So it looks like Tracy is here for a while. I'm updating to add him, and to change out lottery status. I have no idea what type of contract he signed, but I think it is safer to move a current player making $44k off budget than to put him there. He isn't currently listed on the quakes site, so no hints there.

That's the salary that guys who are in those roster spots make in MLS, check every team's roster. It's the minimum salary for guys under 24, and that minimum used to be $13k just 4 years ago. Heck, Wondo only made $48k back in 2010 after he had played in MLS for several years and was off his "rookie contract". So while it may not look like much compared to other professional leagues, but in the scheme of MLS it's actually pretty good.

The Murk had more recent figures for a few salaries, particularly Morrows new contract with a much deserved raise. I found the MLS Players Union figures for Oct 1st, and have updated the list below. I had to move a couple of names around to fit into the contract categories. By my calculations we are now at $2.5 millionish. With Beta, Baca, and (fingers crossed!) Dawkins in need of raises for the next year I don't think $300K will be enough to go around. Khari and Sercan are making a lot of money for guys who rarely play. . .

The team should get allocation dollars for being in the CCL next year, but won't get the "you didn't make the playoffs allocation", so that probably means they have the same amount of money to spend next year as they had this year. Don't forget that the salary figures in that report don't include loan/transfer fees (and we know the Quakes paid a loan fee for Dawkins this year).

Bottom line, you have to assume that Khari and Sercan are gone next year (or signed for significantly less money). And if Ramiro wants to keep playing, then he needs to take a salary cut. Hopefully Opara can stay on Gen Adidas one more year and be "free" from a salary cap perspective. While he's played well, it's not clear that Baca gets a new contract next year, he's still locked into his current one and the Quakes could make him wait another year. Beitashour, however, should be out of contract so he either moves on or gets a new contract. I also wonder if Bernardez is under a multiple year contract or if it was just one year - in either case, he probably gets a raise next year to keep him happy.

did Lenny get a raise recently? I'm shocked to see he's making 50% more than Gordo... not that he's not worth $180k, but I had thought he was earning indentured servant pay.

No change in either Lenny's or Gordon's salaries. I imagine Gordon will get a raise after his season.

When did Lenny's salary go from indentured servant to 6 figures? Was it when he got to his 4th or 5th MLS season? If you're valuable at that point, you get into a different MLS pay scale?

I believe Lenny came to us with one more el-cheapo year on his initial contract. That's probably one of the reasons we got him. Columbus knew he would cost a lot more. Last year he was excellent, playing through personal tragedy while Wondo was with the national team, and then took a legitimate personal leave for the second half of the season. His 5 goals and 3 assists in 14 games earned him the big raise. This article cites last November as the signing, so that would make it the end of his fourth season.

Thanks for posting that link! This makes me wonder even more if MLS has some kind of salary structure that takes you from $45k to $180k based on performance and transitioning from the 3- or is it 4-year internship. You know, a pay scale like in government salaries.

As far as I know there is no guarantee that you will make any more than $44K at the end of the four year contract. This is one of the reasons that the players wanted free-agency so badly. Marginal players could be held in limbo and forced to sign low contracts if they wanted to play.

Not sure why but I have this funny feeling the highlighted players will not be on the roster come 2013....That will save them around 1 million dollars so they can pay, Wondo, Lenny and Gordo between them all...

that would be one hell of a house cleaning......i dont think we cut loose all those guys. Just taking Corrales, Ward, Stephenson, and Gjersten off the books frees up a ton of cap space, so did cutting loose Moreno. I think we are one of the most salary cap comfortable teams in the league i think we could keep a lot of those cats.

Yeah but I forgot to include Simon Dawkins. Right now they are getting away with paying him only $50k but I don't know how long his loan deal will last or how long the Spurs will keep paying him . If I were them, I know I wouldn't unless they have intentions of using him but if they won't in January, they never will. If he comes back to the Quakes, I'm sure he will command a Moreno like salary.
