Anyone making the trip to Sandy, UT for the RSL game? It has not usually been one of the more favorable venues for the Revs.

Salt Lake has certainly not been a friendly place to play for the Revs in the past. Hoping for better this year. Its a long drive to Salt Lake and it will be a lot longer coming home if the Revs don't show up this time.
Just wondering if any of the Revs fans will be making the trip.

Taken from the Revs twitter feed...
Meaning the Revs are 0-6-1 since, which includes last year's 3-3 tie. The last time they won in Salt Lake was in July of 2007, and since then, in the four games played, they've allowed RSL to score 16 goals.

Not quite. First three were not part of the last ten, as they have played 14 times (4-6-4 overall). Two of those 4 wins came in 2005 (RSL's first year). Also, the tweet was wrong, we are actually 2-5-3 in the last ten, 2-0-1 in first three, with 1 game in the middle (a loss).

The last time we beat RSL at home was 8/23/2009.

I'd be absolutely overjoyed with a point here, considering RSL is an awful matchup for us and Rio Tinto tends to make it worse. There's no individual player on RSL that really "scares" me but as a team they're so fluid and organized that they're almost guaranteed to score on young/inexperienced defenses (although Chivas did manage to shut them out somehow).

Ideally I'd like to see a midfield of players who are very good with the ball at their feet, since the Revs only have a chance if they can keep possession in the center.

Sene - Runstrom/Joseph (I think Moreno got hurt in the Colorado game)

    Nguyen - Feilhaber - Simms - Cardenas

    Tierney - Soares - Joseph/Lozano - Guy (if Alston can't go)

    Reis

This game could be a true tryout for Runstrom as a starter, since in limited minutes he hasn't shown much beyond my preseason impression of him as Schilawski 2012. Joseph has also worked well in the last year as a forward and against an extremely physical team like RSL could be an asset in front of goal.

    We'll probably see this instead:

    Sene - Cardenas

    Feilhaber - Simms - Joseph - Nguyen

    Tierney - Soares - McCarthy - Guy

    Reis

Which IMO plays to the weaknesses of several players and doesn't give McCarthy a breather in high altitude against a highly disciplined team. I'd rather have Lozano in if Joseph can't/won't be CB for this game, since he at least has the experience and fresh legs.

Wonderful post. I can't agree more with your preferred line-up (and reasons) versus what we'll likely see, with the only exception being Guy (only because it seems rare to go from OUT to starting fitness in 3 days).

Has there been any word about Alston?

What's going on with Guy projected at RB? He's played outside mid and wing forward so far for us this season. Did he play there in preseason at all? I feel like Barnes is the more likely replacement if Alston can't go.

also just read on his twitter account that Alston made the trip, so I'm assuming he is feeling better and will start.

Guy played RB vrs Portland, after Alston was booted in the face and had to leave the game with a busted nose, and did well (IMO). Barnes is CB who fills in at LB/RB when needed. I, and apparently CottageRev, prefer Guy to Barnes as a RB when necessary (which it seems may not even be an issue).

I'm sure some prefer Barnes over Guy but either way, we're really just discussing #3 on the RB depth chart.

RSL is a very good squad and our key players seem exhausted. Therefore, I think we should play with 5 players Midfield and play counter attack and IMO, a tie is a win for the Revs, but still look to beat RSL.

Runstrom(Fresh)/Sene @ 60' (I think Moreno got hurt in the Colorado game)

Nguyen - Feilhaber - Joseph- Rowe

    Simms
Tierney - Soares - Lozano - Guy (if Alston can't go)

    Reis

Official injury report - looks like Sene has also caught what Alston and Nguyen had. Also confirmed Moreno's injured. Shalrie might in fact have to go up top this time. Not considering Diego an option since RSL will knock him around mercilessly if he's put out there.

PROBABLE: Kevin Alston (illness), Saer Sene (illness)
OUT: Zak Boggs (DL - R ankle sprain), Ryan Guy (R calf stiffness), Flo Lechner (R 5th metatarsal fracture), Jose Moreno (R calf strain), Sainey Nyassi (DL - R hamstring strain), Jeremiah White (concussion)

The only reason he's still a Rev is because his injury protected him from being cut. ;)

Line 'em up... team flu shots.

Well, Jay said that he didn't want Sene to go the full 90 vrs COL, so I guess we'll get a real look at Runstrom? He hasn't shown much but, to be fair, he's mostly been a pretty late sub.

I'm curious about Runstrom too, but I think he's going to look like crap if the midfield doesn't have a good game. Basically if he doesn't get the ball in decent spots I'd guess it's not going look pretty. From everything I've read about him he's more the pure finisher type. I'm thinking Lekic but with less ability to create chances on his own. Who knows though, maybe he'll surprise us.

If Alston's a go at right back, I'd like to see Barnes at left back. I thought he looked lively against Colorado, and Tierney could use a breather.

A positive takeaway is this year we have a #3 on the depth chart.
