Well, that's a big step up from Rapid if Ionita is going to Bundesliga.

All the best to him, he' beginning to look like one of our greats in the upcoming years.

No Romanian players in MLS... Kind of sad not to have Romanians to follow in the US league. Too bad. MLS is getting better. I'm waiting for Portland to join.

Ciprian Deac to Schalke 04, Andrei Cristea to Karlsruhe. 2 young players that can take advantage of playing abroad. Good luck to them...

Mutu is back playing for Fiorentina.
Tamas can't play in the 1st 11 as of lately, after a coach change at WBA.
Plesan plays and scores in Russia 1st league. (probably feels great playing without Becali pressure)
Deac, not seen in the Schalke team lately.
Boloni coaching Lens (still in the 1st league in France)
Radoi focusing on his job in the middle east. He had to give up the duties for the NT to meet this goal.
Florescu fired from his previous Russian team (I think it was Alania). No team yet, but still playing strong(!!!) for the Romanian NT.
Dan Petrescu and his team, Kuban, have 2 wins out of four games in the Russian 1st league.
Chivu getting a lot of reds lately.
    No Romanians in MLS yet....

What's the story on Gabriel Torje? I just found out about him, sounds like he was on the fast track, started with a bang at Udinese, had Arsenal scouting him, but then I realized all that news was over a month old. Has he been less impressive as the season went on?

    Pohang sign Romanian striker Zicu

Reuters New Agency reports that Pohang have secured Iani Zicu's services today.

Zicu who joined CSKA from Politehnica Timisoara in June, was the Romanian league top scorer last season and leads the Bulgarian league's scoring charts at the mid-season break with 13 goals.

The 28-year-old has signed a two-year contract with three-times Asian Champions League winners Pohang. The deal includes an option for two more years.

"I needed a new challenge and that's why I accepted this offer," the Romania international told Bulgarian media. "Pohang Steelers are one of the strongest teams in Asia and I hope to help them to achieve more success."
Zicu became the second player from the Bulgarian championship, joining Pohang in the last 14 months after Lokomotiv Sofia's Ghanaian winger Derek Asamoah, who signed a three-year contract in November 2010.

Shakhtar coach Lucescu injured in car crash

Shakhtar Donetsk's Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu was hurt in a car accident in Bucharest on Friday but a doctor said his injuries were not life threatening.

"He suffered a strong thoracic trauma following a car accident," doctor Bogdan Oprita told private station Realitatea TV from the emergency hospital where Lucescu was admitted.

"He is in stable condition, his state is good. Examination has shown that Lucescu's life is not in danger ... he is speaking," the doctor said about the 66-year-old coach of the Ukrainian club.

Cosmin Olaroiu makes Al Ain contenders again

Twelve months ago, one of the grandest clubs in UAE football, Al Ain, were on their knees, sliding down the table, almost getting relegated. The club with a record nine domestic league titles, five President's Cups and an AFC Champions League in 2003, were living on past glories.

Fast forward to this week, the club are sitting pretty at the top of the Etisalat Pro League and, just maybe, are heading for their first title since 2004.Credit has to go to Romanian coach Cosmin Olaroiu. He has achieved buy-in from the Emirati players - via a Lebanese interpreter - to his philosophy of hard work on the training pitch and that is something not many foreign coaches can claim to have done.

It also help to have players such as Argentinian Ignacio Scocco and the quality of Saudi Arabia captain Yasser Al Qah'tani to rely on. So it seems that Al Ain have found the right recipe and if they keep moving forward in the same fashion, the title is well within reach.

After 10 matches they are four points clear at the top and have yet to lose a match, collecting seven wins and three draws so far.

Mutu scores twice for Cesena, Ujkani saves a penalty

Romanian forward Adrian Mutu struck twice in the first half as Cesena returned to winning ways with a convincing 3-1 win against fellow relegation zone neighbors Novara.

Mutu put his team ahead in the 20th minute before adding his second from the penalty spot after Antonio Candreva was brought down inside the area by Novara's Michel Morganella.

Cesena went into the break 3-0 up after Leandro Rinaudo deflected the ball into his own net in the last minute of the first half.

The hosts should have extended their advantage after the hour mark but Candreva saw his penalty saved by Novara's Albanian goalkeeper Samir Ujkani who did well to get a touch on the ball, keeping the score somewhat respectable.

Substitute Takayuki Morimoto then scored a consolation goal two minutes from time. The result has moved Cesena three points behind 17th-placed Bologna, who visit Napoli on Monday.

    hey guys!

i'm aware of the fact, that i'm in the wrong thread, but this seems the most frequented.

so, i am trying to get an overview about defensive midfielders from leagues i don't know that much. unfortunately, this includes your league :(.

anyway, you guys can help me to turn things around. i'm interested in defensive midfielders, or to be precise: which actors are the most impressing in your league and why (like stamina/ offensive/defensive qualities, ball control and so on).

i'm looking forward to your opinions and answers and hope to get to know your league a little bit better than i do right now.

    best wishes,

not sure if I could make an individual analysis of these players, but I can at least name you a top 10 of the best defensive midfielders in Liga I imo:

    Gabriel Muresan (CFR Cluj)
    Alexandru Bourceanu (Steaua)
    Ousmane N'Doye (FC Vaslui)
    Dan Alexa (Rapid)
    Takayuki Seto (Astra)
    Cristian Todea (Gaz Metan)
    Robert Ilyes (FCM Targu Mures)
    Djakaridja Koné (Dinamo)
    Nicolae Grigore (Rapid)
    Bakary Saré (CFR Cluj)

hope it helps. and I'm curious, what is it this specific info for?

Ianis Zicu started and played his first game today in a 2-0 win against Chonburi FC in the ACL qualifier. It was a neutral game for him today. He was pretty lazy but I hope he changes before the season starts.

Highlight of Zicu's offense which was great, but he couldn't score.

And Lucescu wins the title again in Ucraine... Probably the season's best performance for a Romanian abroad.

Mutu had a good game for Ajaccio.
I was watching MLS last night. There are Albanians in MLS. No Romanians...
