Always hoped for the Riverhounds to create their own Stadium. The Pittsburgh area deserves it and the local soccer fans deserve it to. I hope it happens. By the way aren't you guys lucky that you won't have to travel and face the Rhinos again in the second round again if you win your 1st round match of the US Open Cup.

Looking at a map of Pittsburgh right now. Would this potential Riverhounds stadium be across the Pirates & Steelers stadiums? Or more North or South of it along the Monongahela River?

I hope they are able to get that location. It's a great location. With fairly easy access to the Parkway and also 279. It's been awhile since I've been over in that are, isn't there a parking garage near station square? That's my only concern would be parking. And not that far from Pipers. Which is also good.

From checking on Google, it didn't look like there was enough space for a stadium. Hope I'm wrong though.

Your not wrong. Not sure how a stadium fits there. Very fit in current stage with little other room. But as I'm told its true and close to happening.

Was home at the end of last week and had hoped to drive by the area. But didn't get to. I still think you could fit a small 6k stadium there. If they can fit a small stadium in there, I think it would be great. For the first time they would be able to draw from multiple area around the city. It would near both the parkway and 279.

If they replace parking to the east, they can fit a small WakeMED-style stadium there.

I hope your right, but I just don't see how its possible. Way too narrow. Maybe a field, but seats?

Any new news on this stadium? The concert stage and seating are still standing at Station Square. Seemed too good to be true?

It talked about maybe having a couple of colleges play there. I was thinking of some of the smaller schools in the area that this would work for. I don't think CCAC has a team any more. But if they did, this would be great for them. The only other two I could think of would be Point Park and Carlow. Carlow currently plays out in the burbs where Pitt used to play. It's a nice field, but this would be closer and better. Point Park seems like a natural fit, they are just across the river and their men's coach is an assistant coach with the Riverhounds. It would be great if they could have a pre-season tourney of the area D1 schools (Pitt, Duquesne, Robert Morris) and maybe bring someone in like Penn State or WVU.

Pitt has a new on campus stadium too! This is great for city of Pittsburgh and W PA soccer. Which to be honest on the youth level is far behind areas like Ohio/ Eastern PA, Michigan, etc. Hopefully these facilities both will help kick start a stronger movement for youth development. Maybe Pitt will actually start fielding a team that can be competitive on the national level.

Unfortunately the new Hounds stadium won't be open to take advantage of hosting a US open cup game this year. With changes just annouced there is a better chance they could host a home game. How cool would it be to have Crew or DC or Philly come there? If it was Crew I'd drive over from C-bus fo sho.

Stadium construction to start in March with completion projected to be mid-July in time for the RH's July 18 home game.

Well it's Feb. and Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter. So I'm guessing it's another month or two till they break ground. So don't really expect any news till then.

It's now April. Has construction started/is there any sign of it starting, or do we have to file this under the nice artwork category?

Kinda thinking the same thing. Groundbreaking was cancelled for last weekend. With the incredibly mild winter/spring a good head start could have been accomplished.
