I wouldn't discount Louisville out yet, they did reach the group of 16 last NCAA tournament and beat some good teams along the way. They have most of their squad back as well this year. This year they have been playing very inconsistent and have allowed many more goals then they did last year. Last years team were known for their stingy defense, they didn't score many goals. So its no surprise that an uptick in goals allowed has hampered their record. Still I think they will make it into the Big East tournament and we'll see how they will do there. They are currently a bubble team right now, so they still need those key wins over ranked teams to make some headway in the RPI department.

On the topic of Syracuse, I have been looking at them as well and maybe your right, they do have a decent conference record and should be in the Big East playoffs easily. They still need alot of help to make it through. Beating Rutgers isn't really looking good for them right now with Rutgers collapse of their conference season. UConn is sitting outside of the bubble at the moment but that draw against Louisville could be a good result for Syracuse. They need some more results over ranked teams. A result against Marquette or Georgetown would help them out big time.

And lastly Rutgers. Rutgers is STILL in the picture. I know people think they have no chance now with them tanking their season, but a win over Notre Dame or Louisville, no matter how slim the odds are, would dramatically change their season around. You have to understand, the win over Ohio State is helping them out in a huge way for their RPI. Ohio State has beaten some heavy hitters already this season. If Rutgers ends their season with a lossing record, their RPI might still be good enough to get them into the NCAA tournament, which of course they won't if they have a lossing record. But I am pointing out how important that win is for Rutgers and because its so important, I have to keep tracking them.

Thanks those tables look very intresting. The big surprise to me is the drop of the Big12 to where they are now. They were a top 3 conference last year. But without teams like Texas A&M and Missouri I guess that was to be expected. The SEC and BIG10 are much closer then I thought as with your reasoning previously, I still believe the BIG10 will slowly lose ground as the playoffs come around. Once the SEC playoffs start, I expect to see a ton of movement if we don't see more before then.

    Friday Oct. 5 2012 upsets.

    ACC: (11)Wake Forest 2-1 (8)Virginia
    Big12: Texas 1-0 (33) Oklahoma State
    Big10: Nebraska 3-2 (35)Wisconisn
    SEC: Georgia 2-0 (36)Old Miss.
Pac12: Arizona State 1-0 win vs (39)Washington State
    A10: Butler 3-2 (46)Dayton

Oklahoma State losses to another team that they should be beating, they should still be fine to make the Big12 playoffs but with only Memphis as their only quality result, they need to get results, not give them away. For there part Texas continues their winning form and adds a good result. With Denver and Dayton and now OSU, they are turning their season around. If they continue to stay on form, they now look to have a good shot at getting an at large bid.

Arizona State after starting 3 losses out of 4 matches has turned it around as well and evened their record up. Wins over Pepperdine and now Washington State will help their RPI plus Stanford and UCLA has already been played. ASU's schedule looks much more easier now and the possibility of an at large bid is in reach if they can continue to get results.

    Big East update.

(14)Georgetown, (21)Notre Dame, (23)Marquette, (42)Louisville, Rutgers and South Florida all won. UConn is the only team on the list that lost. Syracuse joins the watch list with their impressive start to their conference season. Both Syracuse and South Florida must get into the Big East playoffs to help improve their RPI. Without more quality results, both will have problems getting an at large bid.

(14)Georgetown (Overall 12-1-1 Conference 6-0) 1-0 win vs Cincinnati. Considering how badly Georgetown was thrashing teams previously, Cincinnati was impressive in keeping it to a one score game and holding the potent Georgetown attack at bay. Despite all the scoring Georgetown is doing, there are still questions whether Georgetown can do it against a stronger opponent. Those questions should get answered in the next few games with (42)Louisville next and (21)Notre Dame after. Leading Scorers: M-Daphne Corboz 14 goals (34pts) F-Kaitlin Brenn 9 goals (25pts) (Georgetown: 40 goals total)

(21)Notre Dame (Overall 10-3-1 Conference 6-0) 5-1 win vs Seton Hall. With 34 goals scored so far, you would think there would be 1 or 2 target strikers leading the scoring, not so with Notre Dame. They have 12 different players that have scored for Notre Dame. You can take pleasure in watching a young side gel and become a unit together, but its even more rewarding when you can see them play unselfishly. Leading Scorers: F-Crystal Thomas 6 goals (13pts) M-Elizabeth Tucker 5 goals (13pts) (Notre Dame: 34 goals total)

(23)Marquette (Overall 10-2-1 Conference 6-0) 5-0 win vs Providence. They have 4 unranked opponents left on their schedule. Marquette should have an easy ride to the Big East playoffs. Questions remain on whether they can match up against a top ranked side with their losses to Duke and North Carolina. Those questions should be answered when the playoffs roll around. Marquette like Notre Dame gets balanced scoring from their forwards down to the midfielders. Leading Scorers: M-Meagan Kelly 6 goals (20pts) M-Katie Reigle 5 goals (15pts) (Marquette: 37 goals total)

(42)Louisville (Overall 8-3-2 Conference 3-2-2) 1-0 win vs Villanova. Louisville still needs more quality results to help them make it to the big dance. The result over Purdue is holding up and UNC Greensboro has recovered from all those early losses and evened their record. But these won't be enough. They have (14)Georgetown next and Rutgers after. They have some chances to get those results they need to lock up a spot in the NCAA tournament. Leading Scorers: M-Angelika Uremovich 9 goals (20pts) M-Charlyn Corral 4 goals (14pts) (Louisville: 28 goals total)

Rutgers (Overall 9-6 Conference 2-5) 1-0 OT win vs Depaul. They needed a win, any win to keep their dismal Big East season alive. To add an exclaimation point, the lone goal was scored by Jonelle Filigno. Rutgers cannot seem to find any support scoring to help Filigno out, other then Filigno they have no one with more then one goal on their squad. 60% of the goals have been scored by Filigno which really shows how skewed the scoring is for Rutgers. Rutgers either wins or loses with Filigno and teams are realizing this when you see as many as 3 defenders marking Filigno out of the game. Add to Rutgers problems, they have (21)Notre Dame next and then (42)Louisville with 2 other unranked teams. They in essence need to win 3 of the 4 games to make it into the Big East playoffs. Leading Scorers: F-Jonelle Filigno 10 goals (22pts) F-Maria Gerew 1 goal (4pts) (Rutgers: 16 goals total)

