Anyways, most fouls mean a player lost a battle or had to go beyond the rules of the game to win the battle. That's why it's a foul. Mostly, they come from 3 situations: a player would get beat but fouls someone (bad bc he was beat); a player goes for a 50-50, loses the battle and fouls someone (bad); or "professional" fouls. So.... yes fouls generally mean the foul-committer lost out in some way. At the very least it just means the fouler gave up a free kick, which is bad.
