McDonald has so far had a great season in the Scottish Premier League and it left me wondering about why doesnt he have a regualr place in the Socceroos? Can anyone give me any clues to why he isnt there as from the statisics ive seen he has been brilliant in Scotland and fully deserves a spot in the Australian side.
up until recently we havent really needed mcdonald because we have had viduka, aloisi and at the world cup josh kennedy. the style of game we played under hiddink didnt really require a player like scott mcdonald in the side, although he could have come in handy at the world cup had we selected him. also, its only really been this season and towards the end of last that mcdonald has been playing really well for motherwell, and being young he probably hasnt been one of our best players available for that position. thats my opinion anyway, i hope he doesnt move to wolverhampton.
Why? Kisnorbo kicking on at Leicester after his spell for Hearts in the SPL should show that the championship is the next logical step up for a player like McDonald and at a decent sized club like Wolverhampton he would be a chance to get promoted to the premier league with them. To be honest I don't really rate him personally, he just has nothing about him that stands out to suggest he could make the step up to international level. He's just an Archie Thompson minus pace really and as said above he doesn't fit our system either.
I think what would be ideal for this guy and would definetly help his career even furhter would be a moev to Germany or Holland I mean look what it did for Wilkshire!! From League One to top flight in the Dutch league in which he starts basically every game, has scored a couple and also his team FC Twente are doing well!
Scott McDonald signs for Celtic Celtic secure pre-contract with Motherwell's McDonald tribalfooball.com - March 28, 2007 Celtic have secured Motherwell's Aussie striker Scott McDonald to a pre-contract agreement in a £750,000 deal. The Daily Record says the deal has been completed pending the re-opening of the transfer window. McDonald, the man who famously cost Celtic a league title on the last day of the season two years ago, has agreed a lucrative three-year deal with Celtic. Good news, better club than Rangers, Champions League next season, you've earned it Scott.
Re: Scott McDonald signs for Celtic Excellent news!! But has anyone read the negative comments on some of the Celtic forums about McDonald? They all think he's sh*t! I don't know whether it's just sour grapes from 2 seasons ago or whether they genuinely think that he can't play. Oh well, i hope he goes there & proves all of his knockers wrong! Good work Scott. EDIT: Uh oh.....tribalfootball......hmmmm.... Fox Sports are reporting it as well, so i guess it has some substance!!
Re: Scott McDonald signs for Celtic I just refreshed myself on youtube with the goals that won rangers the title, both great strikes. I just hope that he doesn't get put in line behind the other 4 strikers there, but Zurawaski is probably going to leave
Re: Scott McDonald signs for Celtic most of the negative comments seem to be "Oh but he scored against us" They still seem to think he's a better prospect than Beattie. (Obviously being young makes him better long term)
Re: Scott McDonald signs for Celtic How could the Celtic board sign this guy? Mr. McDonald, we'll never forgive you!!!
Re: Scott McDonald signs for Celtic Lol He was just doing the job he was payed to do!! I hope he sees plenty of game time, i reckon he'll score a bagfull of goals, given the chance.
Scott McDonald is poised to make his Scottish Premier League debut for Celtic on Sunday after starring in the club's mid-week Champions League qualifier. The Australian striker, who missed the first two games of the SPL season through suspension, set-up Paul Hartley's vital away goal in Russia on Wednesday as the Scottish giants claimed an impressive 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow. Celtic will host Spartak in the return leg on August 29, with the winner booking a place in the Champions League group phase. Before then, McDonald - who secured a dream STG750,000 ($A1.87 million) transfer from Motherwell to Celtic, the club he supported as a boy, during the off-season - is expected to get his first taste of SPL football with the hoops away to Aberdeen on Sunday. "He has been a star for us in the pre-season preparations," manager Gordon Strachan said of McDonald, who was left out of the Socceroos squad for last month's Asian Cup campaign to concentrate on his club duties. McDonald impressed on the artificial surface in Moscow, setting up Hartley's headed goal with a pin-point cross midway through the first half. "I haven't had much experience at this level and I just said to myself `do what you do best'," McDonald said. "That's what the manager wanted from me, to work hard and see what came of it. "It's a great result ... it puts us in a great position, but there is still a massive job to be done."
CELTIC manager Gordon Strachan has hailed the form of young Australian forward Scott McDonald after another fine display in the Scottish Premier League. The 24-year-old Melburnian ran amok in Celtic's 5-0 romp over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, having a hand in every goal at Celtic Park today. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,22427219-5006068,00.html
mcdonald is doing really well for us at the minute. got caught offside a few times on saturday which is a bit of a strange occurrence as his runs are usually very well timed (which is the complete opposite to kenny miller). i've been particularly impressed with his movement. he works the channels really well and his strength in holding the ball up and holding off bigger centre backs has been a pleasant surprise. also, he's a natural finisher (again, the opposite of kenny miller). he'll play a major part in our season for sure. here's the goals from our 5-0 win against inverness at the weekend. he didnt get on the scoresheet but assisted the last 2 goals. also played a part in the first goal with a nice pass to naka and rolled the ball to naka for the 3rd. so 3 assists really
Thanks for that- feel free to contribute to this thread whenever you get the chance We did hear that a lot of the Celtic faithful were questioning Skippy's signing, I'm hoping thats he's beginning to win them over and getting them to admit they were wrong!
i'll do my best to keep you updated on his progress. a few did question his signing but unfortunately celtic are no different from a lot of clubs in that they have a moronic element that choose the smallest, slightest thing and latch onto it in an attempt to justify the abuse they dish out to someone. the small thing with scott was obviously the 2 goals he scored for motherwell that cost celtic the league. but in retrospect, and with a little common sense, it's simple enough to determine that we cost ourselves that league and not scott mcdonald. just as a certain minority still don't like WGS because he isn't a 'celtic man'. as in, he has no previous history with celtic. again these idiots are fast disappearing as gordon continues to build a terrific squad (not just team). i'm a season card holder at parkhead and scott mcdonald is well liked by the fans and i'm sure will be a major success for us this season.
celtic lost 3-2 to hibs at the weekend and although he didn't score skippy was generally regarded as being celtic's best player. with the score tied at 2-2 and celtic pushing for the go ahead goal WGS(wee gordon strachan) subbed mcdonald for killen in the 70th minute. it seemed a strange decision at the time as his constant movement and close control were causing hibs all sorts of problems all game long. needless to say that once killen came on we lost our attacking edge that we had and hibs came back into the game in the last 15mins or so. eventually scoring through a monumental artur boruc blunder... very unlike the holy goalie. we play dundee tonight away in the third round of the CIS cup. WGS was expected to give a few fringe players a run out but has stated that he'll play his strongest team. this remains to be seen so i'm not sure if mcdonald will play tonight yet or not. i'll keep this thread updated as often as possible on his progress.
^^ Seems as though McDonald has been one of Celtic's best players so far this season? Hope he keeps it up, i'm glad you guys are warming to him! What a bargain buy he was.
he has been a bargain buy and he's certainly been consistently our best striker this season although hesselink has scored more goals. the fans at parkhead have warmed to him as he's proven so far in his early celtic career that he deserves to wear the shirt.
he also set up hesselinks goal. he's in a rich vein of form at the minute. once i have a video of it i'll post it on here.