Connecticut (Overall 7-6-1 Conference 3-3) 1-0 loss vs South Florida. With their only quality result being a draw with Santa Clara. They're chances of getting an at large bid is looking slim. Those opportunities to get results that will push UConn into the NCAA tournament haven't materialized. With the situation desperate they have (23)Marquette next on their schedule. They really need a result here to help their slim at bid hopes. Leading Scorers: F-Danielle Schulmann 9 goals (25pts) F-Andrea Plucenik 5 goals (11pts) (Connecticut: 30 goals total)

South Florida (Overall 7-4-2 Conference 3-1-2) 1-0 win vs Connecticut. The key result for USF was their win over Miami. The problem for them is Miami is only 1 game over .500 and they have a very tough schedule ahead of them. Miami may have the key wins, but its quite possible they will be below .500 by the end of their league season. USF's best chance to get another key result is their last game where they face off againt (23)Marquette. Leading Scorers: F-Sharla Passariello 7 goals (17pts) M-Olivia Chance 3 goals (8pts) (South Florida: 18 goals total)

Syracuse (Overall 8-4-2 Conference 5-1-1) Last win 2-0 vs Pittsburgh. Syracuse joins the watch list with their stellar conference season record. They should easily make it into the Big East playoffs. What is not so certain is their placement in the NCAA tournament. They like USF need more quality results to help their RPI. They have a win over Rutgers, but with their nose dive down the rankings, this result isn't looking so solid. Their draw against Louisville is also questionable with Louisville needing help as well to make it into the NCAA tournament. With (23)Marquette on their schedule, they have a chance to get that result before they go into the playoffs. Syracuse like USF need to help their cause by getting these key results if they want to be in the NCAA tournament. Leading Scorers: M-Alyscia Mottershead 4 goals (10pts) F-Jenna Rickman 2 goals (10pts) (Syracuse: 21 goals total)

    SEC update.

(6)Texas A&M, (13)Florida, (18)Missouri, (22)Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn all won. (36)Old Miss, (37)Kentucky, (47)Alabama, LSU and Arkansas all lost. South Carolina with their loss to Tennessee gets dropped from the watch list. South Carolina played Tennessee tough and had several good chances to score, but their lack of bite at forward has really cost them this season.

(6)Texas A&M (Overall 12-1-1 Conference 6-0-1) 5-0 win vs (47)Alabama. Their next game has seeding implications for the Aggies with their next game against (13)Florida. A win and Aggies can leapfrog over Penn State for the last top seed. Any other result could seriously damage their hopes for a top seed. This is a key game for the Aggies, if they want to be taken seriously then they need to show the nation that they want that top seed. Leading Scorers: F-Annie Kunz 8 goals (17pts) M-Kelley Monogue 7 goals (14pts) (Texas A&M: 32 goals total)

(13)Florida (Overall 9-3-1 Conference 6-1) 2-0 win vs LSU. If this coming up game is important for Texas A&M for a potential top seed, then this is also important for the Gators in getting themselves a national seed. Either way, this game will be a very important contest and may even dictate who will win the SEC title in the end. Leading Scorers: M-Havana Solaum 5 goals (13pts) M-Mckenzie Barney 4 goals (9pts) (Florida: 28 goals total)

(18)Missouri (Overall 11-2 Conference 6-1) 2-1 OT win vs (37)Kentucky. Another win over a ranked team. They have been very impressive this season, if it wasn't for how good Texas A&M is playing, we would be talking about Missouri. Still, the Mizzou Tigers have put themselves in a good position for a high seed in the NCAA tournament. They just need to keep playing like this. Leading Scorers: F-Alyssa Diggs 6 goals (12pts) M-Abi Raymer 5 goals (12pts) (Missouri: 27 goals total)

(22)Tennessee (Overall 9-3-2 Conference 4-2-1) 1-0 win vs South Carolina. Overall Tennessee is in good position to advance to the SEC playoffs, they have an outside chance of taking the SEC title, but unless there is a stumble from the other 3 top teams in the SEC, their chances are slim. Leading Scorers: F-Iyana Moore 4 goals (11pts) M-Caroline Brown 3 goals (11pts) (Tennessee: 25 goals total)

(36)Mississippi (Overall 9-5 Conference 2-5) 2-0 loss vs Georgia. The Rebels SEC season is rapidly turning into a nightmare with them now sitting near the bottom of the SEC conference standings. If Old Miss doesn't turn their season around quickly, they could miss the SEC playoffs and probably any hope of getting an at large bid. Leading Scorers: F-Rafaelle Sousa 10 goals (24pts) M-Mandy McCalla 10 goals (23pts) (Mississippi: 33 goals total)

(37)Kentucky (Overall 8-4-1 Conference 3-3-1) 2-1 OT loss vs (18)Missouri. A tough loss considering this is now their second straight loss. Their road to the playoffs should get alot easier now with only (36)Old Miss who is next and (22)Tennessee as the only ranked teams left on their schedule. Any hope for a national seed though has taken a large hit. They would need to do well in the SEC playoffs to reinvigorate their hopes for a seed. Leading Scorers: D-Arin Gilliland 4 goals (12pts) M-Courtney Raetzman 4 goals (12pts) (Kentucky: 23 goals total)

(47)Alabama (Overall 7-4-2 Conference 2-3-2) 5-0 loss vs Texas A&M. Not much of a surprise that they would lose to Texas A&M, but the score was more lopsided then was expected. Alabama has a rough road ahead of them. They still have (13)Florida and (18)Missouri still on their schedule. They need wins if they want to qualify for the SEC playoffs. Leading Scorers: F-Katie Bourgeois 7 goals (16pts) M-Molly Atherton 6 goals (14pts) (Alabama: 29 goals total)

LSU (Overall 5-5-4 Conference 1-4-2) 2-0 loss vs (13)Florida. They have Vanderbilt and South Carolina next. They need wins here if they have any hope of making the SEC playoffs since they still have (18)Missouri, (22)Tennessee and (36)Old Miss on their schedule. Leading Scorers: F-Fernanda Pina 2 goals (7pts) F-Colby Maffei 2 goals (6pts) (LSU: 15 goals total)

Georgia (Overall 6-6-2 Conference 2-3-2) 2-0 win vs (36)Old Miss. With Old Miss sliding down the SEC standings, this may not be a great quality result for Georgia. With no strong result and several middling ones, Georgia has alot of work to do to improve their RPI. Leading Scorers: F-Meghan Gibbons 4 goals (8pts) M-Bella Hartley 4 goals (8pts) (Georgia: 19 goals total)

