    Well, ladies and gentlemen we are back to square one(how time flies, does it not?). The qualifiers kickoff for us on Friday against Chile. It is the same format that we played from 2002(minus Brazil that is). It won't be easy but we all hope that Alejandro Sabella will lead this team in a new direction.

    Last time we played Chile at home in the qualifiers, Roman produced two wonderful FK's that froze the Chilean GK when they hit the back of the net.

    So, I guess we can talk here about formations, starting lineups, the game and the post game in here.

    You can go ahead and exclude Demichellis due to a head injury.

    2310 GMT. There will be live streams nearer the kickoff time.

    Jaime is that a 3-5-2 then from Borghi ? Does he expect the same from Sabella.

    It would be nice to see Pastore introduced at some point and why Otamendi keeps making the lineup is annoying.

    Yes it is.
    In the middle we'll have only 1 defensive midfielder (Carmona). Isla and Beausejour are "carrileros", both like attacking constantly, but Isla can also play as right back. Isla is our faster player. Beausejour was "11" (left forward) with Bielsa.

    Valdivia and Fernández will play together after maaaaaaany time. I don't remember the last time thet both played together. Bielsa usually played with 1 "10" and 3 forwards, but Borghi changed this system.
    Borghi use only 2 forwards, but the midfielders are technically good.

    Probably Chile we'll have ball possession during many many minutes. For Borghi, ball possession is the key factor.

    Suazo and Pinilla, both are "9", both are strong, and now, with Pinilla starting, we'll have more cabezazo ofensivo.

    I think Eduardo Vargas will play in the 2nd half: he's very fast, and he scores goals often (just remember the 1rst half against Spain some weeks ago).

    Thank you Jaime.

    I don't think anyone will underestimate your team especially after that debacle against Spain when you were cheated again by the referee.

    We'll certainly need to keep tabs on Valdivia a very tricky player indeed.

    Enjoy the game and may the best side win. :)

    You're welcome.:)

    If the rain continues, the field won't be good for technical players like Messi, Valdivia and Fernández.

    I just read in diario Olé de Argentina that drainage system in the stadium isn't good:

    I take it that this won't be televised in the states? I'm checking everywhere and I'm not getting anything.

    Streams would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    I never understood why the WCQ are in Pay-per-view, yet the World Cup is free. Hopefully, there will be streams available.

    Update: This is the confirmed lineup for today:

    ANDUJAR;
    ZABALETA, OTAMENDI, BURDISSO, ROJO;
    SOSA, BRAÑA, BANEGA, DI MARIA;
    MESSI, HIGUAIN

    It is frustrating!

    They started to do this in 1995, because before that the qualifiers used to be broadcasted in the States with Tony Tirado and Norberto Longo, and then with Andres Cantor and Norberto Longo.

    I believe pay-per-view is an option via DirecTV and Dish.

    Guys,guys guys, just come back 15-20 minutes before kickoff and whatever you need will be taken care of.

    Uruguay is beating the crap out of Bolivia 3-1 right now.

    And we only drew against them during the Copa America? Let's not start with the ridicule we took in La Paz in 2009.

    The only starter who played against Chile at the start of the last eliminatorias is Messi. Talk about recambio!

    And during that time we had four coaches. Says it all.

    Pastore, in his short NT career has had 3 different coaches. And he got called-up to the World Cup having only played one match (an unofficial match at that) with Argentina against Catalunya.

    The weird part? Diego was the one that gave Pastore the most starts/chances (versus Catalunya, Canada, sub role versus Greece, Mexico and Germany).

    Messi did not play against Canada and vs Catalunya I am not sure what the starting lineup was(off top of my head).

    As for Pastore starting or not,I think the managers want to use Banega because he is a better passer of the ball than Pastore, little back flicks do not mean you are a better passer. Banega does a little more. But sooner or later we will see Banega/Pastore on the pitch, but as long as Sosa performs well under Sabella, then I have no real issues.

    Thing is though, Pastore should have had his chance by now. I thought Sosa did a decent job against Nigeria and I understand he's one of Sabella's "boys" and that he'll get called-up. But he's constantly overshadowed, that he doesn't actually get a chance (Pastore) to prove himself.

    In the end, as long as the team wins (first and foremost) and plays well, I'm happy with that.

    Totally agree, we need to win, that comes before anything. However I want to have a stepping stone(Is that right term?) for the future. Chile is a tough team, even though they are limited with their stars being out, they will test us. If we do well against them, then I am happy.
