You mean like Salcedo who just recently signed a homegrown deal? That depends on the situation. It's more or less like any other developmental deal. There can be HG deals that are GA funded and those have some special rules about them. Typically 1-4 years. I think it was confirmed by Garth somewhere along the way, but I don't remember where - Winterfest, maybe? Also I beleive that Attinella and Salcedo would both occupy the dev roster replacing Luis and Muniz.
I'm pretty sure Garth said that they 'expected' Luis to graduate at Winterfest, but at that point there was no confirmation. Don't recall hearing any mention of Carlos' deal either, nor is he shown on the team roster yet (vs. Maund, Atinnella and Palmer who are on there).
Salcedo was clearly announced by Garth at Winterfest. I wouldn't go by the MLS roster. Often not updated in a timely fashion during offseason.
My old memory must be fading re: Salcedo. LOL on 'not updated in a timely fashion' - check out RSL's latest page update... and still no Salcedo.
see the 24th minute... however, this was a foregone conclusion as there were strong signals of this last summer and the team had a handshake deal with him last fall, but couldn't sign him (because of lack of a development spot) until Jan. Carlos Salcedo: RSL’s Next Home Grown Signing?
After the 2011 season, Garth mentioned that there are a number of factors that can affect GA status, but one of them is minutes played and Gil was just short of that in 2011. He played 1610 minutes this last season, up from 1288 in 2011. So I had always assumed that he'd be graduated.
From the "seven story lines" piece by Jeff Carlisle on ESPN.com: 6. Will RSL surprise once again? No team shows a willingness to think outside the box quite like Real Salt Lake. In 2009 RSL shocked those in attendance by taking midfielder Jean Alexandre out of tiny Lynn University. Last year Real went the unusual route of mining the junior college ranks to select Sebastian Velasquez in the second round. Of course, general manager Garth Lagerwey and coach Jason Kreis have made more conventional picks such as midfielder Collen Warner in 2010, but either way, it will be interesting to see what direction the team takes this time around.
I think RSL will trade up to try and get the Gambian kid some how and take the Isern kid in the second round. I don't see Garson taking a kid who misbehaved his way out of Duke.
Anybody else watching this? Available here http://www.mlssoccer.com/superdraft/2013 if you don't have ESPN3 Why the hell are people there chanting?
Because they're Fire fans and they're...special. P.S. First pick pushed back to 10:18 so ESPN can do coverage of the Manti Te'o hoax. Yes, seriously.
Holy crap, they're ridiculous. What is it about supporters groups that attracts these attention whores?....Oh, right.
Why is the news so huge? He's either the biggest POS attention whore or the biggest sucker on the planet.
Alexi Lalas just says that the Rapids Cup win was a fluke ... I don't know whether to feel bad that I agree with him or just keep muttering "even blind squirrels ..."
Cool that Alvarez got picked by Chivas. He openly said that was his #1 preference. Interesting that anyone wants to go there. But, his dad did play for Chivas Guadalajara, so he's probably been a lifelong Chivas fan.