Auburn (Overall 8-6 Conference 4-3) 2-0 win vs Mississippi State. They have (22)Tennessee up next, although their season has been uneven, their conference record should be good enough to qualify for the SEC playoffs. Leading Scorers: F-Tatiana Coleman 7 goals (15pts) F-Tori Ball 4 goals (8pts) (Auburn: 21 goals total)

Arkansas (Overall 5-7-1 Conference 2-4-1) 3-2 OT loss vs Vanderbilt. Just when you thought Arkansas is turning their season around, they lose to a team they shouldn't. They have (47)Alabama next then (6)Texas A&M and later still (18)Missouri. Arkansas can't afford to flub any more games and its crutial they now get results. Leading Scorer: F-Lindsey Mayo 3 goals (6pts) F-Allie Chandler 2 goals (5pts) (Arkansas: 12 goals total)

The A&M-Florida game was highly entertaining. I think the refs had a tough day, no way that first goal Florida scored should have been waved off, if a&m's goal was allowed to stand. But all the goals came off set pieces, the one Leon ripped was a thing of beauty. Gators showed me a lot today winning on the road there.

Wild weekend in the Big East. The "Big 3" of Marquette, Notre Dame, and Georgetown all tied yesterday. And all of those ties came to teams lower in the RPI. Will be interesting to see how this affected the RPIs of these teams on the next report. My guess is it may have an effect but it will be minimal.

Louisville helped their cause with a win against Villanova and a tie against Georgetown. The game was on CBS Sports Network. The goals scored by Corboz and Corral were sensational strikes. They are tied in points with Villanova and Villanova has a game in hand, but 'Nova has to finish with Notre Dame and Georgetown so Louisville could jump them for the #3 seed in the National Division.
Syracuse won against Pitt to stand at 5-1-1. They have a difficult weekend coming up at USF and at Marquette. Currently the #2 seed in the American Division but that could change by the end of this week.
South Florida got outplayed by UConn but scored a set piece late in the game for the win. They scored late against Providence as well. They have to be feeling good after picking up to two road 1-0 victories. My guess is the game against Syracuse will determine who the #2 and #3 seeds are for the Big East tournament. #2 will host the quarterfinal, #3 will have to travel.
UConn and Providence didn't help their cause much as far as rising in the Big East goes, although the Marquette tie will look good for UConn.
Rutgers got outplayed but got a good tie result against Notre Dame. Good game against Louisville coming up, and should then get 2 wins against Cincinnati and Seton Hall. They could jump DePaul to at least make the Big East tournament.

Only two games left each for UConn, Providence, and (mercifully) Pitt. Everyone else has 3 matches left during these next 2 weekends so it should be an exciting finish.

Here are my thoughts for player of the year awards:
Offensive player: Daphne Corboz, Georgetown. 11 goals in 7 conference games.
Defensive player: Ally Miller, Marquette. Having another solid year anchoring the backline for Marquette.
Midfielder: Charlyn Corral, Louisville. The Mexican international has been a huge get for Louisville. Probably one of the most technical players in the Big East.
Goalkeeper: Wide open. Could be Emma Newins from Georgetown, as she has allowed only 1 goal. But she only has made 15 saves in 7 games, so not much to do. Also could be Amanda Engel from Marquette, but same argument as she has only let in 2 goals yet has only had to make 21 saves. The others in the discussion are Christiane Endler from USF and Brittany Anghel from Syracuse.
Coach of the Year: My picks are either Dave Nolan from Georgetown or Phil Wheddon from Syracuse. Many people thought this was going to be a rebuilding year for Georgetown based on the graduation of Ingrid Wells and others, but they have not lost a step. Phil Wheddon has brought this Syracuse program back from the demise under Pat Farmer and they are getting results and deserved recognition. You could easily make a case for Markus Roeders at Marquette and Randy Waldrum at Notre Dame but expectations were high for these two programs any way.

    Disappointments:
Christine Exeter, Louisville. 2011 Offensive Player of the Year. Has only scored 1 goal this year.
Jonelle Fligno, Rutgers. Only has 3 goals, 2 of which were PKs. Not as much her fault as it is not having much support around her.
Teams: Based on preseason expectations you would have to say UConn and Rutgers are the teams that have not lived up to their billing.

Let's see how this all plays out these next 2 weeks, should be a great finish to set up the Big East tournament.

Kudos to Dave Nolan. He has done so much for Georgetown consistently, but for a team like Syracuse to come around like they have, you have to give Phil Wheddon credit.

Both Louisville and Rutgers helped their at large bid hopes this week. Marquette becomes the hunted as South Florida and Syracuse look to get results over them to improve their RPI.

Very good list on the players of the year. Without a doubt Daphne Corboz will nab the offensive player of the year. Georgetown's talisman has had a VERY impressive showing this year now that she is out of the Ingrid Wells shadow. I am one of those that believed that this year would be a rebuilding year for Georgetown with their graduations. But I was so wrong on that regard, instead of rebuilding, they reloaded and they are playing even better then last year. Dave Nolan looks to be a lock for coach of the year with how well Georgetown is playing considering Georgetown missed the NCAA tournament last year with Ingrid Wells on the roster.

Looking at the player of the year honors, I would think Crystal Thomas of Notre Dame will pick up rookie of year nod, though I would actually perfer to nominate her teammate Katie Naughton who is their freshman centerback. She almost never comes off the field and quite frequently is Notre Dame's last line of defense. She is tasked with defending the best striker for the oppossing team and can play the ball with either feet. She has everything you would want out of a centerback and is very heady with the ball at her feet. She is my pick, but with 8 goals already for Crystal, Katie may be overlooked by her teammate.

I'm not so disappointed with Jonelle Filigno's season. Considering the complete lack of secondary scoring on Rutgers, she still has had an impressive season with the pressure she is under. She knows she is the lone striker that is scoring for Rutgers and has to deal with 2 or 3 defenders marking her every game. You would think a team can take advantage of that and a striker would step forward and score for Rutgers, but that hasn't happenned.

    Latest RPI report update today:
    23 Notre Dame
    28 Georgetown
    35 Louisville
    36 Marquette
    46 Rutgers
    72 South Florida
    91 Syracuse

Not much of an effect on Notre Dame and Georgetown from their ties. Louisville is now in decent shape for an at-large bid with their tie with Georgetown as well with Marquette. Rutgers can somehow still make it but they need a really strong finish and if they don't make the Big East tournament that will really lessen their chances. USF and Syracuse need strong finishes and probably at least a run to the Big East tournament final to have any chance.

