Ugh, it's too bad that penalty ever happened (I have my doubts if it was even intentional to begin with). We never seemed to fully recover and play the same way after that. Hopefully we up our game again in the second half: a win today will leave in 4th place as our final position in the tournament (never thought I'd be happy with that ).

Another topic, but Lamela needs to learn how to use his right leg. I love the kid, but when he's stuck on 1-on-1's with a rival defender, he always ends up juking the way that's more comfortable for his left leg. If the rivals figure that out, they're gonna begin stopping him every time.

    agree with all you said.

i'm also sad about the last minute line-up changes. today is probably Affranchino's last game in a River shirt as Udinese are probably going to ake him. Would have liked to have seen him play, especially because Arano is awful

Do you know if he's on the bench? I wonder if he'll come-in in the second half?

Edit: Ballon came in for Acevedo, I believe.

Edit #2: Gooooool de Roman! The Paraguayan makes up for the penalty he committed in the first half. The score is now much more fair.

Edit #3: 30 seconds later, a penalty on Pavone. Se viene el tercero? Vamos millo!

    Edit #4: Goooooool Pavone! Lanus: 1 - River: 3

Wow what a start!!! Guys we are starting to look like the old River!

Even Ballon is looking better. Hes actually getting involved and making some decent passes

And Roman, this guy really has been a find. This boy can jump!

I agree, the guy is great with his headers.. maybe we should start using him as a forward. :p

In all seriousness, I too am glad to see the team finally playing like this again. Now I'm only hoping we can see Villalva for atleast a bit (that is, if he's even on the bench).

Gooooooool 4-1 Pavone! Kind of funny that we don't hear the Lanus fans singing "el que no salta se va a la b" any more.

Oh, how I missed these goleadas.. I had gotten so used to just winning 1-0 when we got the 3 points.

Now Lanus fans are leaving 15 minutes early and the River fans sing "el que no saltaaa, abadonooooo" and "parecen boca la puta que lo pariooooo!" :D

good end to the season. I really wanted Pavone to get a hat trick, although atleast he does finish as the goleador.

Now, the important thing is to hold on to these kids no matter what, and we have the structure to fight for the title next tournament with one or two refuerzos

I said 30 points at the start would be acceptable and we got to 31.JJ has done very well and now Passarella has to do his stuff keeping Lamela,Pereyra and Funes Mori if possible. Also i think Ballon will do much better it isnt easy moveing from a Peruvian provincial team to BA.I dont want to see many newcomers only top class players. This squad has enormous potential but the hinchada need patience. One worry is the opld problem with crosses is still affecting us despite Maidana,Ferrero and Roman doing well.Carrizo has to dominate the small area better

Ahh, that was great to watch; the team really needed this, a great result in a tough field, and hopefully they'll build on this throughout the preseason.

It's too bad Pavone didn't net a hat-trick though, as well as the fact that Hoyos got a free half-hour on the field (he should have gotten his second yellow on the penalty, and should have been sent off again about 10 minutes later).

You guys know the drill: new year, new thread.

Thanks everyone for making it such a successful year here on BS. This thread was our second most-visited "River news & comments" thread (behind 2005), despite the fact that it wasn't exactly the team's best year.

    Here's to a better 2011!
