Well ... I read thru the last 2 pages today, and found you delighted with the game. Good for you guys, you needed to win something, even if it was only a superclasico. No arruguen en Brazil now ...

If, and only if, you play the game, you know that the mistakes that caused the River goals came from the bench. It is as simple as that.

What has changed in the past 4 weeks under La Volpe?
- Play the ball from the back
- Play with 3 in the back
- Use achique (offside trap)
- Zone marking instead of man to man in set pieces.
- No playmaker = Gago carrying the construction = Ledesma as the DM which he is not.
- No surprise in attack ... two wingers (Datolo and Calvo) opening the field but as visible and expected as inefective. (How many times did Calvo reach the end line?)
- The burning of youngsters, given roles that are not their natural.
- Take Cardozo out his best position, left midfield
- The subs ... what a headache.


I heard La Volpe's press conference on Friday. In a passage of it, you can sense his naivity and lack of understanding of Argentinian footy. He was "protesting" how players hold shirts and rivals inside the box in set pieces. That in "Europe" this doesn't happen. I bring this up because his starting concept of how the game is played is what makes him decide how his team needs to play.

Zone marking in set pieces? In Argentinian footy? Boca has received 5 goals of 7 in 3 games due to it. 3 defenders? You need a fast last man, which Cata is not. Which Silvestre is not either to chase attackers wide on the right. Silvestre had clean games until yesterday. Offside trap? Look at River's 2nd and 3rd, and the ones they missed due to lack of quality. While Farias was playing the "hook", Higuain was free to run thru.

Taking Gago out of the DM and giving him the role of creating the football in the mid is a role he can probably do. But the team has no real DM to back him ... a player that has his ability to read the game and the timing to cut advances. This unbalances the team ...

Using Calvo and Datolo wide open cut the surprise in attack. Calvo hasn't reached the end line once in the games he has played under La Volpe. He always did under Coco because he would fill the spaces coming from behind as surprise. Datolo ... used as a winger and solely as a winger limits his ability and vision to the sideline. All game long, La Volpe would demand Datolo to get on the side. Boxed there. To try to go thru Ferrari and Tuzzio and cross. No surprise. No creativity.

Neri ... fast and talented to cut inside with his most favorable foot, when starting on the left, has lost all his spark. And is replaced with a youngster!

I could go on and on with things he has changed and which have had an effect on the team's performance. Most important is the stubborn thought that players need to adapt to a tactical scheme instead of using a tactical scheme that maximizes the players he has at his disposal. And this is very serious, as he is burning out youngsters to fill those gaps. Not giving them the time to blend into 1st team action.

The end result is 2 won, 1 tied, 2 lost. 6 goals scored and 7 received. And now that Palermo will be out 6-8 weeks ...

This Boca team can be coached by "remote control". Not with La Volpe's programming. Any coach would play the team as before and keep beating everyone. And have the right subs to fill the injuries/refresh legs.

The gayinas should enjoy this win over LaVolpe as much as they can. You've accomplished a lot. Your now in first place with a game in hand. Oh no wait, thats BOCA I'm thinking about.
