I really hope that's not the major announcement! IMO naming a coach is a major thing for the team not a restaurant sponsorship. They need all the sponsors they can get so that's good news - just not major news.
Hi all, Our major announcement this week will be announcing our new Head Coach. If you have any questions for the coach, please feel free to post them. Look forward to seeing those that can attend at the event! For those who cannot, we'll live stream the event on SanAntonioScorpions.com From our Facebook: "The San Antonio Scorpions are extending an invitation to join us in welcoming our new Head Coach tomorrow at Morgan's Wonderland Event Center at 1:30pm. This is a monumental step for Scorpions FC franchise and professional soccer in San Antonio. Those who are unable to attend the event live can watch a broadcast online at the Scorpions website."
Yes very nice. I hope they come back often. So its pretty exciting, getting their first coach. Any more guesses? Okay I doubt its Eric Wynalda... Jorge Campos? Any mysterious soccer-like celebs sighted in San Antonio recently?
Well, what other teams does PMI consult with that they might have been around an exisiting assistant coach or former head coach in the lower divisions of soccer? According to the PMI website they work with the following teams... Carolina Railhawks Puerto Rico Islanders FC Tampa Bay Fort Lauderdale Strikers DC United NSC Minnesota Stars FC Edmonton Atlanta Silverbacks Maybe it's an assistant from this group?
And the coach is.... Tim Hankinson! You say who is that? Read up here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Hankinson He seems like a good choice...was the first coach of the Charleston Battery, coached the Tampa Bay Mutiny & Colorado Rapids.
A little older choice than I would of guessed. He was notorious in Colorado for super D long ball soccer which isn't attractive. But he is solid. Fort Lewis was a powerhouse in DII under him.
A good choice in my opinion. Will bring a sense of stability to the program. Glad to see that he does have the experience at this level and above.
It reminded fans of Bob Houghton. Given Heroes stadium's narrow dimensions and the plastic turf, this is the style they will have to play. The fans won't like it, but you got to work with what you have.
He's been a successful coach at this level and don't forget he helped to scout and bring in most of the intial players when MLS started. I think he's a good choice to start up a team.
I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I think the choice was a good one for D2. Now let's see what type of team he can put together.
