First of all, I'm not saying that Wambach should be cut right now. She has deserved every opportunity to make the final 2015 WWC roster, all the way up through the spring of 2015 at least. If she were to ever be cut, then it would indeed happen around May of 2015 at the earliest. The final evaluation of her would be made just a few short weeks before the WWC. She deserves that. No ifs, ands, or buts, about it. However, when that final evaluation does occur, I don't think Sermanni has the balls to cut Wambach, if it were to come to that. Hopefully she'll be in great shape by then, hopefully she'll still have a lot left in the tank, hopefully she'll still be just as clutch, and can go strong for at least 60 minutes if needed. But let's just say she does start to regress more and more from now through the next 12-15 months. Let's say she isn't one of the Top 21 overall players (or more accurately, let's say she isn't one of the Top 4 or 5 forwards on the team at that point). Let's say Sarah Hagen is tearing it up by then, and that taking Hagen and the rest of the top forwards on the team to the WWC would be the right decision over Wambach. If so, would Sermanni have the courage to not include her on the final 2015 WWC roster? I don't think he has it in him. He seems like the "play it safe" type (i.e. make the decision that will ruffle the least feathers, instead of making the best decision). Are those the type of coaches that win a lot of championships? No. For the record, I'm hoping Wambach makes it. I would LOVE to see her win the WWC, and go out on top. And after that, if she comes back for the Olympics in 2016, even better. However, the decision on her needs to be a business decision, not a goodwill decision. Hopefully she'll earn it through a business decision.
Ninja, ain't nobody got time to read all that. But based on the thread title, I'll just say that I think TS should let her play for as long as she wants....
Yes, because we all want to see a 79 year old Wambach playing against North Pole at the 2059 WWC. Ninja please.
So... Every forward should be cut, because the current group has scored one goal in the Algarve. Even Leroux was a bit of luck.
I have a suggestion for Abby Wambach: If you're worried about conditioning, then get up early in the morning and go running.
She could hire Rocky Balboa to help her along and it would be a movie called "Wambach". At the end of the film, it could say "loosely based on true events"...
And yet, I would take Wambach cleaning up those garbage goals if we ended the year with one player on 28 goals and another on 27 goals. We have players missing one v ones with the gk right now.
What was that one movie called again? "How Estella got her Groove Back". How about .... "How Wambach got her Womb Back" She needs to find her moJo again. She's lost her confidence.
How Stella Got Her Groove Back. How Abby Got Her Womb Back. How Chevy Got his "Vroom" Back. *Chevy Chase driving his vehicle in "Vacation"
