My dad took me by the seat of my pants, put me in bed and told me to shut up and go to sleep! Cranky kids indeed! Give me a break!

The kids and the people who bore them have gone soft. Let's call it "Generation Participation Award".

    Or: A bunch of Nancies.

I think I told my dad that I had "rights" a couple of times when I was still a child being supported by my parents. Pretty funny when I think back on it.

I told my dad that once and only once and never dared to say it ever again!

Yeah, I remember something like that. At 16, I was launched in flight from living room to dining room.

Anybody else concerned that 1/4 of the season has passed and there's essentially no significant progress on the stadium front? Until groundbreaking is announced, I'm still not totally sanguine regarding the prospects for a stadium being built...

They have to design the place before they can build it.;) Kaval has mentioned a couple times lately that they are having regular meetings over design, and once that is done they then can apply for the building permit.

Not with them giving us progress reports on the design phase every week or two lately. They've got to design it before they can build it. And so far they seem like they're almost done that phase. However if summer passes without shovels in the ground then I'll be concerned.

I've already heard multiple times shovels in the ground "Fall 2012". Don't get your hopes up.

I thought the plans were already designed over and again since 2009 & they were only waiting for the February 22 planning commission approval/vote?

The detailed construction drawings -- the blueprints, if you will -- were delayed pending the use permit, which was finally adopted following that 2/22 meeting. The detailed drawings are estimated to cost on the order of $2 million, an investment that was considered unduly speculative absent the necessary approval provided by the planning commission.

I personally never doubted we would obtain the use permit and would have proceeded earlier on the blueprints in parallel path, but then it's not my $2 million.

Detailed drawings and blueprints are estimated to cost $2 million? Seriously? Wow are they using gold plated paper and protractors? Incredible!

Makes the $500k Economic Impact report the city came up with sound like peanuts.

Makes you want to rethink your line of work doesn't it. 2 million bucks to do a few drawings...

But it's a very legit reason for the Quakes to have held off. I wouldn't have spent the 2 mil until I was sure it was happening either. The good news is however they're spending it now which is a good sign they're all in.

I would bet that the $2mm is only a fraction of the total architect fee.

My understanding it that design and specs are 15 to 20 percent of the project cost.

Well if Red Bull's announcers said it, it must be true because they're so plugged in to what's happening in San Jose
