Yeah I watched him a bit at Hercules, he didn't impress me but that team was a trainwreck and he was still able to score goals, so he could still have something left. Perhaps, if healthy, the motivation of ending his career in Argentina on a high note plus less demand as he wouldn't be expected to be a regular starter would allow him to be effective.

Any updates on the trezeguet situation? Even if he's only half the player he once was he could still be a great signing, I just wish you guys wouldnt sign players i like, i always loved watching him and now im going to have to hate him if he comes to river ;)

What about crespo? Could he still not do a job for you?

I'm going to assume we can't afford Crespo.

I'm a Crespo fan but he has always gone wherever he could get the highest wages, that matters to him more than anything else and it's one of the reasons he moved around so much in Europe. He's a mercenary. I'd love him back at River but there's alternatives who actually care about the club as much as they do their bank accounts.

Look at the link above posted by locoxriver, Crespo is going to Bulgaria...

You know if Crespo had wanted to finish his career in MLS or something i wouldn't mind, but going to Bulgaria is just absurd. I never thought he'd come back to River, but I also never thought he'd go to Bulgaria

He was at the Quilmes-River match last year and he was talking about how he still follows the teams and goes back to Argentina every year... I'm thinking, would it have killed you to come for 6 months and help us avoid relegation? You claim to be worried about the club, yet you had every thing in your power to return to River multiple and he decided to play for Genoa and then Parma Now he goes to Bulgaria of all places. I mean I can't believe he values money that much that he'd stoop to such a low level of football

Once again I'm not demanding he come back to River, but if you want a big pay day go to Russia or MLS or Mexico, some place with a good level of football

On the other hand... IF he had come back to River in 2007 after the Copa America as he originally said, he could have played 2 or 3 years and established himself as one of the biggest idolos of all-time then gone to Bulgaria or UAE or whereever... what might have been

Looks like Rolfi isn't coming. He says he's fine in America.

Trezeguet, on the other hand, seems closer every time..

I would have preferred Rolfi to Trezeguet because he is much more versatile and he can create a bit, and his long range shots and free kicks would be dangerous, while Trezeguet especially at his age, requires service

Obviously I would still be very happy if Trezeguet comes, it will be interesting to see how Almeyda tries to play him and Cavenaghi together, but I think they can do it, Cave used to make good partnerships with other "9s" such as Salas and Bichi Fuertes amongst others in the past

Still not convinced he's that much of a difference maker at this point and we could definitely use more creative reinforcements but he's still a proven winner and one of the best poachers of the last few decades.

Glad to see a guy like that motivated by more than money too.

We'll have to see how he does, but for now I'm happy with him. There are not too many others that would have offered more than Trezeguet. Remember, the other prospective reinforcements that had been mentioned in that position were Obolo and Larrivey.. who would you prefer?

Also, I'm surprised he's more of a River fan than I thought. Not only is he losing money to return, but apparently he was at el Monumental vs. Belgrano the day of the descenso.

One thing worth noting about Trezeguet is that he's 6'3" (190cm). We haven't had that tall a player in a while, so it'll be interesting to see how that might change things.

If Trezeguet still brings it, he's a great signing. He can complement Cavenaghi very well, because he thrives in the penalty area and allows Cavenaghi to play withdrawn, where he is more comfortable.

Rumor from some of the River journalists on Twitter is they're now interested in Leo Ponzio again. I like it. Not only can he play the #5 position and help out Cirigliano if necessary, but he can also play the #2 or #6 in case Maidana leaves.

Me too Ponzio is Zaragozas captain and at 29 at his peak experienced with the seleccion and he knows the pressures at River. It seems hes on a 700000 euro contract which the Spaniards want to half.Id say a small transfer and a half million a year contract will get him.If Maidana stays it will be a decent piece of work by the kaiser

Diego Turnes: “Trezeguet va a cobrar por tres años lo que un jugador de River cobra por dos.”

I'm liking Trezeguet more and more. It's becoming evident how much he really loves River.

Ponzio home in Argentina tells tells the press he wants to return to River. The Zaragoza captain(29)I think would be an excellent signing just what we need in the midfield. If we can hold on to Maidana we would be nicely strenthened for the second half of the season

I've always liked Ponzio, people were too harsh with him IMO.

    Leo Ponzio:

In other news, Mauro Diaz is being linked to San Martin (SJ), Alexis Ferrero to Atletico Rafaela, and Adalberto Roman to Palmeiras.

I too give the thumbs up if Ponzio signs. Like loco stated, I think a lot of River fans are too harsh on him. Hell, there's even this one River fan on Twitter that's called him a "muerto". River fans should be elated that a guy like him is willing to resign money from playing Europe to come and play in the "B". Unlike former players such as Crespo, Aimar, and Saviola.

Alexis Ferrero is now being linked to Veracruz (MEX), Rangers (CHI), and Atletico Nacional (COL). He has the freedom to choose his destination, as River have no objection to loaning him out.
