We match up so well with Ecuador. There is a good chance we get points in Quito.

That said, they can beat us as many other teams beat us... ...in the air on corners and set plays. That is what I am most concerned about. They do a lot better job than us in crossing the ball in the air.

I like Rueda and wish him good luck and will be happy for him if he wins since the Ecuador fans hate him so much. BUT I think Pekerman takes him to school. I could be wrong.

Also looking at that squad there are more players that play in Mexico than Mexico's Seleccion!:geek:
Edit: Okay there is not as many as Mexico's current list but still. A lot of players who play in Mexico.

Last time that we won in Quito were in 1996 when Tino Asprilla scored the only goal in the 72nd minute to give us a 0-1 victory, same qualifiers that we qualified for our last WC

After this came 0-0 in 2002 qualifiers, 1-2 lost in 2006 qualifiers and another 0-0 in 2010 qualifiers....Not the best record.

Muriel will debut with a goal this game and give us 3 points :)

I am as pumped with the Falcao thing as everyone else but he really needs to score or help us win at least 3-4 points in these 2 games. We have a top squad and we spent so much on our new coach that we better do well. We were a better team than either Peru/Ecuador with shitty coaches like Maturana, Bolillo and Pinto then with this guy making 2 million a year he needs to prove why he is getting this money.

Big thing in these games is our CBs. I really hope Yepes and Perea do not have another Copa America 2007 moment. It's time to replace them especially Perea in the starting line up. We just need to see if Pekerman has the balls to do this before it's too late and cost us too many points. These two cost us 5 points and Leonel his job.

I think one of them might be starting but certainly not both of them.

Moderators, Someone is going to have to merge the other Ecuador thread with this one.

Anyway, if I were Pekerman I would just sit down Guarin & Yepes go back to the Mexico match lineup. Aldo Leao to me brought a calmness to the team and had some nice possession at the end. Even had a nice shot on goal that was better than any of Guarin's shots.
Yepes was owned out there in Peru and I am afraid he will get owned in Quito even worse due to the altitude. We need Zuniga on the right if he is healthy. If not Zapata should be the right CB and Aquivaldo the left CB with Perea out wide.

And don't give me any of this Zapata looked bad in Spain crap. He can't do any worse than Yepes did yesterday.

One thing that was a little disappointing in the Peru match was the fact we just did not know what to do on counter attacks. Guys like Cuadrado and Pabon tripped over their own feet or made a pass directly to the defenders, etc. They usually are better than that.
I hope during practice this week they work on their transition game and their quick counters.

Colombia matchs up very well with Ecuador. They don't need points they are 6th with 6 points after 5 games. 1 less than us playing at home. A tie would not be bad for either side. I don't think they are going to go out there trying to score 10 on us. They will play smart and we will as well. It's going to be a close game. I say it ends in a tie or a 1-0 win going either way. Either way neither result would kill either side.

Just hope it's not the cluster funk the last game was.

I hope to see Muriel get his first minutes in for Colombia. This kid last 10 minutes could do some serious damage

Guarin wasn't perfect. Most of his shots were skied and he was beginning to look like his pre-2010 self with all those errant passes. But his presence was essential in starting most of our counterattacks including James' goal. He also did an unspeakable job giving our defenders rest and much needed possession of the ball by taking on defenders and earning fouls.

Granted, all that may be moot depending on his injury. I did see him walking on the sidelines afterwards so I'll keep my hopes up. If not, Aldo did do a much better job than he had against Mexico.

As for Yepes...what can i say that hasn't been said already? Many of us have noted his decline for months now. Whenever we face an opponent with a striker or winger like Guerrrero, with some ability to create danger on their own and speed to boot, Yepes looks a man his age. Ecuador has 2 of them in Valencia and Montero. Our style of play puts him in several one-on-one situations and it's become very hard to watch.

In the past we could at least fall back on his leadership and ability to organize the backline. I don't even see that anymore. He looked like he didn't belong on the field and the rest seemed to inherit that general nervousness. I lost count of how many clearances required 2 or more touches.

In short, I'm lobbying for Zapata next to Aquivaldo.

Perea is way worse than Yepes.... but that is not saying much. It's like AIDs is worse than Herpes but neither of that shit is cureable !!!

Ese es un partido en casa, they DO need the points, lee los foros Ecuatorianos, quieren cruzificar a Rueda y la prensa general tambien, incluso la eliminqtoria pasada ellos le empataron a Arg alla.

Creeme Ecuador necesita esos 3 puntos

Neither should be starting! I hope Pekerman stays way from that 5-4-1 while defending.

I thought the game was on Wednesday but it's next Sunday. He and Falcao should be at 100% by then hopefully Guarin as well.

I really like the Pabon, James, Guarin, Falcao play. They link up well
