But....we still have one more day of the offseason....I'm already feeling separation anxiety from the old thread being closed....
I've been looking through the 2013 Jersey Leaks Thread over in the MLS: General forum. One poster indicated that the new Adidas deal requires each team to release 1 jersey per season. Has anyone heard anything on this? Is this true, and if so, why didn't RSL release a jersey this year?
One last quick mention from training yesterday... Luis Gil was there for a very short time. I got there about 30 minutes into the session and he was leaving as I was getting there. Javi trained briefly. By the time I got my stuff setup he was gone. Matt at RSL Soapbox also has some good training notes.
Question for anyone who might know: Who is Carlos Salcedo? I've seen his name pop up a few times in training notes and during the preseason, but I don't know much about him. Anyone have some insight?
The final piece of the puzzle. Real Salt Lake sign defender Rich Balchan to bolster injury-hit backline http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/artic...nder-rich-balchan-bolster-injury-hit-backline
Good for Balchan. Troubling, perhaps, that four of our offseason additions were castoffs from teams that did not make the MLS playoffs last year (Balchan and Grossman with Columbus, Maund and Plata with TFC)?
We've also had castoffs that have done well in our system. I'm not that concerned overall, especially since most of them are pretty fringe players that likely won't see much time aside from maybe Plata.
Hell, if we are going to succumb to idiotic pop-culture memes, where's the RSL versions of Gungam style, the Macarena and (my favorite) the Hokey-Pokey?
Aren't many of the castoffs released because of the cost of maintaining their rookie contracts? Seems to me that part of MLS management 101 is value fishing. So Balchan's probably a guy who had an escalating rookie contract, gets hurt, waived, and now RSL signs him for what I'd bet is cheap as a backup with potential upside if he develops.
Isn't "value fishing" par for the course when it comes to sports management? If you can do it and win under MLS rules, just think what you could do when money is no object.
It was a beautiful day, fellow fans enjoyed each others company and my kids had an awesome time and love watching it...
Yes, but I'll wait at least one more week for there to be some real shape to the darned thing, LOL! Nevermind... here's one:
