DJ's professionalism trumps our paranoia. There is no sign of vindictive neglect at KUTV.

If you watched Talkin' Sports last night, you saw a multiple-minute segment on RSL by David James - full of interesting tidbits. He said that if they didn't find what they needed with the trialists then we might see other late additions to the roster.

He spent time at RSL practice, covered the offseason, all the trialists, what RSL has to do to up the ante and better compete with LA etc.

This is a pro sports team, it isn't going to fall off the map and KUTV are professional...Dave Fox excepted (he's a buffoon).

I think with Root Sports you could pull in more casual 'sports' fan that could decide to give RSL a chance. I guess you can argue you'll get that with ABC4 or CW30, but sports fan generally don't hang there.

But you all make good points - I was looking at expanding the base. But I don't disagree after seeing the details that this is a terrific upgrade over the KUTV deal. And if we still get run time on Talkin Sports and Sportsbeat we'll be fine.

My preference for Root Sports was based on the cross-promotional aspect with the Jazz, the HD, as well as how professionally done the graphics / telecasts are, etc.

With the HD and Bill Riley calling the games, pretty sure two of those 3 boxes are checked. Maybe for the cross promotion piece we just get Kyle Beckerman to guest star on Vampire Diaries?

I don't know how to put this, but we're kind of a big deal.

While I certainly do appreciate the kind words, it's all for the love of RSL!

This is a thing of beauty! ...even if it is KTVX... HA! (Sorry, I had to!)

Now that KUTV isn't a part of the RSL world, I'm out of the loop! I'd just be guessing as to why all the games are in HD this season. But I'm NOT complaining!

Who's footing the bill? My guess would be RSL. If they're getting the majority of the ad revenue, I would imagine that the majority of that would be going back into the production costs. Again, I would imagine the concern now is that RSL and ABC4 gets the ratings needed to justify the costs of HD production. We all know that if we're not at the games, for one reason or another, then we're gonna be watching it on the tube; hopefully the rest of Utah will be doing the same!

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that RSL would be footing the bill for the production costs.

So any guesses on how the new tv deal interacts with the new MLS Live?

    Blackouts galore?

If I buy it to watch RSL and not much else is it just a donation to the league because of blackouts?

    Thoughts?

    Knowledge?

I was actually just going to make a thread about MLS Live until I saw your post. I have never seen MLS Live or anything. i am wondering if it is worth it or not. i don't think I will have the problems with the blackouts as I am not in Utah and won't have local coverage of any of the games and the games that will be blacked out will be on ESPN or the like. Do you think it is worth the 60 bucks or whatever it is? are the feeds high quality? I'm used to watching all the games on firstrowsports, is it better than those feeds?

Since you won't have the black out issue I'd do it. The Match Day Live last year was worth it. (I got the early-bird special)

for RSL fans who are not in Utah, MLS Live (or matchday live as it was formally known as) is AWESOME. i watched pretty much every single RSL match last year in good quality (at least the non-2.2 feeds, which wont be a problem this year). the only matches blacked out for me were the national tv games. i highly recommend getting MLS Live, its only $60 (kinda sucks because it was $40 the last few years). i watched a lot more MLS games last the few years than i did previously, it was easy to just turn it on on my laptop and watch games if i wasnt doing anything on the weekends. plus the rewind/replay and archive features were awesome for going back and watching sequences that werent included in the highlights.

if you dont get the cable sports MLS package than i highly recommend getting MLS Live. the feeds are about a million times better than firstrowsports.tv feeds, the quality is straight 1080 HD full screen quality on my 19" laptop if you have a good internet connection.

Thanks UP. Sounds like I'm going to be signing up for this. I can't wait till march 10th. Hopefully the weather is better than last years opener at san jose. That game was so cold!

My experience (from about 3ish years ago) was great for the online feeds. Back when I got it the price was $20. And even if I couldn't watch it live, you could watch it after the fact on demand. Most games were up within a few hours, there were a couple up the next day. I don't recall having to miss a game due to a blackout but since it was a few years ago I assume things may have changed. It was 100% worth it at the time, and for $60 I'd say the value is there if you can't make the games.

If I do wind up moving like im considering, I'll miss being a season ticket holder but I'll be back on the online package for sure.

I've had Matchday Live the past 2 years and it was worth it. The first year RSL was blackedout, but last year I could watch everygame that wasn't on national tv.

I hope they offer the early-bird special for MLS Live.

This year RSL has 4 games not on local TV. Not really worth it in my opinion. Last year was the first year I didn't have it. I was fine. This year it'll be even better with 30 games over the air.

And the games that are on NBC Sports Network are on www.nbcsports.com, and the ESPN game(s) are on ESPN 3. No need for Matchday live, unless you are like Shaggy and watch all the other games too. He must not have a life. ;)

For $6/month during the season, it's not all that bad of a deal even if you live locally so that you get the local broadcasts, and have an ISP that gets you ESPN3 for free. It's still great for watching non-RSL games, and it's great to have access to the archive. It's also invaluable when you are travelling.

Last year when there were several good games going on across the league, I'd have one going on the tv, and have a split screen on the laptop watching a couple of others. I know, I'm a junkie and I have a problem.

even if the games are online at those sites, it still does not beat the MLS Live setup. with MLS Live you can go back to games and rewatch whenever you want, which you cant on other sites. there are also other features MLS Live has that ESPN3 or nbcsports.com dont have which make it worth it.

i think if you are a fan of MLS, like watching soccer and especially like watching a lot of RSL soccer (not just on the day of a match) than MLS Live is a great investment.

Is this true? That is, of course, just the main website for NBC sports. My 2 minute search didn't lead me to anything stating that NBCSN events will be streamed on the website.

This would be great. My dish package does not offer NBCSN...

    I swear I read this from a credible source, I wouldn't have posted it otherwise....I think. :)
