I did about 11-12 hours by bus in Brasil once, actually wasn't that bad. But I guess it all depends on the company. Cometa was great everytime I've ridden with them.
I haven't taken a bus in Brasil since forever. I was too young to remember the company (7-8ish). It was a 8-9 hour overnight ride from RJ to ES.
I took buses various team to travel within SP state. It's a breeze although my trips were 3 hours max. One time I took a bus from SP to Juiz de Fora and that was a different experience. Going up and down a mountain on a single lane road with the bus doing overtaking of trucks with a double line and another truck/bus coming the other way got me worried a bit. The shoulder was used many times. I will probably fly to Fortaleza but I might take a bus to Natal to check it out. Hope you got some tickets.
My dad recently did an executive class bus from Brasilia to BH for the Brazil x Uruguay semis during the Confeds. He said it was fine. I'm a bit afraid of a 16 hour bus ride though -- especially between cities in Nordeste. We'll see how desperate I get!
Yeah ... Nordeste is the scary unknown part. Been to Salvador only once for Carnaval, forgot to take my neck chain out and within 10 mins some dude swiped.
Yeah I've never been to Nordeste...ever. It's pretty much the only region that I havent visited yet in Brazil - so I'm happy I'll be able to visit Fortaleza, Salvador, and Natal. And my gold chain is definitely staying at home in the US.

I got that through a BigSoccer user -- it's apparently an Adidas sponsorship ticket - he had a bunch of other tickets. The stuff is still processing and I havent paid him yet - hopefully that works out. The knock-out games I got through first come first served.
Let me know if you are not interested in any tickets and I will take them off your hands, preferably 3 tickets for me, my wife and my son.
Most of the tickets I got are in single tickets or in pairs. There's a slight possibility that I may not go to the Rio 2nd round game, but we'll see. However, I'm now paranoid as I used my friend's card to make the payment on my account. That's apparently not allowed and FIFA may cancel the tickets, despite the fact that the charges have already gone through and FIFA has its money. Now, I need to see how I can pick up the tickets -- hopefully it's a machine and I can just swipe my friend's card and everything will be fine. Needless to say, this whole process is extremely frustrating.
I would love to take the Rio second round tickets off your hands even if it is just a pair as I am going to be in Rio for the entire WC. Let me know.
For whatever reason I thought Fortaleza wasn't as violent as Salvador or Recife. Apparently not only it's more violent, it's considered the 7th most violent in the world. So watch out if you're going to Fortaleza.
I'm sure there are bad areas like anywhere. Here in Chicago there is a person shot every day, IN THE SOUTH SIDE. And CELITO you lucky MFSOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the hell did you win the FIFA lotto GODDAMNIT!! You screwed up and depressed my whole day. I got nothing, nada, and I am pissed off!
It wasn't a lottery today. It was First Come First Serve. Did you try to log in in the morning ? I learned my lesson from the last phase. As soon as the clock hits 6am-est, it will most likely put you in virtual queue. Instead of just waiting with for the page to refresh itself (I think every 10 secs), you can increase your odds of getting in by hitting refresh as fast as you can. Still took me around 8 mins to get in today but I hear a lot of people still didn't get in with this method. Last time it took 30 mins (I only started refreshing around 25m in) and everything was gone.
I got my popcorn ready for the stuff off the field. I just want to see how far the government will go with the neighborhood lock downs/invasions. I'm surprised the international media has been so quiet in the build up.
I'm watching brazil x argentina at. 1990 WC, how the hell did this argentina team make it to the finals? I mean they are bad! Its on univision, that's why I'm watching. Rocha, galvao, gomes on the backline.
The Brazil 1990 team was great -- obviously, not the prettiest, but with many players reaching their peak. Although they didn't play all that well in that tournament, unlike in 1994, where I'd say Brazil played pretty well. Argentina pretty much limped through the 90 tournament -- they only scored 2 goals in the knock-out stage. Unreal!
