From what I've read / heard, I thought they just canceled the cermonial ground breaking because some wanted city and local officals weren't available. Do we know for sure that the real ground breaking hasn't taken place? I'd drive by to check, but it's 8 hrs just to get there. LOL

Nothing. Drive by sight everyday on way to and from work. This week there were 2 tour buses parked inside the fence of the former Trib Amphitheater.

Shit. Almost mid-May. Dropped in expecting to see pictures of bulldozers. Please tell me this wasn't cancelled.

Seems to me there are about 104 days left in the USL Pro season (about 95 left in Pittsburgh's home schedule). Seems like the prospects of playing in the new yard this summer aren't very good.

I saw this article a couple weeks ago

    http://www.post-gazette.com/stories...ompletes-financing-for-soccer-stadium-632326/

The article is dated April 20
I imagine that since they know they wont be done by August, they likely aren't in a huge rush.

As much as I am sure everyone would like to be in by the end of the season, I feel that rushing and opening it before it is completely finished would be a bad thing.

That grand opening needs to impress the casual fan and entice them to come back. with time everything can be polished and shined (and checked to make sure everything works!)

When Atlanta opened their stadium, the restrooms and concession weren't ready (they had port-a-jons and pop up tents for concession) , there was gravel where concrete should have been. Sure the field was nice but I'm sure a lot of people who were experiencing a game for the first time went away disappointed.

Most of us here would go watch a match in a rock quarry if it was our only choice, but the casual (or curious) fan might remember the score of the match, but if they have to pay good money for sub par services, they will remember that.

Until and unless they cut the ribbon, you can always say that, I guess. These things are notoriously difficult to do.

Well, beyond the fact that the Riverhounds stadium will already be the biggest it possibly can be at that location...

BTW: Where exactly at Station Square is this being built?

Because the plot of land they're building it on will barely hold the stadium they have planned.

And because you seem to have incredibly naive ideas about exactly what it takes to build an MLS-worthy stadium and to actually get into MLS. It's not 2002 anymore.

Just need to build a barge so the north stands can float.

Being so close to the river, what is the flooding potential there? How high is the ground? I have been to Pittsburgh a few times and stayed at the Sheraton at Station Square on most occasions, but it's been a while and I can't remember.

I guess you would say north west of Station. Towards the bridge the Parkway is on, which I think is the Ft. Pitt bridge.