    Big East key match results.

    (42)Louisville (5th goal Charlyn Corral) 1-1 (14)Georgetown (15th Daphne Corboz)
    Rutgers (2nd Shannon Woeller, 1st Stephanie Sholtz) 2-2 (21)Notre Dame (7th, 8th Crystal Thomas)
    Connecticut (4th Jennifer Skogerboe) 1-1 (23)Marquette (3rd Mary Luba)
South Florida (4th Olivia Chance) 1-0 Providence

(14)Georgetown (Overall 12-1-2 Conference 6-0-1) 1-1 draw vs (42)Louisville. With Louisville outshooting Georgetown 20-10, this draw looks alittle better on paper with Louisville getting some very good chances in the game. (21)Notre Dame is up next and will provide a stiff challenge to Georgetown, a result here will go a long way to helping Georgetown's hopes for a national seed.

(21)Notre Dame (Overall 10-3-2 Conference 6-0-1) 2-2 draw vs Rutgers. This has to be a disappointing result for Notre Dame since they had the run of play against Rutgers. With the last goal conceded on a goalkeeping error. Notre Dame has had a solid conference season so far with (14)Georgetown next, its a good opportunity to test the young side and see how far they've come this season. A win, Notre Dame would join the conversation of a possible national seed.

(23)Marquette (Overall 10-2-2 Conference 6-0-1) 1-1 draw vs Connecticut. This helps UConn in a big way, but this result is very disappointing for Marquette. Marquette dominated UConn with 27 shots, 11 on frame. They have an easy match against St.John next, but after that they have 2 hungry sides looking to take a bite out of Marquette. Both Syracuse and South Florida need results over Marquette if they want to improve their RPI. These games can't be over looked or under estimated by the Golden Eagles.

(42)Louisville (Overall 8-3-3 Conference 3-2-3) 1-1 draw vs (14)Georgetown. Louisville controlled much of the run of play with several good chances to score the go ahead goal. Still this is a very good result for Louisville. Another good result that they needed to help improve their lagging RPI. Their next game is against Rutgers, with Rutgers now almost assured an at large bid, a result over Rutgers would go a long way to get them a bid as well.

Rutgers (Overall 9-6-1 Conference 2-5-1) 2-2 draw vs Notre Dame. This draw will probably be enough for Rutgers to seal up an at large bid. Even if they were to somehow to lose their next 3 games, they should still get into the NCAA tournament. Rutgers also seem to have to switched up their style of play. They are long balling far more then they used too, with them focusing on getting the ball to Filigno thereby freeing her from the heavy marking she has to endure. Either way it does seem to be creating more room for the forwards up top for Rutgers.

Connecticut (Overall 7-6-2 Conference 3-3-1) 1-1 draw vs (23)Marquette. Very much needed result for the Huskies. They only had a draw with Santa Clara as their best result, this one will help. UConn still needs to keep plugging away and hopefully when the playoffs arrive, they can make some noise by upsetting some teams.

South Florida (Overall 8-4-2 Conference 4-1-2) 1-0 win vs Providence. A good win to help lock up their place for the Big East playoffs. Next game will be against Syracuse, a good match with two potential bubble teams for the NCAA tournament. A result either way would help both teams out.

Syracuse (Overall 8-4-2 Conference 5-1-1) Idle for today. Next two games will show whether Syracuse has any serious ambitions for an at large bid. South Florida a team like Syracuse looking to move up the RPI standings, both teams need results and this game can be a bellweather to who gets an at large bid. (23)Marquette who is next is a key match and a result against the Golden Eagles will give a big boost to their at large bid hopes.

    Big East standings.

    American Division:
    Marquette (6-0-1) 19pts
    Syracuse (5-1-1) 16pts
    South Florida (4-1-2) 14pts
    Connecticut (3-3-1) 10 pts
    Providence (3-5) 9pts
    _________________
    St.John's (2-4-1) 7pts
    Pittsburgh (0-6-2) 2pts

    National Division:
    Georgetown (6-0-1) 19pts
    Notre Dame (6-0-1) 19pts
    Villanova (4-3) 12 pts
    Louisville (3-2-3) 12 pts
    Depaul (3-4) 9 pts
    __________________
    Rutgers (2-5-1) 7pts

    SEC key match results.

    (13)Florida (2nd Jo Dragotta, 3rd Adriana Leon) 2-1 (6)Texas A&M (4th Shea Groom)
(18)Missouri (6th Abi Raymer, 6th Taiwo Adeshigbin) 2-0 Mississippi State
    (36)Old Miss (2nd Sara Coleman, 6th Olivia Harrison) 2-0 (37)Kentucky
    (22)Tennessee (4th Kylie Bono) 1-0 Auburn
Arkansas (3rd Allie Chandler, 1st Jerianne Okoro, 1st Andrea Carlson) 3-1 (42)Alabama (2nd Merel Van Dongen)
LSU (1st Haley Emerson) 1-0 OT Vanderbilt
South Carolina (2nd Gabrielle Gilbert) 1-0 Georgia

(6)Texas A&M (Overall 12-2-1, Conference 6-1-1) 2-1 loss vs (13)Florida. A loss that will probably snuff out any hope for a top seed with both Penn State and BYU looking to fight for the last spot now. Despite this set back, the Aggies look good to take a high seed with Arkansas and Vanderbilt next, the SEC title is still up for grabs so they need to focus on whats coming up and keep pushing for wins.

(13)Florida (Overall 10-3-1 Conference 7-1) 2-1 win vs (6)Texas A&M. Huge win for Florida, can overstate how big this will be down the road for the Gators. Florida is probably out of the picture for a top seed, but they did lock up a national seed with this win. Add that they now have solid control for the SEC title race and things are looking up for the Gators. A top seed for the SEC playoffs would help Florida extend their post season and maybe give them a higher seed as well.

(18)Missouri (Overall 12-2 Conference 7-1) 2-0 win vs Mississippi State. With the Aggies loss to Florida, the Mizzou Tigers have a key opportunity when they take on (13)Florida next. With another massive clash set to be played with the SEC title and a potential high national seed at stake.

(22)Tennessee (Overall 10-3-2 Conference 5-2-1) 1-0 win vs Auburn. The lady Vols are just outside the picture when it comes to the SEC title race. With the Aggies loss and now Florida and Missouri battling it out next. They can close the gap. Tennessee has some big matches coming up with (6)Texas A&M being the key one. If Tennessee can stay in the picture, they could disturb the top order of the SEC and make some noise.

