Well, yeah, because you can't handle someone who doesn't agree with you almost 100%. :)

I don't have a comment. Just wondered how many people on this board are likely to have DVR'd Wolves vs. Swansea. :p

I don't know if anyone saw this in the paper yesterday. Thoughts from Jazz President Randy Rigby. I'm not arguing the assertion or the fact that the Jazz are still king of the hill around here. I don't believe they will always stay there though especially if RSL continues to improve its fan base and support.

His snarky and condescending tone in referencing RSL is most distasteful and only adds to my dislike and disdain for a team I rooted for growing up. A sport and league I also thought was the best thing on earth. Those days are long past and my ONE allegiance is to RSL. Sure I want Utah sports teams to be successful but as far as the Jazz go my love is now equal in indifference and if they left I would say good riddance. Harsh. But the NBA today and the game they play I find incredibly unattractive and I hardly watch.

"But 25 years spent working for LHM and watching the Jazz achieve what most small markets can only dream of has given Rigby a unique perspective. Yes, Real is a “great thing.” But RSL is just a farm club for European soccer, Rigby said, comparable to what the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees are to Major League Baseball.

The Jazz? They’re still the king of the mountain. And Rigby doesn’t plan to let that change anytime soon."

RSL still has a long way to go in turning the hearts and minds of fans in Salt Lake but I thought that the attitude expressed by Mr. Rigby shows a general lack of respect for a team that has accomplished the one thing the Jazz seem incapable of, winning a championship.

After reading this my first thought was "what does Dave Checketts think about this comment?" I hope he is pissed and motivated to shove a little crow down Rigbys throat or up something. Whatever he prefers.

Time will tell how long they can stay on top but I for one can't wait for the top to get pretty crowded.

    GO RSL!

That's good news. It means the Jazz don't see RSL as a competitive threat for customer dollars, which is perfectly fine for RSL.

Hubris in the competition is not a bad thing. It's to be celebrated.

As long as top players like Yura, Findley, and earlier Adu treat RSL as a stepping stone for Europe, he'll have a point. One I disagree with, but it's pretty easy to see where the idea comes from.

Could be but I think there is a little more to it than that. I think he was very calculated in disrespecting RSL. If RSL is not perceived as a threat there is no need for such a condescending remark. He has to know that MLS and RSL are no ones farm team. MLS is not the EPL, La Liga or anywhere near the top of the soccer heap but it is the top level of sport in America.

He has every right to be confident and smug. The Jazz have earned their place on top and rightfully so.

Pride doth goeth before the fall however.

meh, the utah jazz can eat shit. my dad and i were hardcore utah jazz fans when i was a kid, shit i went to school with both john stockton and jeff hornaceks kids (plus one of the physio trainers' wife taught PE at my school). i went to tons of games and i idolized the jazz. once i moved to portland in 2003 i started changing little by little, the old guard of the jazz all retired and the new NBA era was starting. by 2009 i was becoming a bigger trailblazers fan, the blazers as an organization were replicating what the jazz did in the 90's, from players and coaches all the way up. when sloan retired and the jazz traded DWill i pretty much renounced any fandome i had of the jazz. every link to my childhood favorite was gone and the organization showed they cared far more about making money off their fans and saving money on the team. plus all the bullshit behind the scenes crap from LHM and others in the Jazz going against Checketts and RSL really pissed me off.

RSL average almost 17,500 per game this year. granted thats in half the number of home games compared to the jazz, but RSL has become entrenched in the SLC community. if the NBA lockout goes for a large portion, or even all of, this year than the Jazz are going to be hurting REALLY bad. the large market teams that make a ton of money can afford for a season to slip through the cracks. the jazz, not so. the NBA is losing support rapidly with all the crap thats going on, people are tired of this new era of whiny, overpaid, under talented NBA players. it doesnt help that its obvious that the league plays favorites year after year after year. screw the NBA.

    Agreed UP
I want the league to fold, honestly. I'm sick and tired of professional and-one basketball that is the NBA.

As for the comments? So be it.
He obviously wouldn't be thinking of us if we weren't in some way on the radar.

The irony, of course, is that NBA players are now looking for paydays in overseas' leagues, including Jazz payer(s).

I agree with the Jazz sentiments.

They finally lost me completely when Sloan left and they traded Deron Williams.

I have loved seeing the RSL fanbase grow and mature over the past couple years. On Saturday I had never seen our home crowd be so into the game from the first kick since the CCL final. Other games the crowd really got into the game down the stretch but on Saturday you could hear the roar of the crowd grow in anticipation during our very first chances. And we were on the verge of outdoing our awesome "Ole Ole" chant from the Cbus CCL match in the 90th minute until Portland spoiled it. Can't wait for the next game.

Do the Rimando Bobble-heads look really strange to anybody else?
The big bobble-head at the game? Goodness that thing was freaky looking...

    I love my bobble heads.

I thought our crowd was great, too. We were roaring with every chance. It really sucks that RSL didn't keep up that early 2011 play the second half. :( I want to see a full game of that. It better be against Seattle.

So let me get this straight. The only reason we wont got back to CCL is if Colorado or Columbus somehow make it to the final?

    or New York

If NY wins the FCD/NY wildcard, then they would play LA.

Honestly, the ONLY series that matters in terms of RSL going to CCL next year (as of right now) is the LA v wildcard. Once.... er I mean if LA wins that one, we are in to CCL

As long as LA reaches the Western Conference Final, we'll get in the CCL, 100% guaranteed. Right now it's 75%.

Yeah, but as long as players like Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer treat the Jazz as a stepping stone for big-market NBA teams, his point will fail to convince me that the Jazz are in that much of a better position than RSL.

I thought his remark bordered on desperation. If he wasn't concerned, he wouldn't have played the low class card that he played. My respect for the man was lowered a few notches.

Well... I did, but that's only because I DVR all EPL games based on a global setting. If I were picking games to DVR, I wouldn't have picked it and I would have missed a fun game to watch. I do pick and choose a bit on a busy week which games to watch and that would have been fairly likely to have not gotten watched on a busier week.
