Hey all! Contacting you from the United States. As you may (or may not) know, Shamrock Rovers played in the 1967 American soccer experiment: the "United Soccer Association". They played just one season, the whole team moved to Amercia for the summer to stay fit and played other European/South American teams that took on American names. They played at the Manning Bowl in Lynn, Massachusetts. Well, a few years ago the Manning Bowl was demolished and a new Manning Field was put in it's place. That's now the home to my local Division 4 (highest semi-pro division) team, Mass United FC. There's some talk of the team putting together a "Boston Rovers Heritage Night", including wearing Boston Rovers throwbacks. Which is where it gets tricky. We want to be 100% as accurate as possible to what was worn by the Boston Rovers teams of 1966-67 and 1967-68. I know that white/green hooped shirt and socks are a must, but what colour shorts were worn that year? The Boston Rovers logo shows black shorts, but that would be odd, no? It also shows a "pocket square" style crest. Would that be accurate to the time? (check out the logo as hosted on Chris Creamer's page: http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=6058) Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
There was a fella, NYHoop, who doesn't seem to post here anymore who could have helped you. If you go on www.foot.ie, league of Ireland forum someone will have the right answer for you or google Shamrock Rovers fans forum.
Hey Achowat from the copies of New York Times I have for that 1967 tour only 2 of the games had pictures. The opening game against Detroit and the third game against Cleveland Rovers wore the traditional Hoops with white shorts and Hooped socks. I would imagine that they would have played in these colours for the other ten games. I have a big interest in this tour and the 1961 trip so if you want any more info PM me. http://homepages.sover.net/~spectrum/year/1967.html KOH
