A possible answer is that Sigurdsson was the best that Rodgers could do for that price at Swansea. This may not be the case now that he's at Liverpool... at least I hope that's what is going on. EDIT: sorry this was directed at an earlier post questioning why we wouldn't pay more than Tottenham for him...
Hmmm... I think one of the hardest parts to future valuations of players might be trying to predict future health based on history... If someone told me that Agger would definitely be out as much has he has been over the last 2-3 years, then I'd maybe agree (although I would be really really hesitant to mess with our defense). Without much argument, he's the best defender we have now and works well with Skrtel. But how horrible would you feel if you flogged him off, shipped another 10-15 goals in that year and then watched him go injury free for the next year? Given his upside I just don't know how you could take that gamble...
We're being linked with Lacinda Traore, the 6'8 giant that made his name with Cluj. Rodgers was previously linked with him at Swansea, so sounds a little 2+2 to me. Don't see the need for him as we are keeping Carroll. Bellamy linked with a loan back to Cardiff. Don't see a loan happening, but could see him leave permanently. Victor Moses talks up the chances of a move, specifically mentioning us. I'd be game for him coming in. As he says, "If the offer is cool, why not, I will move."
Sounds like the amount for the transfer was exactly the same, Spurs was just willing to pay him more. That's life, the team had a valuation for him, he wanted more. We'll have to see who made the mistake, Liverpool, Spurs, or Sigurdsson.
Hard to believe a player would pick a manager-less club over a big club with the manager you already knew from last season all for a little more money. I'll never understand it.
Spurs will get a manager of quality. They are going to be in the CL race, except that I'm not sure they have a goalie who will win them games. They need a forward, also. Maybe Spurs can prise Chicharito away from Manchester Beknighted.
I can't say I will be disappointed if he does end up at Spurs. I worry though that at the end of the window we'll end up with a couple of panic buys that are going to keep us firmly where we already are.
I think it is simply a case of more money per week. We just wouldn't pay what they would. Rodgers had the lad to trainso he knows what the value is.
We have a budget, we're not Citeh. If paying him the extra 5-15k a week meant that if we go after a top level player and can only offer him 50 instead of 60 or 65, I'm sure Rodgers said he is not worth it.
We are indeed LB. Last summer, I would have been worried if things were this quiet. But I've to say, I'm not panicking at all over the lack of gossip related to us. Rodgers and co have had a solid month to make their lists, check them twice, and make a whole lot of inquiries around the continent. With Rodgers philosophy, we are definitely going to be shopping more continental. And the papers would never have tried to infiltrate his team before this summer to get gossip, so it has allowed him to work in relative anonymity. A spanish-type to create in a central area, a northern european as cover at LB, a third option up front that is a poacher type, and victor moses as our speed on the wing.
Neither did I but it's just the principle. Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about because I'm not a pro footballer; but I just can't see (as a human being) having a choice between two clubs like Spurs and Liverpool with one having no manager and no idea where they'll end up this season and the other with the guy I just played for and I clearly like. We've seen clubs look great one season then, under new management, sink to the abyss the next. I know we're no spring chicken but a little more money a week just doesn't make sense to me for this decision. I mean is this guy really not going to be able to feed his family because he plays for Liverpool? No. It's just a matter of a few more cars he can have, and I'll never understand it. Again, I'm not them and obviously don't know the whole story.