(36)Mississippi (Overall 10-5 Conference 3-5) 2-0 win vs (37)Kentucky. Big win for the Rebels. Old Miss needs quaility results and they got one with this win. More importantly it moves them out of the bottom of the SEC standings and stops their recent slide. Add to all this, their schedule is beginning to clear up with only (22)Tennessee as their only ranked opponent on their schedule. If Old Miss can win most of these matches, they should get into the SEC playoffs easily.

(37)Kentucky (Overall 8-5-1 Conference 3-4-1) 2-0 loss vs (36)Old Miss. 3 straight losses in a row is turning the Wildcats SEC season around in a hurry after their good results over Florida and Texas A&M. It won't get any easier for Kentucky with (22)Tennessee next up. The Wildcats need to staunch the bleeding or their status as a lock team for the NCAA tournament will disappear.

(42)Alabama (Overall 7-5-2 Conference 2-4-2) 3-1 loss vs Arkansas. Second straight loss and to a team that they should beat. With (13)Florida and (18)Missouri still on their schedule, they are running out of chances to get wins to move them up the SEC standings. Mississippi State is next and realistically they should beat the Bulldogs, they have not shown they can beat a quality side.

LSU (Overall 6-5-4 Conference 2-4-2) 1-0 OT win vs Vanderbilt. A desperately needed win, LSU is playing with fire with these close results. They are still near the bottom of the SEC standings, so they need more wins if they want to quiality for the playoffs. With 3 ranked teams (18)Missouri, (22)Tennessee and (36)Old Miss out of the 5 games left, LSU is going to have to get some key results if they want to be in the SEC tournament.

Auburn (Overall 8-7 Conference 4-4) 1-0 loss vs (22)Tennessee. With the rest of their schedule looking much easier, they should get into the SEC playoffs with ease. What is not clear is if they have done enough to get themselves an at large bid. With wins over Texas Tech, Old Miss and maybe LSU, they still are looking shaky and will need to rack up more wins and hopefully make some progress in the SEC playoffs to get an at large bid.

Georgia (Overall 6-7-2 Conference 2-4-2) 1-0 loss vs South Carolina. The USC's defense stymied attack after attack from Georgia with only one good opportunity which was reflex saved by Sabrina D'Angelo. Georgia really needed this win, because like LSU they have a very tough schedule coming up with (6)Texas A&M, (22)Tennessee and (37)Kentucky. Georgia could quite concievably be under .500 by the time the SEC playoffs roll around.

Arkansas (Overall 6-7-1 Conference 3-4-1) 3-1 win vs (42)Alabama. A big win for the Razorbacks. They couldn't afford to drop 3 games below .500 and make it into the SEC playoffs let alone have a chance an at large bid. They have a rough schedule ahead of them with (6)Texas A&M next and then (18)Missouri later. With Auburn and LSU in there, this will be a tough road for Arkansas. If they want to get into the SEC playoffs, they need to beat some of these teams.

"Goalkeeper: Wide open. Could be Emma Newins from Georgetown, as she has allowed only 1 goal. But she only has made 15 saves in 7 games, so not much to do. Also could be Amanda Engel from Marquette, but same argument as she has only let in 2 goals yet has only had to make 21 saves. The others in the discussion are Christiane Endler from USF and Brittany Anghel from Syracuse."
For what it is worth I like seeing these goalkeepers with "less to do" because hopefully that is indicating that they are less like the old days of a big basketball player stopping shots, and more like leaders running the defense in a quality soccer match, coming off their lines. They are actually doing much more and playing at a higher level...This stat of shots saved being valued kind of bugs me. I wish it were more like "defensive plays" or something. Sounds like you have some good keepers here!!!

    Big East key match results.

    Oct.11: Pittsburgh (3rd, 4th Alex Charlesbois) 2-1 Connecticut (3rd Riley Houle)
    (15)Georgetown (6th Colleen Dinn, 16th Daphne Corboz) 2-0 (20)Notre Dame
    (22)Marquette (2nd Mady Vicker, 5th Taylor Madigan, 3rd Rachel Sloan) 3-0 St.John's
    (50)Rutgers (11th, 12th Jonelle Filigno, 1st Amy Pietrangelo) 3-0 (35)Louisville
South Florida (1st Kelly Campbell) 1-0 Syracuse

(15)Georgetown (Overall 13-1-2 Conference 7-0-1) 2-0 win vs (20)Notre Dame. A defining win for Georgetown. This win will help push Georgetown into the realm of possible national seed. They started out beating weaker opposition and as their rankings rose, questions were asked if they could take it to the next level and beat a top25 team. They answered that question today and more when they held a young but powerful offense of Notre Dame from scoring. They had several lucky breaks with 2 shots by Notre Dame hitting the crossbar and not going in. But you take those and this victory does give Georgetown a defining win they can hang their hat on.

(20)Notre Dame (Overall 10-4-2 Conference 6-1-1) 2-0 loss vs (15)Georgetown. Unlucky to have 2 shots hit the crossbar and a tough loss for Notre Dame. This loss does put things into perspective for Notre Dame. They may be out of the running for a national seed, but they do have a chance to improve their RPI going into the playoffs. Who knows what can happen then for Notre Dame but this season has been a pleasant surprise for the Baby Irish.

(22)Marquette (Overall 11-2-2 Conference 7-0-1) 3-0 win vs St.John's. A nice win for the Golden Eagles, probably won't do much for their RPI, but now they have two intresting games coming up with Syracuse and South Florida. Both need a defining win to help them get an at large bid with both looking at Marquette as that key result to get it.

(35)Louisville (Overall 8-4-3 Conference 3-3-3) 3-0 loss vs (50)Rutgers. A very disappointing loss. Considering how heavily marked Filigno normally is. Louisville allowed the Rutgers striker to run rampant over them. With an 18-7 shot advantage, 10 on frame. Rutgers thoroughly dominated Louisville with Filigno tearing into the backline and getting in on goal on one breakaway and broke through the backline in another. This Louisville defense is not the defense I remember from last year, and with most of the starting XI returning, I would of thought the defense would of been the same. Not so, Louisville's offense is much improved, but now they are shedding more goals. Not a good sign for a once stingy defense.

