The Rhino's started the season off with 2 away games at LA Blues. It was a proper FRI/SAT pairing. Proper as in the Saturday game came first. The bane of lower division schedules is the number of games that are crammed into a single weekend offering zero chance for players to recover.

This one, Im sure thanks to the Rhinos owner, we had 5 days rest in between games....both wins btw. 1-0 in the kickoff. 2-0 on the second. Both games could easily had ended in losses.

There is some talent on this team. Enough to remain near the top during the regular season. It is the HUGE monkey called the playoffs that the Rhino's need to slay this year. It has been 10 years since the last championship.

The USL games are broadcast on http://uslnation.com/.

    Oh yea, F Montreal

If Rochester wins at Dayton, they would come to the home opener at 3-0. I think that will increase the number of walk-up fans. Nice job in LA.

Season ticket sales have been in decline for a number of years so walk ups are important. Still should average over 5k a game nonetheless.

1-0 win away at Dayton. Coming home with 3-0 record, all shutouts.

Not dominating by any means but are looking like they could go far this year.

Still, they are 3-0 for the first time in a long time. This really could help the attendance.

1-0 victory over a tired but pressing Charlotte team. The goal was an own goal, so the Rhinos have scored 4 goals in 4 games. Good for a 4-0 record, but I am not sure how many causal fans want to come out and see a 1-0 match. Looks like the idea that the defence comes around before the forwards may be the case here. Over 7k for the announced crowd.

Also the stadium now has real locker rooms.

Drew Cost was USLPro player of the week. He joined Jack Traynor on the squad. This weekend the Rhinos are at Charlotte and at Charleston. If they emerged from this trip 6-0, that would be great! I would take 5-1 as the more difficult match is the second one in two nights at Charleston.

Nice wins so far. If one takes a step back and looks what the Rhinos have done, they have to be content. 5 away matches, 5 victories. They have taken two at LA, one in Dayton, one in Charlotte and one in Charleston, not a bad haul. Of the 19 remaining matches, 12 are at home. Including a stretch of 8 out of 10 to finish the season. If the offense can start to convert the chances that they are creating, this team looks like it could really do something.

your keeper had an incredible match Saturday here in Charleston. We had 22 shots on goal, he had 10 saves. We had 12 corners to your 2. it was just one of those days.

If he isn't named player of the week, you should demand a recount!

I've watched all their games (except the one not shown in Charlotte). Defensively they have been great. Nicht's height gives him command of the box like I haven't seen since Pat Onstad. Remember the 1998 team yeilded only 15 goals in 28 games with 15 shutouts.

What I don't like is thier lack of possession. They do create chances, but they can't seem to connect on passes starting from the back. Even in their lone home game against Charlotte, the Eagles controlled the ball, which surprised me considering they played the night before in Harrisburg.
IF that ever clicks, look out.

Seems to be a three team race this year with Orlando and Charleston.

He was named player of the week. Good call. Troy Roberts was also named to the team.

Next match is Friday evening at home against Dayton. The Dutch Lions have 2 points from 5 matches.

In addition, the Rhinos will play the
Brooklyn Italians (NPSL) in the 2nd round of the US Open Cup. Brooklyn Italians traveled to Maine to defeat GPS Portland Phoenix 3-2 on Tuesday. The game will be on 22 May at Sahlen Stadium.

1-1 home draw against Dayton. Disappointing match. The Rhinos came out listless and credit to Dayton for punishing them. Official attendance was 7414. The Rhinos now have their US Open Cup match tomorrow evening. They better not be sluggish for that one!

The Rhinos were lucky to get any points in this game. If this game was played on paper it would have been a 2 to 3 goal Rhinos victory. Unfortunately, you have to play the game.

So far this season, new coach Jesse Meyers, has given us fans a new look Rhino team. We are not stuck watching a single strategy that plods along game after game. Meyers has changed tactics for each game and changes it up athe half if it isn't working.

The Rhinos came out flat and passion less. Tactically a 4-5-1 with Roselund the running the show from deep in midfield. More often than not he would get the play going only for it to breakdown before the final third. Brito, the lone target, ran around alot per usual but once again failed to hook up with the midfield. Too make things worse, Mcmanus started pushing up as a forward (which rumor has it drew the ire of coach Meyers) caused a weakening the midfield.

Dayton exploited this with some hard work from the tall blond striker , Bartels? The goal came from some good ball work ending up with Bardsley wide open in the box center of goal.

The Rhinos pushed for a goal from the onset of the second half. The tying goal while a textbook header (down and away) was the result of a gift from the linesman. The Rhinos's were awarded a dubious corner kick. The Dayton goalie went down low to his right to save a shot that was just outside the post. As he was gathering up the ball the linesman from the other side of the field waved his flag frantically for a corner. How the linesman was able to make that call through the posts and netting is a curious thing indeed. I was on the correct side of the goal. No corner for me.

In the end the deeper bench for the Rhino's saved them as is evident in most of the games so far this season.

    3-0 win over the
Brooklyn Italians. Sort of a physical match with Rochester bearing the brunt of quite a few hard fouls, including a straight red card in the second half. They now play Philadelphia Union, not NE Revolution like the past who knows how many years, in the 3rd round. Goals by
Tam McManus, Conor Chinn, and JC Banks.
Now three more matches by next Tuesday. Two away at Harrisburg and Dayton on Friday and Saturday. Then Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Three games in 5 days. The last being against a MLS team is not a fun stretch. Also Harrisburg is playing well. I would love 4 points from the two USL matches, but 2 would be acceptable in my book. I would love a win in Philadelphia.

A 1-0 loss at Harrisburg and a 2-2 draw at Dayton with a very different line-up. I think that the Rhinos have a chance tonight against Philadelphia, it will not be easy, but there is a chance.

Was at the game. Philly tore apart the back line. Defenders couldn't jump, I guess. The over the top balls were only mildly dangerous when the rain set in. Philly had the physical edge on them, that's for sure.

Was the goal taken back for offside really offside from your opinion?

Eh. I was behind the goal, not a great spot to call it. The linesman shouted back at the player and typically when they do that they're confident on their call. It looked like he was on but again, I was at the worst angle possible to say so.

That goal, if McManus capitalizes on Konopka's turnover (Earls played an awesome ball, btw) and someone blanked baaad in the second half on a counter inside the 18.... Oh and if they learned to defend out of the air... Would have been a different game.

Wrote a quasi-review here, if anyone is interested: http://soccersubjectively.blogspot.com/2012/05/day-4-sstas.html

    Here are the goals:

    (first two)

    (third)

Nicht actually got his fingers on the PK but he just dove without a step. If he stepped he would have had it.
