Seems like Ramons had a change of heart and Rojas will start not Cirigliano. He seems to have a policy of starting only one pibe.I was thinking about this and cant remember a more experienced River team in a long time. Just look at the line up Barovero27 Mercado 26 Roman25 Bottinelli28. Sanchez28 Ponzio31 now Rojas27 Vangioni25 Lanzini 20 Trezeguet35 Mora25.
Its good to have a very experienced team, but it is a bit worrying to me that only one player in our starting line-up if from our inferiores. In the past, even during our tough periods, we always had lots of players who developed at River, even if they were veterans. Hopefully, this doesn't become a trend.
Abal was horrendous tonight, but we got the job done. 3 important points, leaving us up top with Lanus.
River jugo bien por treinta minutos pero despues del lindo gol de Trezeguet malissimo. But the three points are valuable. If anyone doubted the value of Ponzio just look at the last hour of this awful game. The gol was great Rojas and Vangioni did well in the first half but like their team mates played bad in the second where Ramons loss was felt.Still three points and Tigre home next week.
3 points are 3 points, but I wasn't happy with the team in the second half. As la saeta rubia said, Roman's absence was felt in the second half, lets hope its nothing serious. Gonzalez Pirez continues to look a shadow of the pibe who played so well for the seleccion sub 20. Ponzio's absence was also huge. I would have put Cirigliano in for Rojas in the last 15 minutes to try and keep the ball. Luckily, Leo will be back next week in what will be a tough game against Tigre I was really impressed by Trezeguet again. He looks close to 100% physically and his mental game is so far and ahead of everyone else on the field. What a smart player
I thought maybe it was only me who thought this since no one else I was watching with felt it. It seemed like someone's ankle had to get broken to call a foul by the end. He got gun shy after giving out so many yellows so fast. A win is a win and there was some positive to it. Love to see David score, gotta keep him on the field and out of the trainers room by any means necessary. Mora was pretty much invisible again as was Sanchez, they attacked the left side the whole first half though to pretty good succes though. Lanzini had bright spots but the kid has a ways to go. The defense was great again, I hope Romans not too badly hurt, you could see on his face that something was hurting at one point, Gonzalez Pirez was alright in his time but is not the answer. Rojas had a good game and may have been the bet player out there. Vangioni was good again on both halves of the field. A problem that arose is they seemed so uninspired in the second half, I don't know how much was tactical but its hard to turn it off them try to turn it back on again and i thought another goal would be there for the taking but it wasn't. Iturbe was a nice spark off the bench I look forward to more of him.
Its so clear why Ramon was so insistent on Fabbro. Lanzini has contributed very little in these first two matches. It will be interesting to see how long Ramon will stick with him. I wouldn't mind seeing Mauro Diaz being given a run out. His game is a bit different than Lanzini's, but I think he deserves a chance after playing well during the summer. Eventually however, I think Ramon will opt for Iturbe and play 3 up front.
I agree. I like Lanzini, but the guy goes 100mph at all times and is more of an attacking midfielder than a playmaker. Sometimes a pause is necessary, and I think Mauro Diaz is better in that aspect. I was hoping Mauro would get some minutes today because I think he was what we needed to control the ball better in the latter part of the second half. Vangioni, Sanchez, and Lanzini are all very vertical players who have an accelerated game. Sometimes - like today - you just need to control the ball and retain more possession.
Totally agree we desperately needed someone to slow things down in the second half but without Ponzio there wasnt anyone.I also agree with Gaucho Trezeguet was immense but the performances of Mora and especially Sanchez were bad.Mauro Diaz needs to get a chance soon as Lanzini in many many games has shown only a one dimensional side to his game.
I couldnt understand that either. After the gol which was a brillaint move they lost control and only hung on in the end.Ok Abal didnt do us any favours and Lanzini has no pause mode but apart from Trezeguet and Bottinelli everyone else disimproved.I have to say Bottinelli is playing very well as was Roman.I will excuse Gonzalez Pires on being very young but Mercado in the last half hour was a disaster.
Bad news. It looks like Roman has a very small tear and will be out for 2 or 3 weeks. http://www.ole.com.ar/river-plate/futbol/desgarron_0_868113421.html Lets hope he recovers quickly and that Gonzalez Pirez can put in some good performances. God, we miss Pezzella!!!!
Yes he is certainly missed. Fingers crossed that he comes out of the injury as he was before with no loss of speed (although his brain is faster than most). By the way where is he being treated ? Players here in England with such injuries usually end up in America at a specialist centre which has the best outcomes for such problems. Indeed they come from around the world and from a variety of sporting disciplines.
Well he's not in the states, he's at River he goes and trains with his teammates every day as he's been doing since he was injured. He was operated on last season as soon as he was injured, as is the case with cruciate ligament injuries. I mean, I'm not trying to downplay the injury, but cruciate ligaments are very common and despite all the problems we have in Argentina, we do have very good doctors and it is much better for him to be around the club so that the team doctors and trainers, and most importantly, Ramon can monitor his progress. Not to mention, for the morale of the kid it is best that he is around the club and his friends who he's been playing with for years and years and can also be around his family. It's got to be quite difficult for the kid, right when he was coming into his own he suffered the terrible injury. When he came off against Rafaela, I think that was one of the saddest thing I've seen in football. Fuerza German!
US National Team interested in calling up Rogelio Funes Mori? http://www.riverplate.com/Noticias/...i-tentado-jugar-seleccion-estados-unidos.html Goleador del mundial 2014??
This team will thrive against opponents leaving us space on counterttacks and will struggle against teams parking the bus. The characteristics of our players somehow dictates that.
I found this in another thread I had been active in. Jorge Ramos & Banda @ESPN_JorgeRamos Jurgen #Klismann llamo a Rogelio Funes Mori (#River) y Michael Hoyos (#EDP) y les pregunto si aceptarian ser convocados para USA .#USMNT. Nevermind, looks like loco beat to me it.
How desperate is Jurgen? LOL LOL Landon Donavan goes on a long vacation and he turns to FM9? What is that other thread, I'd love to see what other people are saying about this
It was a thread about the Hoyos' brothers. There is no activity just yet, but US forum is very active, so news should filter out soon. https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...yos-in-argentina.721833/page-26#post-27264037 I know Michael speaks English fluently without even a hint of an accent, and I have heard Funes Mori speaks English but poorly(Might of forgotten it by now) but speaks it. Michael is a US citizen, and he probably will make the jump tbh He has no shot with Argentina. FM,I think he will hold out for a little longer. But I am not even sure if he has an active visa or a green card(don't quote me on the green card I remember reading it somewhere).
Why is it desperate? Seems like he's doing his due diligence and reaching out to any eligible players to gauge their interest which most competent managers would do. How far is this kid from a full Argentina call up? I know he's talented and I've seen him a few times with River Plate but not enough to know if he's on the NT radar.
Its not dumb in theory. It's creative, but a bit of a reach for resoures. He is FAR from a call up. He is a struggling player who desperately needs a change of scenery. By now I'm more unhappy with River for fumbling repeatedly on his transfers than him for losing his form as drastically as he has. He is always offsides, runs with his head down and thu isnt a passer, and just lost any ability he had to finish. He's still a good athlete with alot of potential as a player, but if the MLS would take him too as well as la selección Id be all smiles
