blah, color me unhappy with this. stupid time to be flying to france if we manage to qualify for the Cup final. MLS has REALLY bungled this whole playoffs, from the garbage wild card games, to the stupid short turnarounds for the first round and then the conference finals and then the long ass delay until the MLS Cup. they really should have considered the FIFA date when planning the playoffs instead of bringing out this format.

I'm not sure what more you would expect them to do. Its not MLS who put a Nats game in France the weekend before MLS Cup. Seems like that was bad planning on the USSF's part. As to the playoff schedule, how would you have done it? Squeezed in even more games in short timeframes to get MLS Cup two weeks earlier?

Seriously. I felt a dance party coming on...

every team plays 2 more weekday games during the regular season, the regular season is shortened by 2 weeks. bam, problem solved. now we have the MLS Cup BEFORE this international window, players dont have to fly half way around the world for a meaningless friendly before the biggest game in their MLS season.

that, or start the season 1 week early, play 1 more weekday game. this isnt rocket science, MLS has truly bungled this whole playoff setup.

But the playoffs are still smashed into a 2 week window to get them completed before MLS Cup. I thought you had as much of an issue with that as the international window before MLS Cup.

I don't think this is really a big deal. The game against France is November 11; the MLS Cup final is November 20. That is plenty of time for Beckerman to hop on the non-stop from Paris to SLC and get back for the MLS Cup, should we still be playing.

The tighter squeeze is on the front end. If RSL hosts New York, there's no way Kyle would make it to France before November 9, two days before the game.

Even playing on Sunday against LA wouldn't give Beckerman and Donovan much time to settle in before the France game.

Here's a fun fact about that flight:

I was pricing flights to Europe a couple of months ago, and looking at going from SLC to Paris or Geneva. The direct flight from SLC to Paris was $500 more expensive than the SLC to Geneva flight with a single layover in...Paris. I will never understand plane ticket pricing mechanisms.

And somehow in that one off game we won 2-0 (3-2) aggregate!

I was flipping through my HD channels looking for some college football games to watch and noticed I now have Fox Soccer Channel HD.

Comcast channel 732. Does anyone know when this went into effect? It would have been nice to know if this was available during the SEA-RSL game 1.
