BTW, just to be clear: when I said "the farther they go", I mean that the 6th-place finisher (i.e. whoever manages to lose in the quarterfinals, then lose in the 5th-place match) only gets $1 million, and the prize money goes up the higher you finish. For instance, Pachuca got $500,000 extra last year just for winning the 5th-place match (on penalties, no less).

I wonder if this going to be like a Superliga thing where the purse is $$$ but MLS takes 90% of it? Superliga prise was what? $1 mill? And the team only got 200k to split?

would these bonuses be counted against the cap? Suddenly we would have 3 DP's?

How about this: Will Johnson and Beckerman get DP status, and the team allows the two of them and Sabo to split all the prize money. In exchange, dinner's on those three for the next three years. :D

No way will they count against the cap. That would be idiotic, and MLS would never be idiotic.

I think you just made the argument for why it is that way.

The bonuses RSL got for winning MLS Cup DID - DID - count against the cap.

    That's inane.

My only hope is that MLS didn't have the foresight to create a wacky rule for this particular contingency...which is not a stretch.

MLS did grant all the teams who are participating in CCL play this season allocation money that can be used to buy down salary cap hits.

Just a clarification - these amounts go to the team. The entire amount does not necessarily get distributed to the players (although I'd guess that the majority of it would).

    I don't believe that's the case here.

I can't imagine MLS not getting any of it. That would be against the run of play, so to speak. Also, the team will have expenses participating in the cup.

Plus, I'm sure that the Garth, Jason and the assistant coaches, possibly relevant former assistant coaches, and relevant former players get shares too. At least, if it was up to me they would be considered.

yeah, Fraser should really get something out of this run. To say he didn't play a role in it would be laughable.

Yep, that's the assistant that I had in mind. I also thought that Yura, Robbie and Pablo might also be considered.

The MLS could maybe demand gate revenues and a piece of the concessions but I don't see why they would want a piece of the $1.5 million. I mean what would they do with the money even if its divided evenly among 18 teams and how much will be left over,$50k at most? Thats not even a drop in the bucket for any of the teams. I'm sure they will be happy and get sponsorship dollars if RSL qualifies for the Club WC.

just found this site with an awesome RSL CCL graphic:

    http://www.usdish.com/rsl-concacaf-champions

The graphic is a single picture and very large. Right-click and save as to get it and then this works as a really cool desktop background for RSL fans.

Yura didn't play in the CCL. Pablo should just be happy he got paid a salary at all while he was here.

While true, they both contributed to RSL winning the MLS CUP, which is why they qualified for CCL.

That's what the teams decide, a player's meeting to determine shares and who gets how many.

The latest (and probably last, for now) Champions League 360 is now out:

    http://www.mlssoccer.com/videos?catid=112&id=14178

The last sequence is gut-wrenching in just how powerfully it evokes the players' sentiment in that exact moment.

And a final word on my part: I started this thread because I hadn't seen one on the CCL yet in your forum, and I thought that while it did make sense (since the team did just win its first-ever MLS Cup), there was something extra for you guys to celebrate.

I want to thank you guys here, RSL's fans in general and the team for having embraced the tournament like you did. It is a CONCACAF production, with the drawbacks that entails (e.g. those replays...); but more importantly it is the championship of our continent, and RSL has proven that MLS teams do have a lot to gain from taking a real shot at it, e.g. facing stronger challenges than what other MLS teams can provide, getting experience in foreign venues (plus learning about those countries), earning the support of the entire league, gaining respect throughout the region, etc.

I personally have three levels of teams that I cheer for: those I consider mine (US and Haiti's national teams), those I support no matter how they play (Saprissa and Cruz Azul), and those I support temporarily because of how they play (e.g. Chicago Fire when Blanco was around - now, no longer). RSL definitely made it onto the last tier for me with how they approached this tournament, especially with that performance at Cruz Azul, playing with no fear of their Mexican surroundings and bravely going for the win. All I'd need is a reason to believe that this attitude is/will become synonymous with the club (i.e. when Kreis eventually leaves, RSL's managemente would refuse to allow someone like Preki to alter the team's offensive mentality), and RSL would definitely make it to my second level.
