difficult match for Servette today without Baumann, Kusunga and without the suspended Ruefli. Don't expect any new players at Basel either tonight with Salah injured and Sauro and Diaz not ready yet

    I guess they'll play with
    Gonazlez
    Moubandje, Routis, Diallo, Mfuyi
    Kouassi, Pizzinat
    Lang, Pasche, Tréand
    Karanovic

    Sommer
    Steinhöfer, Dragovic, Kovac, Park
    Degen, Cabral, yapi, Stocker
    Frei, Streller

looking forward to see some young players at Servette like Paratte and hoping we get a striker yet (Kelvin?)

so, not many new players tonight and quite thin squads due to injuries, suspended players etc

Despite all of that, I am looking forward to the match. It would be great to get 3 points from Basel the first day of the new season, but I would take 1.

    0-1 FT
Karanovic could have equalized, but Steinhöfer was quicker. Servette had maybe even more opportunities, but Basel was more clever

Basel was not really better, but they scored. Will be interesting to see Basel when Salah, Diaz and Sauro will be available. Especially Salah will be a man to follow - maybe he will be as good as Shaqiri. Servette has the heart as last season and should be able to reach a place in midfield with their fighting spirit.

    tomorrow, Thun vs Lausanne
Lausanne has lost several players and is maybe even a bit weaker than last season
Thun has replaced their players better. Ferreira is back, Ngamkukol is a very fast winger and Cassio was really convincing in the tests. So, Thun should win this one

on Sunday, Lucerne vs Zurich. Lucerne could start with Lezcano and Rangelow and Kryeziu. Zurich with the very convincing Gavranovic, Kukeli, Djimsitl and Da Costa in the starting XI. Zouaghi left them now. Chikhaoui again injured. Will be interested to see if Kryeziu will become the next Kosovo-Swiss player to make it after Behrami, Xhaka, Shaqiri and cie. He has to become more athletic tough. Lucerne is yet better, but thanks to Gavranovic who is in shape, Zurich is dangerous.

GC vs Sion on Sunday. GC got Grichting, Gashi, Vilotic and Ben Khalifa but that won't be enough. Good for Ben Khalifa he's playing again and he did well in the preparation matches I think. He should have a good season. But GC will have to fight not to finish 9th this season. Hopefully, Toko and Hajrovic can make a step forward this season. Sion lost lots of players, but replaced them with very interesting foreign players starting with Gattuso. Now, they yet got Manset who is compared to Drogba, but of course he is not playing yet. However, Itaperuna who convinced in the preparation, Darragi, Marques, captain Gattuso and Aislan will all give their debut for Sion. Dunno whether the automatisms are in place at Sion to win the starting match. But they have a squad with a whole lot of potential.

SG vs YB on Sunday. Difficult to estimate St.Gallens potential. But I would judge them fighting with GC for 8th, behind Zurich, Servette and Thun. At YB, Frey had a good preparation. Hope he gets first team time. Too many talents had been left out at YB in the last few seasons. Lots of potential who was only sitting on the bench or not even that. Their squad is a bit smaller than last season maybe, but that could be for the better as they should have a better team spirit especially with a coach like Rueda.

    my prognostics are
    1 Basel
2 and 3 YB or Sion
    4 Lucerne
5 to 7 Zurich, Servette and Thun
8 and 9 GC and SG
    10 LS

Thun vs Lausanne still 0-0 at HM
tomorrow, Lucerne, Zurich and GC will have to play without the Olympics participants Hochstrasser, Wiss, Drmic, Buff, Zuber and Abrashi
St.Gallen without the suspended Besle, YB without the suspended Bobadilla and without Doubai

Routis injured, of course Diallo is still injured. made a mistake above

Pak - I guess he should be training with the first team, although he was not in the squad vs Servette. Basel said they wanted to keep him

Servette might be able to get a win at home over underachieving YB.

    FT Zurich 4 - 0 Lausanne Sports

FT Servette 1 - 1 Young Boys Bern

Servette gets its first point of the season, but looses another player, this time to a red card (actually two yellow cards). FCZ looking good and FC Luzern, not so much.

yes, well Eudis at least got another 6month contract with Servette
Kusunga and Tréand should be back this week, Esteban played with the reserves but isn't expected back with the first team this month
Mfuyi, Paratte and Rüfli could also be back this week. Things are starting to look better

Luzern-FCSG should be the best match-up of saturday with the Romandie derby as well. GCZ-Servette might be a chance for Servette to gain some traction, they played well in Zurich last year. YB-FCZ should be a very interesting match.

Basel vs Thun 3-1 with a strong trio Salah, Streller and Stocker
YB beats Zurich without much problems
GC much better than a tired Servette, could have won 5-0
Sion a bit lucky but with another win away at Lausanne
haven't seen anything from the Lucerne vs St.Gallen draw

After another horrible match, I am beginning to wonder if Servette will be able to come back from the mountain that they have put in front of themselves.

    1 Sion 13
    2 Basel 9
    -------------------------
    3 St Gallen 9
    4 Young Boys 8
    -------------------------
    5 Grasshoppers 8
    -------------------------
    6 Thun 7
    7 FC Zurich 4
    8 FC Lausanne-Sport 4
    9 Luzern 3
    -------------------------
    10 Servette 1

Before the start of the season I tried hard to place a bet on Sion to win the league.

Unfortunately, Ladbrokes, Hill's, Corals and Paddy Power couldn't give me odds (they'd never heard of Sion anyway)

They had loads of betting opportunities on Man Utd/Chelsea/Man City....

    Such is life in England.

I appreciate that it's 'early doors' (as they say in England) but I'd love it, just love it (in a KK sort of way) if CC's Sion won the league.

Really excited about this season. No Chagajev, no Pishyar. Sankt Gallen and the AFG Arena back where they belong. Hopefully no CC courtcases and insane point deductions. GC with some quality signings. Young swiss strikers like Gavranovic, Drmic and Ben Khalifa with good starts. Hopefully the Genevan people will back their club, would really be a shame to see them go down again.

Sion looks like the team to beat, especially if Basel will qualify for the CL. If YB can their stuff together they can beat almost anyone. A bit worried about FCZ, they really had big quality losses this year and are basically where GC was a few years a go. If they get their injured players back in form they could make the top 4 though.

My bet for the bottom 2 is Servette and Lausanne. Top 3 Sion, Basel and YB. The rest is harder to predict.

If CC Fournier and Gattuso can work together my money is on Sion. Basel took some big losses this summer but Salah looks exciting and Diaz is probably the best central midfielder they've had in years, definitely on the same level as Xhaka (though his potential is bigger). They have a lot to work on in the defence though, hopefully Kay Voser can stay fit. Will Schär challenge Sauro for the spot next to Dragovic?

Once again, this season has a lot of potential!

    Way to go PB.

Sion deserve it after all their point deductions (the likes of which would never happen to e.g. Man Utd) despite the fact that Sir Alex F's club is in circa £400m of debt.

SAF has a 'better' accountant /PR machine?

Am I the only one on here to despise the English Premier League?

    Probably not.

Sion and YB should be the most entertaining of the weekend. I hope that Servette can get 3 points from FCZ. They are finally starting to get a few people healthy. On the side, Servette now has over 3700 season ticket holders. This is more than last year or the previous year.