(50)Rutgers (Overall 10-6-1 Conference 3-5-1) 3-0 win vs (35)Louisville. Jonelle Filigno was on all 3 goals scored for Rutgers. Her pace and her striker mentality really showed through this game. Louisville seemed to forget that they needed to keep Filigno heavily marked and it cost them dearly. Filigno assisted on the first goal charging down the side and then passing into the box for Amy Pietrangelo's first goal, then Filigno did all the rest herself, scoring 2 unassisted goals by breaking through the Louisville backline and scoring one goal on a breakaway and another after she slipped past her marker to score on an open look. It does look like Rutgers have changed how they play now. They are directing alot of balls towards Filigno and allowing her to run under it. And it seems to be paying off for Rutgers. Jonelle Filigno had 5 shots on goal, all of them on frame. She doesn't waste shots and Rutgers knows this and its no wonder they are trying to feed her the ball whenever they can.

Connecticut (Overall 7-7-2 Conference 3-4-1) 2-1 loss vs Pittsburgh. A loss that is probably enough to sink any at large hopes. The only hope they have left is get into the Big East playoffs and then make a run to the finals and get the auto bid to get into the NCAA tournament. Very long odds but that is probably what the Huskies are going ot have to do now.

South Florida (Overall 9-4-2 Conference 5-1-2) 1-0 win vs Syracuse. A good win over another team looking to get into the Big East playoffs. USF won't face (22)Marquette this week, but next week that game could be critical for USF's hopes for an at large bid. They are already locked into the Big East playoffs, so results over Marquette and over any playoff team is very much needed for the Bulls.

Syracuse (Overall 8-5-2 Conference 5-2-1) 1-0 loss vs South Florida. A fairly bad loss for Syracuse, their RPI isn't healthy and now they have (22)Marquette up next. They need to pull off a heavy upset to improve their RPI. Right now even if they get a result over Marquette, they are probably going to need to win out the Big East playoffs and get the auto bid to get into the NCAA tournament with their RPI at where it is now.

    SEC key match results.

    (9)Texas A&M (8th, 9th Kelley Monogue, 3rd Meghan Streight) 3-1 Arkansas (4th Allie Chandler)
    (10)Florida (2nd Annie Speese, 2nd Jo Dragotta) 2-1 (13)Missouri (7th Taiwo Adeshigbin)
    Kentucky (4th Kelli Hubly) 1-0 (27)Tennessee
Old Miss (1st Jessica Hiskey) 1-0 Vanderbilt
Mississippi State (8th, 9th Elisabeth Sullivan, 2nd Halee Heltsley) 3-2 Alabama (2nd Lindsey Sillers, 6th Pia Rijsdijk)
Auburn (5th Tatiana Coleman) 1-0 Georgia
South Carolina (2nd Lani Smith, 1st Christa Neary) 2-1 LSU (2nd Jade Kovacevic)

Georgia gets dropped from the watch list after their loss to Auburn. With Kentucky next and Texas A&M and Tennessee and 2 games under .500, Georgia couldn't afford to drop games to teams they need to beat.

(9)Texas A&M (Overall 13-2-1 Conference 7-1-1) 3-1 win vs Arkansas. A good win after that disappointment from the Florida game. Lossing at home stings but lossing a chance at a top seed even more so. The Aggies really can't afford to let their guard down with (13)Missouri and (27)Tennessee on their schedule, but a strong kick to the SEC playoffs can solidify a good seed for the NCAA tournament.

(10)Florida (Overall 11-3-1 Conference 8-1) 2-1 win vs (13)Missouri. Another strong performance to back their huge win over Texas A&M. The Gators look to be in strong form going into the SEC playoffs and should be very dangerous going forward. Florida now has control of the SEC title race and should pick up the number one seed for the SEC tournament. A second seed for the NCAA Tournament is not so far out of the picture for the Gators if they keep this up.

(13)Missouri (Overall 12-3 Conference 7-2) 2-1 loss vs (10)Florida. A golden chance missed to seize control for a second seed in the NCAA tournament. They can still have another chance with Texas A&M coming up, but this probably won't be enough, they will need to do some damage in the SEC tournament if they want to push for that second seed.

(27)Tennessee (Overall 10-4-2 Conference 5-3-1) 1-0 loss vs Kentucky. Any dim hope for the SEC title goes out with this loss. They are in a good position for the SEC playoffs and an NCAA at large birth. So this was a setback, but not a large one.

Kentucky (Overall 9-5-1 Conference 4-4-1) 1-0 won vs Tennessee. After lossing 3 straight and damaging their SEC playoff hopes badly. They come back with another key quality win over a strong team. With wins over Florida, Tennessee and a draw with Texas A&M, they are in very solid position now and even helped their cause for the SEC playoffs with them sitting in 4th in their division.

Mississippi (Overall 11-5 Conference 4-5) 1-0 win vs Vanderbilt. Old Miss stays on track and gets some key points to keep them in the SEC playoff hunt. Their slate looks fairly easy with only (27)Tennessee as their only ranked team on their docket.

LSU (Overall 6-6-4 Conference 2-5-2) 2-1 loss vs South Carolina. USC thoroughly dominated LSU in this contest. Outshot 18-3 and with USC having 2 goals called back to offsides. The match could of easily been more ugly for the Tigers. LSU schedule is not going to ease up with (27)Tennessee, Old Miss and then (13)Missouri all in a row. This could potential be death valley for LSU's hopes for a SEC playoff and an at large bid.

Alabama (Overall 7-6-2 Conference 2-5-2) 3-2 loss vs Mississippi State. What could be worse then lossing a game? Lossing a game to a team that is at the bottom of the standings. This loss is going to wreck Alabama's RPI. Alabama has (13)Missouri next and then (10)Florida. If they don't get any result soon they won't be a factor for the SEC playoffs, and that will eliminate any hope for an at large bid for Alabama.

Auburn (Overall 9-7 Conference 5-4) 1-0 win vs Georgia. With no ranked teams left on their schedule, they have an easy ride to the playoffs. They need to get more quality results to help their RPI or they are going to need to win out the SEC playoffs and get the auto bid. Right now their only quality result is Texas Tech and maybe Old Miss, neither will be enough to help Auburn get an at large bid.

Arkansas (Overall 6-8-1 Conference 3-5-1) 3-1 loss vs (9)Texas A&M. Even though the Rzorbacks are 2 games under .500 and still have several tough teams left on their schedule. They remain on the watch list because they are actually in the playoffs right now. That is how weak their division is at the moment. They may not stay there on Sunday, but for now they still have several ways to improve their chances to get an at large bid.

