i also saw these players lose 7-0 against bayern munchen. they looked like an mls quality side. just because they're in europe doesn't mean they're football gods.

That's a rather shortsighted view of things.

The overall sample size indicates the Swiss are rather strong in this age group with this particular group of players.

They will be the team to beat in this group, IMO.

Well yes they did get blown out by Bayern, but as we saw yesterday Bayern are really good. Not to mention those players did eliminate Man U from the champions league.

Yup, they were runner's up to Spain in the UEFA U-21 championship last year.

it's not shortsighted, just looking at things from all sides and not automatically fearing them only because they qualified out of europe. the interesting thing to me is that they have several players from that basel side, and while i haven't seen them play, i would guess they play at least somewhat similar to basel. i don't see most swiss players having the abilities to play any other way.

that being said, looking at the bayern game, chepo's system is eerily similar to bayerns this season, both have a target forward whose only job is to tap the ball in most of the time, heavily relies on attack from the flanks, the central mids have similar roles of attacking, shooting outside the box, etc. very liberal with attacks from the outside defense. another similarity is the attitude of the team, rafa benitez mentioned bayern's mentality, praising them for the fact that they didn't panic after the second goal in yesterdays game, they didn't hesitate to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper when necessary and all. this is the most important thing i think chepo has instilled in these players, as we saw the two times they were down in the gold cup against chelsea, i mean guatemala, and the united states. so i at least have that point of reference, the style at which they will face is similar to something we have seen this season already.

i do know they finished second in the euros to spain, but look at the teams they beat: belarus, iceland, denmark and the czech republic. sorry but that doesn't give me reason to fear them or think they'll be the toughest team in the group.

This is what I want our starting line-up to look like:

    -----------------Ochoa------------------
    Mier--------Reyes------Moreno------Ponce

    Gio----------Herrera-------Jona--------Vela

    --------------------Fabian-----------------
    ----------------------------Cheech---------

    Subs:
    Pulido
    Aquino
    Davila

Starting 11 is exactly how i want it to look. Some people are concerned about having 2 left footed CB, but I don't think thats enough to keep Reyes/Moreno off the starting XI if Moreno is called.

It's really not that big of a deal if you're right or left footed as a CB.

Ponce is the best at that position. Fack Chavez. There is no reason we shouldn't play with this line-up. It is the best player we have in each position.

theres absolutely no defensive midfield presence, outside of herrera and then youre going to add a guy that likes to venture up ? This isnt fifa, and our coaches are not offensive minded anyways.

I don't think you give Jona and Herrera enough credit. They both have good defensive attributes and I believe they will work well, because will alternate when going forward. They both have good link up play and can be damn good at pressing.

    Erick Torres

I don't get why Vela is not included? Don't included him because his relationship with FMF is rocky so make it rockier with not including him in Olympics...errr.

Starting Forwards - Chicharito - Gio
Starting Mids - Guardado - Jona - Fabian- Aquino
Starting Def - Ponce - Chavez? - Reyes - Jiminez
    Portero - Ochoa
So we're gonna start 5 Forwards 1 Mid?

Sit Mier (captain/great talent)? Play 3 FBs in the back?
We would be lucky to get out of the group with that line up.

Oh yea I forgot about the Cubo thing, fuck that lol.

I mean he scored the winning goal against Panama but I wouldn't trust him against real competition.

An article loses credibility when they have inaccurate facts. He claims we have each of the last two U-17 WCs, there were a couple more between 2005 and 2011. Also, we have won a major international tournament, FIFA Confederations.
