Are there any plans for Jack Murphy Stadium if the Chargers leave? Would be an easy place to build a SSS, I would think (no EIR needed, already owned by the city).
No there aren't. But that's because of the contamination on the site from the neighboring gas storage tanks. It would require a massive environmental cleanup before new construction could go forward.
Ah, I hadn't heard of that. That's too bad. Seems crazy they'll keep the current stadium open with that though.
It's not a health risk at present because it's in the soil under the stadium and parking lot. You start tearing either up to build a new stadium and then it becomes an issue.
I posted this over in the NASL expansion forum as well. Flash FB reports Escondido considering an SSS. http://www.nctimes.com/news/local/e...cle_23d2f8c1-4fe0-5cd1-8375-fd99a9bdcee4.html
I know. I didn't get the impression from the article (or the FB post, which was posted via someone else). But I imagine they're the only club on the radar (if by nothing else, by virtue of being similar-sized yet better-connected than Boca).
Looks like the Flash have a short notice friendly this weekend against the LA Blues. Game is being played up in San Marcos at Mission Hills High at 1:30pm on Sat 3/9. They're advertising it on their FB page.

Flash have been pretty quiet this off season. But Clent did post the other day on Twitter that they were watching Indy Eleven's progress as it relates to a stadium. Though not sure why, Indy's plan is to beg for a public handout, which might work in the mid-west. It won't work in San Diego.
Is there any team in the whole world that spam and troll Twitter like the Flash? Just check out their tweets for a 24 hour period. Its like 400 tweets a day, all basically saying the same 4 things "How you can join Warren Barton & Eric Wynalda as a Part-Owner in future of #Soccer in #SanDiego! VIDEO: http://bit.ly/FlashInv #GrowTheGame"
It was my understanding that Barton had moved on for the most part after the 2012 season. Wynalda too. And yeah they do have a tendency to overdo it on social media. I had to unfriendly the Flash account and now just follow Clent to get news. He's more conservative with what he posts on his feed.
Guess the Flash owners had some big meeting today that they're all excited about and are going to have an announcement about later.
Probably something along those lines. I love their enthusiasm, and they're definitely one of the better run NPSL teams... but sometimes I feel like their enthusiasm far outpaces what their team really is... But who knows, maybe they finally have news that's actually news worthy.
