I don't think this, I just said it's a a possibility, which it is. Anything is a possibility at this point.
A German article on how Parker is hoping next year will go better than this one has gone so far: http://www.wiesbadener-tagblatt.de/...05-hofft-neues-jahr-neues-glueck_13736856.htm
He needs to learn what it means to be a full professional. The quotes from his coach: "He is not yet independent enough to deal with everything in his life that a Bundesliga professional has to take care of," says Tuchel. "Shawn," explains Tuchel, "needs close and consistent/determined guidance. That is why we are all called upon to help him. And we do it gladly."
So, it looks like he is a bit of a knucklehead(takes one to know one). I wonder how he and Klinsi would possibly mesh.
To me that sounds like he is a bit of a rebel, someone you have to keep a tight leash to stay in the right course. Early on, I picked up on that when he was answering questions about playing for the USA. And he came out a bit arrogant, something a long the lines of "I/we'll call you". Early on his his first season he was more wild, he didn't mind getting yellow cards in bunches. He is a good player but he can be a distraction if you let him go lose.
Question: why isn't the US recruiting Parker as much as Green? Parker is two years older, and has actually played 17 bundesliga games so far (and scored 3 goals). Shouldn't Klinsman/Herzog also be offering Parker the chance to train with the team? Or is Parker just not interested at all?
He's been a regular with the German U-21s. Green is relatively new to the U-19 program. Different situations.
Parker's career has hit quite a wall with Mainz, not even a regular starter currently. Just on the bench again for 90 minutes yesterday. I am surprised that he hasn't considered a career- enhancing national team switch yet. Perhaps he is just not interested.
Yeah, Parker has been a complete non-factor for Mainz this season, not least because the other attackers have been productive. It doesn't look like he'll get playing time anytime soon.
Plus the above-mentioned maturity problems might be keeping the U.S. from courting him at the moment.
If he's stagnating at Mainz and not playing for them, how is he still considered a regular with the German U-21s?
He's a regular call-up, but usually a reserve for Germany U21. The problem is that his role (striker/winger sub) directly overlaps with Choupo-Moting, a stylistically similar but much more experienced and established player with 6 goals this year, mostly as a substitute. I think it's partly Parker's developmental stage and partly a numbers game at Mainz.
Kind of. If you're backing up a backup at Mainz - one of the most frugal teams in the 1.BL whose key offseason acquisition (Okazaki) cost 1 mln Euro - contextually it's quite different from being weaned into the strongest team in the world as an 18 year old. In the USMNT discussion the real point of contention is that Parker doesn't seem to have ever expressed active interest.
To be fair, Okazaki would be a lock starter for the USMNT. Being behind him isn't indicative that Parker's not good enough for the US.
Yeah - he doesn't necessarily lack the quality to get US callups, it's just tough because Choupo-Moting is also ahead of Parker in the pecking order. I think the issue is more that he isn't strongly interested in the USMNT and is at a tenuous point in his career.
Seems like the DFB may have said if you reciprocate interest then we'll cut you from our program...can't really blame Parker there as I'm sure he wants to keep his options open
As a suspected a long time ago, he is a head case, probably is not good at taking criticism or been told what to do.
