

Well, since she spent last season in Linköping, that might be a "yes" on considering Sweden.

    Duh.

But I came up with it all by myself, does that count as an independent opinion...?
(The question is, why didn't I notice/remember her better?)

I'm putting a damper on it here, but the most probable signing still is Renata Costa. She's the only name that has been mentioned in connection with Malmö other than as wild speculation. She already plays in Scandinavia (OB, Denmark). And the comment last night on my blog comes from a Brazilian source, who has been very reliable previously.

And the Hand Cream man either just wants to string us along. Or he has no clue who is on FIFA's top 10.

Am I allowed to think that'd be a major disappointment?

All bad news today. Major bummer about Odenyo, I was really looking forward to seeing her play. And what is Daniela going to do, if neither here nor WPS? You could argue that Hand Cream already have an enforcer (Fischer) and someone else to make pretty forward passes (Sjögran), but still, I think they could have made a place for her...

Ah, Daniela. My very favorite Brazilian, ever since she sent Abby Wambach flying several meters through the air back in WUSA. On the other hand, Daniela got absolutely flattened by Öqvist in the last cup match (and they were on the same team!). Does this mean that Öqvist could take out Wambach? Somehow I find it hard to imagine.

    Renata Costa it is indeed.

    I am officially disappointed.

And why can't anyone get more information about her injury??? I regret my previous tribute to the local paper. I was devastated to hear that it could be very serious, but now it's getting even worse not hearing anything at all about it. What does it mean? That it's really, really bad or that it's not that bad after all???

As far as Costa is concerned, much ado about nothing...

Well, I wouldn't exactly say "nothing", but she doesn't rate as one of my favourites.

And Linköping's press relations people/webmasters seem to be on holiday. Landström is out of the national team friendly next week due to injury, but there's no info on that either.

Linköping's new coach, Magnus Wikman, says in an interview on damfotboll.com that he's very worried about Odenyo's injury and that she's not expected to arrive in Linköping from the US until March.

And I know I was the one who was wondering this, but I'm sure there's universal concern for Jessica Landström now... ;). The reason she's out of the national team friendly is that she's still not fully fit after a knee operation in October. 0.98 Fischers obviously takes a while to heal.

But really, by now they must have got the results from the x-ray? I mean we're in the information age, right? Seems very confusing to me.

I wish Hedvig hadn't given up on translating her posts to English for...well...uhhh...maybe just me. lol. I hope this move of Lindahls proves to be a good one. From '08 cup winner to '08 6th in Damallsvenskan.

As part of the "Grooming Young Brazilians Up North" campaign, Sunnanå have signed 20 year-old Brazilian keeper, Barbara, on a short-term contract from March to July.

Or, from an audience average of 1 983 to 712. On the other hand, Göteborg really needs a steady hand in the defence. I read somewhere that their (famous) coach has to "deliver".

By the way, Hedvig has a question on her site: " I have changed teams, what do you think about that?" The possible answers are: 1. you should have stayed in LFC, 2. Good for LFC that you left, 3. Right to change teams, but why Göteborg, 4. totally right choice.

As much as Linkoping looks like a really cute town, I got the sense that LFC was going in a way different direction that HL was not comfy with. Maybe I'm wrong. I picked 3. I'm kind of glad she left, as I'm uncertain about LFC. But KGFC seems to be a middling team. I don't know their history, though. Hopefully this turns out good for HL.

    I loled at #2. Good for LFC :( :D.

But now I am reeeeally curious about the elsewherementioned "Camilla". :D Nkpg can't be that nice.

Yep. But it's only Norway ;). They're trotting out the young 'uns for this one. Well, apart from Svensson and Sjögran. Oh, and Sara "Loved by the Land of the Free" Larsson.

Well? So there aren't any young 'uns worth nominating in Djurgården - that's bad enough...

Alright, I tried deep breathing exercises and various other relaxation techniques, but I cannot just let it go. Let's get this one thing straight, if nothing else. I didn't leave Djurgården. Djurgården left me. If Djurgården wants to come a-crawling to my door, and make me an offer, I would be more than happy to listen to its pathetic pleas for forgiveness. I think it could be amusing, really, and I would absolutely savor every second of it.

Would I just be teasing, or would I actually take Djurgården back? Well, everyone has a price. But my price, in this case, would be high. And I would demand back-payments at an extortive interest rate, and an extra fee for the pain and suffering of 2008. And a bonus on top of that, for what I can only imagine is going to be a rough 2009.

(*ahem* I asked you a long time ago if they ever talked about me, and you never said anything. so... ?)

Would you consider payment in kind and if so, what would be acceptable?

I'm not talking about you, you rabid whippet. I'm talking about Hingst . Just to name one.

I think you and the counsellor of your choice might want to work on those grandiose delusions of yours. Djurgården and I talk only of the old days. There's nothing in the future for us, and this realisation keeps us focused firmly on the past. "Ah, remember those days when you had some good players?"... "Ah, remember that Women's Cup match against Potsdam?"... Good times indeed.