I feel sorry for the teams still left to play Missouri. I thought this sport was soccer, not rugby. Horrid job by the ref last night, allowing them to get away with so many fouls. Just glad no one was hurt in that match, the reckless play the ref allowed to happen for the better part of the match was appalling. Sweet revenge though as the recipient of the most vicious foul scored the game winner for Florida.

Just looking for feedback...you are a senior on one of the weakest teams without a chance for the conference tourney. Would you start your seniors?

So is Rutgers in the Big East tournament? Are they in if they beat Seton Hall? If they do win, who do they play in the 1st round (they can't get a bye, right?). I can't figure out how the Big East tournament works in terms of qualifying (I suppose looking on the Big East website for an answer was unnecessarily hopeful).

Seems pretty clear on the website, you just have to know where to look. Top 5 from each division make the playoffs. http://www.bigeast.org/Sports/WomensSoccer/2012WomensSoccerChampionshipCentral.aspx

1 seeds are set as Georgetown and Marquette. USF, Syracuse, and ND have also clinched byes to the quarter finals. the final bye is still in play for Louisville, Villanova, and Rutgers. Looks like any of the team could still lock up the 4th and 5th spots for the American division. Only people currently eliminated appear to be Cincinnati and Seton Hall.

It's a bit of a mess in the Big East, as TCU's late switch out of the conference means four teams play eleven games, with the rest playing ten in the league. One of the divisions contains all of the teams with the extra game, which means you have to calculate points per game to determine the final standings...

...and if you're like me, your eyes are about to glaze over right now.

    Big East key match results.

    (15)Georgetown (2nd Vanessa Skrumbis) 1-0 OT Depaul
    (20)Notre Dame (5th Anna Gilbertson) 1-0 Villanova
    (22)Marquette (7th Taylor Madigan, 4th Rachel Brown) 2-0 Syracuse
    (35)Louisville (6th, 7th Charlyn Corral, 3rd Casey Whitfield) 3-0 Seton Hall
    (50)Rutgers (13th, 14th Jonelle Filigno, 1st Maura McLaughlin, 1st Tricia Dipaolo, 2nd Rachel Cole) 5-0 Cincinnati
South Florida (3rd Demi Stokes, 2nd Ana Paola Lopez) 2-0 St.John's

(15)Georgetown (Overall 14-1-2 Conference 8-0-1) 1-0 win OT Depaul. Considering Georgetown has shipped 43 goals, this 1-0 overtime result is a small surprise, but one has to consider Depaul has been very good defensively only allowing 16 goals total so far in their season. Villanova who is next for Georgetown could be another defensive match considering they have played the top teams in their division tough, beating Rutgers and keeping the score to a 1 score game against Notre Dame. Villanova shouldn't be underestimated.

(20)Notre Dame (Overall 11-4-2 Conference 7-1-1) 1-0 win vs Villanova. A positive result after their disappointing loss to Georgetown. Depaul is their last game and shouldn't be overlooked with Depaul keeping Georgetown off the scoreboard until the second overtime. They play a very defensive minded game so it should be another match where Notre Dame must break a defensive team down.

(22)Marquette (Overall 12-2-2 Conference 8-0-1) 2-0 win vs Syracuse. Last conference game for Marquette is South Florida. A side that could potential upset the Golden Eagles if they are not careful. USF plays a defensive game and does not score many goals themselves. Still, the Golden Eagles are playing at home and the Bulls have to travel. They should have the advantage here.

(35)Louisville (Overall 9-4-3 Conference 4-3-3) 3-0 win vs Seton Hall. A win they needed to solidify their playoff spot for the Big East tournament. After their surprising lack of form against Rutgers, this is a good return to it and hopefully will turn things for the positive for the Cardinals. Their last game is against Cincinnati and should be an easy result and hopefully solidify the 3 seed for the bye in the Big East tournament.

(50)Rutgers (Overall 11-6-1 Conference 4-5-1) 5-0 win vs Cincinnati. Their best goal tally in quite a while. They haven't scored this much all season long. Despite the onslaught of goals coming against Cincinnati who has been sheding goals all season long, the good news is 3 of the 5 goals came from other players other then Filigno who was rested after playing the first half. In fact Filigno probably would of had a 3rd since she takes all the PK goal attempts, but she was out in the second half and Shannon Woeller's attempt was saved.

South Florida (Overall 10-4-2 Conference 6-1-2) 2-0 win vs St.John's. South Florida's RPI would be so much better if some of the key teams they beat this season were doing better. Teams like Miami (ACC) who they were really relying on, and then there is Louisville who probably are now in the NCAA tournament. But that one result is simply not enough. They need that markee win and next game will bring it with (22)Marquette being the key match. A result will help USF immensely going into the Big East playoffs.

Syracuse (Overall 8-6-2 Conference 5-3-1) 2-0 loss vs (22)Marquette. A very disappointing loss. Syracuse's chances of making it into the NCAA tournament has now taken a downward spiral. The loss to USF and now to Marquette has put their season in serious doubt. They are still in good shape to make it into the Big East playoffs, but its very clear now that they now must win the auto bid for the conference if they want to be in the NCAA tournament. Its all in or bust now.

Connecticut (Overall 7-7-2 Conference 3-4-1) Idle for today.

    SEC key match results.

    (9)Texas A&M (9th, 10th Annie Kunz, 2nd Beth West, 1st Leigh Edwards) 4-0 Vanderbilt
    (10)Florida (4th, 5th Jo Dragotta, 4th Erika Tymrak, 5th Barney Mckenzie) 4-1 Mississippi State (6th Honeye Heydari)
    (13)Missouri (4th Dominique Richardson, 7th Alyssa Diggs) 2-1 Alabama (7th Pia Rijsdijk)
(27)Tennessee (4th Kylie Bono, 4th Hannah Wilkinson, 4th Amy Harrison) 3-2 OT LSU (3rd Fernanda Pina, 3rd Alex Arlitt)
(38)Old Miss (1st Samantha Sanders,11th Rafaelle Sousa) 2-1 South Carolina (1st Taylor Leach)
Arkansas (1st Sam Wolf) 1-0 Auburn
Kentucky (5th Arin Gilliland) 1-0 Georgia

Alabama, LSU and Arkansas all get dropped from the watch list. Arkansas may be premature since they have a good shot of making the SEC playoffs, but they are 1 game under .500 with Missouri next to play. They might go into the SEC playoffs under .500 which probably would kill any chance of them progressing. Both Alabama and LSU are at the bottom of the SEC standings and their chances of making the SEC playoffs are very slim with some very difficult teams on their schedule still.

