An Arsenal win would have gotten me great odds on Bayern thrashing them in Germany. Shame.

Typical Arsenal, always relying on lucky goals and dodgy refs to gift them to them. ;) :p

Don't think it will be a massive issue for him improving at Arsenal. Fabregas and RVP improved alright.

Wenger has brought him on very well till now.

Give it 3-4 years for him to develop, and if he does we can do a straight swap for him with RVP.

    :D

Wilshere showed enough quality even today.

    He's like Ando and more.

it's funny that pretty much everyone on this board agrees that united desperately needs a ball carrying mid with ideas... which is precisely what ando is lol. if he weren't such a lazy fat f-ck... man oh man...

Wilshere and Arteta got some parity in midfield in the 2nd half.

It was men against boys otherwise.

people lacking first touch, no movement etc

Toni Kroos has really kicked on again - he looks all class to me.

Schweini dominated the game at a jog

    Let's not completely rewrite history

Especially the tie against Juventus was a big upset.

Fabregas, Flamini & Hleb really showed their class.

From another forum. Interesting competition coming from different places these days.

That would be like the old days when this competition was for real champions.

I think it is time for Kroos to seek a new challenge. He's young yet, but he's been a cut above for a year without showing out.

I still don't know what type of midfielder Kroos is.

    Baller extraordinaire.

He is all but a ten. He plays like an old school general would, but further up the pitch. Everything runs through him, sees the field, keeps the ball, presses openings and if they aren't there, he will from time to time make them appear. He really is something else. When he's on, he reminds me of Riquelme but with less strength obviously.

He kinda sucks running with the ball though.

Would function best in a 4-3-3.

15 years ago he would have thrived in a Rui Costa/Riquelme role. I am impressed with the progression he's made into an all round midfielder, putting on mass and being able to play under several guidelines.

so they have come out and said they will keep fighting and try to make the impossible possible.

by my calculations they are looking at about 5 away goals. they rarely score 3 at home much less 5 and then to do it away?

they might as well have finished 3rd and had a try at the Europa League. although quite a few of the teams in the Ro32 would give them trouble as well

So does Scholes. When you make the ball work and you have sufficient quality around you, particularly in the form of runners and dribblers.

He is the type of player who can make an above average wf and constantly put him in position to thrive. He also can do the job as a deeper mid with a gung ho mid ahead of him.

Makes it the whole season then, he has scored against poor teams or when the opposition has not closed down or have been unable to.

Not sure Wilshere is the traditional midfielder, he is more a 8 who loves to maraud forward like Anderson, not sure we need that type of player, but in a 433 he can be good specially if he has better 3 ahead.

    ---------Gundogan-----Carrick-----
    -------------Kroos-----------------

Is better midfield for me, first thing first get Gundogan.

Kroos is a pipe dream. Never gonna happen in a million years. But if we had someone of that ilk, first things first, Fergie will tell the boy, to sit deeper and control the game from there. We'll play 4231 or 442 and only 433 on occasion.

    Kroos will never happen.

We're going to develop Cleverley. For better or for worse, we will know where he is in a couple seasons. I suspect that even if he isn't A class by that time, he'll be a high B player and capable of functioning in the right system as a starter or in an advanced squaddie role.
