And I think it's getting ahead of ourselves. Much like speculating on the 2016 race on the day after the 2013 inauguration. But that's just me.

These projections - even a year out - are a parlor game at best and mental masturbation at worst. So much can happen between now and then, their actual analytic value is debatable. And probably just plain wrong.

Hence, lumping them into the same "Hey, let's spin our wheels doing this!" category as scarves.

Personally I don't understand how academy players could play for the USL Pro team and not lose college eligibility, unless they play before they go to college I guess. I'm sure they will sign players to USL-only contracts as well.

But RSL already has the Arizonia academy so they would have MLS, USL & the AZ academy. Hope that answers your question.

Don't forget the PDL team. St. George is supposedly getting the PDL team no?

If RSL gets a PDL team, they'll be in the pyramid too.

Looks like one of the reporters at the Salt Lake Tribune couldn't keep information under his hat...

Haven't visited this thread in a while... Had to laugh when I saw that. I haven't even had time or resources to get my Real St George logos up and going so don't get too carried away.

Flash beat Hasental to get into the USOC for the first time since rejoining competitive soccer. They also have their home opener on Saturday 3/22 at 6:30pm v Santa Clarita at Mira Mesa High. The entry to the parking lot last game was off of Camino Ruiz, not the school's main entrance side of the campus.

As for USL, in case anyone missed it in the myriad of other threads out there, RSL was revealed a couple of days ago to be pursuing building a soccer academy and USL squad in Oceanside (not San Diego) at the old Goat Hill Golf Course. However public opposition was heavy and swift and the plan was killed about 24 hours after having been made public by the city council. Now RSL did look at 2 other sites in Oceanside and could presumably go after one of them. Still what do people think of them placing the USL team so far out at the northern edge of the county? I mean I get having the academy out there for the LA/SD player acquisition aspect. But it seems to me it would likely be more cost effective and useful to have the USL squad play somewhere closer to downtown San Diego like Torero Stadium than to build a new 8,000 seat stadium in Oceanside that they'll never fill.

I would imagine the cost to build an 8,000 seat stadium in most places in San Diego County would be high, but, yeah, Oceanside would seem to be somewhere that would render it hard to make happen and to sustain.

Your a little behind (happens when news changes by the hour). RSL has already identified 2 other sites in Oceanside. A little far from SD but still a potential location for a new USL Pro team.

Yeah but San Diego isn't up for an MLS team and likely won't be until the distant future. No stadium, no owner, no more expansion teams for a long while after Minnesota/Sacramento means SD gets USL long term and should enjoy it. It's the best we're likely to see for a while. Which is why I hope San Diego's new RSL overlords do the right thing and put the team closer to SD proper even if they still build the academy in Oceanside.

Most of the big teams USL, NASL and MLS need to sell beer to the fans. San Diego has only 2 venues that can handle that; The Q and Petco. Neither is good for a start up USL that doesn't have a fan base built. I believe that SD is not ready to support a USL team yet. Maybe a few more years. Building their own stadium would fulfill that Beer need.
USD is private Catholic Univ. I doubt it they will allow anyone to sell beer to the fans.
