Hah! I've been saying that all along, but the common perception seems to be that it was just blind luck (and things weren't really that good anyway).

I disagree. Let's not kid ourselves about the first Cup, we were lucky to be there. We won the East with a below .500 record, that wasn't a good team.

But I think mostly everyone acknowledges how good this team was for the three straight years we made MLS Cup. The frustration from those same people has been (and you kept arguing about this) that one more player could have made the difference, but never spent the money on that player.

apart from a 4 year run, this team has sucked for the better part of two decades off AND on the pitch

So ... Benny was called into the USMNT camp today.

He was only called up once while with the Revs (so I was told) but didn't see the field.

Not bad for a crappy player that never tried.

Benny was called in twice while with the Revs - once when Bradley was still around for the Gold Cup, but he got injured in the Galaxy game and couldn't go. The other time was for last year's January camp, where he was active for 2 friendlies and made 1 appearance. He was one of the better players in the first game but didn't make an appearance in the second because a US red card screwed up the sub rotation.

Anyway, fun coincidence he's called back in the second he leaves the Revs.

Overall, my only complaint about this camp roster is Conor Lade, who's dirty and an absolutely terrible back on top of that, but I like this roster a lot.

I disagree, and I'm not sure where you're getting this notion that Lade is a dirty player. Last season he averaged a little over one foul per game (32 in 28 games) and had four yellows and one red card.

Lade should have been sent off in at least 3 matches I saw him play. He's a terrible tackler and a giant prick.

No, and I'd like to make some sort of argument for how the NT coach can see quality even if untrained Jay and Mike can't.

Sadly, I can't make that argument because I think Klinnsman is an idiot.

Well, what you could say is: even someone as dumb as Klinnsman knows Benny is good.

I really badly want to make a height joke here but that's too mean even for me. But seriously, Lade is really undersized even at the MLS level, let alone the international level (as someone who's seen him multiple times in person 5'7" is a VERY generous listed height) and he compensates for lack of size and ability to keep pace by sloppily hacking guys. I get that this camp represents the 4th - 6th string National Team and is essentially a Gold Cup squad tryout, but even by that standard Lade is a really far-out, "huh?" pick.

Having seen a bunch of SKC and NYRB matches, Sinovic was by far more deserving of a callup than Lade among MLS fullbacks. Sinovic is actually really key to SKC's attack going forward and acquits himself really well on both ends.

That makes no sense. Why would Burns have acquired Benny (at a pretty hefty salary) if he couldn't see quality there? The issue was never about whether he had ability or not.
