This is a USMNT thread about a center back candidate that has discussed this player in relation to other options. Sure, the offending poster's "discussion" was short, but I get the point - Hines is not real important when we we have Gonzalez. Agree, disagree, whatever, but it is a legitimate argument.

    There wasn't any argument made.

Look you are the moderator and can do whatever you like. But the argument is simple - as I stated above - Gonzalez is so good we don't need Hines.

Nobody is moderating anything. Chance didn't get in trouble in anyway, but Gonzalez hadn't been mentioned in the thread and it came out of the blue: Gonzalez  in a thread where we had been talking about Seb Hines. No argument was made, because if he had made the one you are making I'd have had something to disagree with.

Funny, why did you come and post here then?

Some of us think he is in the top 3 CB's who have not gotten a chance.

Go post in the CB thread if you don't want to talk Seb Hines here.

I wouldn't be opposed to him getting a chance. But, since he plays in England we won't see him for January and it would be quite a surprise if he's there for the first Hex game. His chance might be the 2013 Gold Cup?

He usually starts for Middlesbrough right?

So, if he declares for the US, can we give him #57?

Just so I can get a Hines 57 jersey.......

    They still make that stuff?

#57 might be just about where he is on the depth chart.

I mean this is my opinion of him. He isnt even playing in the championship for his team.

We have 5 other CBs that play week in and week out for their sides.

So I would put Seb 6th at best.

Talking about a player doesn't necessarily mean only talking the positives about a guy. And right now, if he's sitting the bench in the second level in England, that's not exactly a ringing endorsement. I think the people singing his praises hope/expect him to be a starter and help his team to promotion. If this happens, he looks to be a real contender. But, assuming a jump from bench player in the second level to regularly playing member of a team at top level is a big jump and one Seb will have to take in reality if he wants to be considered. I'm all for hoping he makes such a climb, but I think it may be a bit premature to just expect it.

Middlesbrough has played 24 matches (21 league, 3 cups). Hines has started 13 (10 league, 3 cup and has 3 sub appearances in the 24 total matches.

Yes he has stated multiple times that he wants to play for the United States. Look for Brian Sciaretta's article for more info.

Fair enough, I just disagree with your criticism of his "argument". This may be a Seb Hines thread, but it is in USMNT. The point is obvious to me - given Gonzalez (even with his flaws) a mid-20s mediocrity like Hines doesn't measure up to the USMNT standard. Fair argument and a good place to make it.

I never criticized his argument. That seems to be the part you don't understand. I criticized that he didn't make an argument.

    "Gonzalez  "

    is not an argument.

"I think that Omar Gonzalez is a better option than Seb Hines"

    is an argument.

To me, it's clear the argument he is making if you consider the context. To get back on point, if the USMNT really needs Seb Hines in anything but a quick look-over, ... well good luck to JK.

I would like to say that I do think Omar Gonzalez is a better option but I think this argument is dragging on a bit...

For me the biggest difference is Hines plays against all forwards types, MLS really doesn't possess all the types of forwards and with his limited mobility/ quickness I see him having big problems against "speed/quick" WC forwards.

However, I still rate him and feel in certain situations he would be best CB we have. I think a Cameron/ Gonzalez/ Hines/ Besler rotation depending on match-up and card accumulation is best we have for WC 2014.

So your trying to say MLS is equal to EPL?

Not to many would say MLS is better then English championship league.

You all forget that most games he has missed was due to injury, but most recent posts here seem to have zero knowledge of Hines, where he plays or even what has been posted here so far.

    Got to love the Internet.

This guy asks one question, "is this guy playing in the epl?" And you turned into something COMPLETELY different. THEN you end with, "Got to love the internet."

Settle down there, buckaroo. It doesn't seem to be implying or insinuating anything. I don't even know how you were able to tie the mls into this.

Better? You can't even get agreement on what that means? It's a waste of time to even open this can of worms.

What is relevant - this is just my opinion and I don't know if this was intended by any other posts - is that the Championship is not the type of league where a USMNT coach is likely to be impresssed with a guy who doesn't start all of the time. The same thing would be true of MLS, though we could argue whether the degree is more or less. The basic point is that the USMNT might be excited by a spot starter in the Premier league, one in the Championship, like a spot starter in MLS, is not likely to be a major contributor to the USMNT, especially one in his mid twenties.

Is Hines worth a look? Probably? In a World Cup qualifier in a couple of months? No way.
