+1 on this the whole game changes on a goal / non-goal. RSL NOT getting that goal pushed us to get the win, you could argue. Oh, and the timing of going up 1 was huge. We're not known as a team that closes out well - especially on the road (see New York, Montreal, etc etc from last year) Each moment in a game affects the rest so heavily that the only moment that really you could say something like that about is the last kick.
This is what I thought too. After getting the second goal I actually thought that the horrible call ended up being to our advantage because we would bunker for 5 minutes less
It's far from just me. former BS member @SALTLAKEJAKE is the editor and other RSL fans contribute often. I'm happy that Jake gave me the chance to do it with shared responsibilities of running the site. It's a whole lot easier than running one on my own
Nice work! And thank you for providing the call sign of your editor. Now I know who to send my grammar Nazi comments.
I don't know why not. In 2013 RSL was first in the league in goals scored in the last 15 minutes of matches and 3rd in goal differential. If you look at goals conceded, RSL falls to 11th, but the whopping 19 goals they scored dwarfed everyone else in the league. I had these data all compiled, but my pc just crashed, so now you'll just have to take my word for it.
I have no idea. I would be inclined to think not, unless someone actually goes though and tallies it up for the whole league and proves me wrong.
Well I didn't figure out the whole league but I did write an article back in Oct. looking at this for last year. http://ccb1212.blogspot.com/2013/10/what-might-have-been-missed-chances-for.html
I wonder how many kids have tried to use this line in their citations list at the end of a research paper.
I gathered numbers for RSL a while back looking at this, in response to @ccb1212 's article that he wrote, and posted them here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/the-chase-2013.1992953/page-8#post-28850811 I didn't run the numbers for the whole league, but at least among the top teams last year RSL wasn't appreciably worse at holding on to a lead than the other teams. It just seems that way because last year we scored first more often than almost any other team.
/belated cheering mode on/ Yeah! RSL! Stick to the hated Galaxy! /belated cheering mode off/ I've been out of internet range for the last week on vacation. You should all try it sometime. You don't know what to do with all the time you'll have on your hands.
