really, really hope we can use this as a loan place, this is where we needed to send the Jacob Hustedts and Ampais of the world for two or three years. Would love to send two or three players there a year

I'd actually like to see our reserve team play in that league as Sacto....

Yeah, this! For this season, we could loan players to either Phoenix FC or Orlando, or some other USLPro or NASL side. (Edmonton is the closest NASL side, el-lay Blues are closest USLPro team, but they fold after this season. I hope not, but they lost a ton of money last year.)

I want to see us sign guys, and loan them to the lower divisions to stash them there for a season or two. It did wonders for Morrow, it could be a huge help to some of these other raw young players. Sacramento is close enough that we could easily keep an eye on them too. And it would be good for Sacramento, and that would help grow the beautiful game in the U States.

    GO QUAKES!!

Ackphtt! Typing too fast. I should have said that el-lay Blues MAY fold after this season, not that they will. They lost a bunch of money in '12, but then hired a new coach and GM for this season, so that shows some commitment. I hope they stick around, but who knows about the lower divisions?

I've posted a new thread in the Sacramento USL Pro Expansion forum about the city of Elk Grove's ongoing attempts to build a stadium and lure an MLS team:

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/elk-grove-pursuing-mls.1984083/

This is important as it effects soccer in our region as well as NorCal as a whole. I'd appreciate the thoughts and action of anyone interested.

a $100 million SSS out in the middle of nowhere in the burbs on the far southeastern edge of the burbs with nothing else to the south, west, or east... have they learned nothing from the mistakes that FCD and Colorado made? MLS will never go for it, and $100 million is overkill for USL. the whole thing stinks.

Sacramento deserves a USL team, and could probably support an MLS team if the stadium were built near downtown (like how about near the rivercats stadium). But this elk grove plan is a joke.

As a resident of Sacramento, I agree. Even though a couple of suburban stadiums have worked out (Overland KS and Sandy UT), Elk Grove is Sacramento's equivalent of Morgan Hill. Downtown Sacramento has a pretty vibrant urban core and most of the supporters would come from there, not from soccer moms in the burbs. MLS knows better and it will never happen in Elk Grove. Never.

I'd like to see the stadium built at the old railyards.

I just can't see MLS moving into Elk Grove. And what is it with cities/groups building stadiums that are far bigger than their needs. I mean it's bad enough the Cosmos are trying to do it in NYC. But to do so in Elk Grove???

Don't knock it. Vergera is supposedly looking at LA and elsewhere. I'm sure he wouldn't discount the idea. Nevermind it won't solve Chivas' problem. Namely that they're named Chivas.

wouldn't he need MLS's approval to move? I can't imagine they would ever approve a SSS out in elk grove after the lessons they have learned from FCD & Colorado.

They'd have another name, but that is what people would call them until the team became respectable.

I'm not going to venture over to their forum so I don't know how much passion there is for keeping them there. The perception of their FO is they seem clueless and heading for failure. I'm sure there were people who had a similar view of San Jose in 2004/2005 even though the failure and cluelessness of the "FO" at that time was the result of apathy rather than the incompetence that seems to eminate from Chivas USA.

From what I read, they drew 3000 people to one of their first games of the season. Not sure how there are that many fans who really care about them in LA.

They only had 5000 at opening day. If it's an organized protest it's quickly going to have them playing in front of an empty house. Somehow I don't think the Honda SuperClasico is going to be so "Super" this year.

From what one of their fans in their thread posted, that number was inflated and it was more like 3k.

Didn't Lew Wolff get "territorial rights" to all of Northern California (incl Sacramento) when he brought the Earthquakes back to MLS?

And I just drove through Elk Grove over the weekend on our way to Tahoe. Definitely not much going on in that neighborhood.....
