Freeing maneuvers and quick vision in the midfield. Great determination as well.

You don't want your center backs fouling that far out. And Renard was watching that ball arcing over her head the whole way. She wouldn't have gotten to it had the keeper not come out.

We may not even get by Canada. We're not allowed to use our "illegal tactics" anymore.

59' 0-2 #10 Abily(?) rolls a diagonal in-ball from midfield wide right through box top right. #11 Delie is just impeded centerward enough by #6 Sakaguchi to be unable to pounce. Iwashimizu comes out and slides it over.

60' 0-2 France right corner, to 6-top right post. Flicked to 7m left post, #4 Georges flicks it out to #7 Franco (all up like there's no tomorrow). Franco (RB!!) settles at 9m mid-left, shoots hard left foot as #7 Ogimi (a FW defending in her own box!!) slides diagonally and sticks a foot in. Franco kicks her own left shin hard into Ogimi's foot edge. Both go down, stoppage.

61' 0-2 Ogimi waves off the stretcher and limps into touch.

63' 0-2 Delie(?) holds and spins at box top 6-right. Squares to open Necib at box top center. Necib shoots with correct tempo, but scoops it high over.

64' 0-2 France free kick from 27m wide right. Curled to 6-top center, headed back out. #9 Le Sommer was open at the far post, but the cross died short ...

66' 0-2 France free kick from the left, nothing. Japan possess, chip down the right, lose it. France has dialed their motors up into the frantic range ... (which suits Japan just fine)

Or as they call it in France, a "Royale Lloyd with cheese." Pulp Fiction...anyone...

They need to make a sub for Delie, she hasn't done anything in this game.

Have the French ever won anything? Necib almost got it but didn't make it.

Huh? The first sub here was only trivially earlier than GB's first in the quarterfinal.
    Abily in: 57th minute
    Williams in: 63rd minute

Sounds like France are taking a lot of shots. Is it one of those days or just a matter of time before one flies in?

67' 0-2 France try another quick sequence from the right, to Necib at 27m center. She insteps it to Delie cutting toward box top arc right. Delie tries a running flick volley, curls high right.

68' 0-2 #11 Ohno enters through box top left, France clear.
69' 0-2 France long hard shot, Fukumoto dives and catches.

71' 0-2 #9 Le Sommer drills a low pass from 20m box right to 10m center. #14 Necib perfectly stops ball, blasts low right post. Fukumoto dives horizontal and catches it on the line. She stops PKs too --

Although they have talent, one might argue they were barely relevant until recently and greatly overshadowed by other European teams.

I feel like France has a goal in them. But Japan just isn't giving them enough quality opportunities to concede two. Disciplined defense that stays calm under duress.

yes, true, but then she waited till 80+ to make another offensive sub. At least the French have already made two

More of a bunt than a blast. Necib had two golden chances in 5 minutes and didn't finish either one.

Nice goal to make it 2-1. Japan only had about 5 players in the box at the time.

71' 0-2 Japan subs in (1 of 3) #7 Kozue Ando for #11 Shinobu Ohno.
74' 0-2 Japan subs in (2 of 3) #14 Asuna Tanaka for #6 Mizuho Sakaguchi.

75' 0-2 France raid down box left, Bompastor's cross headed clear.
76' 1-2 #11 Delie to 20m box right, rolls it down the right for #12 Thomis. To 3m mid-right, Thomis maybe remembers the same configuration when Delie did the wrong thing from there. Thomis correctly backpasses to 13m center, wide-open #9 Le Sommer touches and blasts into 1/3 right half-high.

Anybody got a good non-NBC feed? Mine's become pretty uncooperative. Thanks.