(9)Texas A&M (Overall 14-2-1 Conference 8-1-1) 4-0 win vs Vanderbilt. Capping off a fairly easy weekend for the Aggies, their next 3 games will be a bit more challenging with (27)Tennessee next and (13)Missouri their last game. The Aggies still need to keep pushing for results over quality opponents if they want to ensure a high seed for themselves and these two teams will help.

(10)Florida (Overall 12-3-1 Conference 9-1) 4-1 win vs Mississippi State. With their win over Missouri on Friday, this weekend has all but sealed their top seed for the SEC tournament. Florida's form has been impressive with 36 goals spread out with 11 different players contributing. There isn't a number one scorer on the Gators squad, its all done by commitee and as Florida's season continues that might be one of their key strengths.

(13)Missouri (Overall 13-3 Conference 8-2) 2-1 win vs Alabama. A win to keep them in the top 3 of the SEC standings. Missouri doesn't have that markee win they can point too that Florida has, but they can get that win with their last match of the conference season when they face Texas A&M. Right now the SEC is playing off between the two powers that is Florida and Texas A&M, they can gain quite a bit of legitamacy if they can beat the Aggies.

(27)Tennessee (Overall 11-4-2 Conference 6-3-1) 3-2 OT win vs LSU. An up and down weekend for the Lady Vols. Even with the loss to Kentucky, they can take some solace that they fought and got the win over LSU. Points that Tennessee needs if they want to stay at the top half of the SEC standings. Their next game is against Texas A&M, a key barometer of where the Lady Vols stands. They beat Missouri, failed against Florida, but can they upset Texas A&M? A strong test for Tennessee that can answer some questions if they are ready to take on some of the top colleges of the nation.

(38)Mississippi (Overall 12-5 Conference 5-5) 2-1 win vs South Carolina. With just LSU, (27)Tennessee and Mississippi State left, Old Miss has a fairly easy road to the SEC playoffs. But they shouldn't stay confortable as their RPI right now would probably get them into the NCAA tournament, but they are in bubble territory, a loss or a bad result can really hurt their chances. They still need more good results to help move their RPI up.

Kentucky (Overall 10-5-1 Conference 5-4-1) 1-0 win vs Georgia. They have a very easy road to the SEC playoffs. USC, Auburn and Vanderbilt. None of them ranked, with 2 of the 3 as possible results, they should be in good shape. They are also in good shape in the RPI department. Despite some flubs, they have pulled off some remarkable results that should ironclad them even if they have a couple of bad games.

Auburn (Overall (Overall 9-8 Conference 5-5) 1-0 loss vs Arkansas. Auburn is certainly not helping their cause out by lossing to teams they shouldn't be lossing too. They have an easy schedule ahead of them and should be working on getting results over these teams, not lossing valuable RPI to teams lower then they are. Auburn is very far from the picture and it will more then likey need a conference auto bid for them to make it into the NCAA tournament.

I'll try to fill you in on how the Big East tournament works which is unusual to say the least. Top 5 teams in each division make it in, making it a total of 10 teams. Each pod is seeded with the teams from the top getting seeded 1-5. The top 3 seeded teams in each pod has a bye, while the 4 and 5 seeded teams battle it out. seed 5 plays seed 4. Once that is done, then its done normally with top seed battling it out with the bottom seeds and so forth.

In the case with the SEC playoff format, this year with the inclusion of Texas A&M and Missouri, the tournament has expanded from 8 teams to 10. Teams are seeded 1-10 with the top 6 teams getting a bye, while the bottom 4 play off against eachother with the winners facing off against the top seeds of the SEC conference.

Not sure what you mean about this. If this was your senior year, wouldn't you want to play this year out even if you didn't have a chance at the tournament? For the most part, most of these kids will never have a chance at playing at the pro level. So if your on a squad that isn't doing well, I would play it out since these would be my last days playing as an athlete before I graduate and hit the work force.

Here is how the Big East tournament will function this year. The top 4 teams in each division qualify, and are seeded 1-4. This is based on points per game. The reason it is based on points on per game this year is because some teams play 10 games, while others play 11. West Virginia left the American Division, and TCU bolted before they even joined, so now the American Division has 7 teams while the National Division has 8. To compromise the coaches went to a points per game system.

There are 10 teams that make the tournament. So typically the 5th place team in each division would get the 5 seed. However, this year due to the imbalance of number of teams per division, the coaches agreed to let the next 2 highest points per game teams gain those last two spots as 5 seeds. So the 5 seeds could actually come from the same division. It may sound a little complicated but I think this is best compromise for this year before the Big East returns back to 16 teams next year. However, based on my projections it looks like the 5 seeds will still come from separate divisions.

For the tournament here is what we know so far:
Marquette is a 1 seed and will host the 4/5 winner.
Georgetown is a 1 seed and will host the other 4/5 winner.
Notre Dame is a 2 seed, and will host 3 seed Syracuse.
USF is a 2 seed, and will host the 3 seed which will likely be Louisville (Louisville has an easy match at Cincinnati this weekend).
Here are my projections for the 4/5 play-in games (these are ONLY projections, will be clear after this weekend):
Rutgers is a 4 seed and hosts Providence, winner plays at Marquette.
UConn is a 4 seed and hosts Villanova, winner plays at Georgetown.
The quarterfinal winners go on to play semis/finals in Storrs, CT the weekend of November 2/4.

Georgetown won a massive game against Notre Dame. Congrats to them on winning their first ever Big East title. Notre Dame still in decent shape as a 2 seed and will host a quarterfinal.

USF won a huge match against Syracuse. Looked like Syracuse won the statistical edge, but USF found a way to win their third staright 1-0 game. They followed that with a 2-0 win over St. John's. USF put itself in a pretty good position by hosting the upcoming quarterfinal against Louisville, while Syracuse's loss hurts them as they have to travel to Notre Dame.

Georgetown should get a national seed if they continue to take care of business. Marquette and Notre Dame are locks for the NCAA tournament, but need a strong win or two to get a shot at a national seed. Rutgers can get in but have to take care of things against Seton Hall and probably still need 1-2 wins in the Big East tournament which they can do. Louisville is on the bubble but if they beat USF in the quarterfinal that will be a decent boost. Will be interesting to see how far USF's RPI will jump and if they are now in the discussion for an at-large bid. Syracuse lost their opportunity against USF, so they need to get at least to the Big East finals which will be a tall order.
