I think firstshirt's point is that at this time of year, it'd be hard to pry a decent defender away from another team for just money and/or draft picks. He's right - they'd have to go outside the league, or they'd have to cough up one of their attacking players.

FWIW, I think there's something to this. And the fact that the Revs are issuing a statement has me worried.

If it's crap, then Jeff Lemieux jumps on Twitter and lets #NERevs fans know that JoGo says the interview didn't happen.

I'll let him speak for himself, but I think you're wrong. He made no mention of allocation money in his post, only players and draft picks.

I understand that most teams are solidifying their rosters and would be hesitant to trade a starter at this point in the year, but allocation is far more valuable than draft picks in this day and age.

Allocation money, specifically shit loads of allocation money. Find a team with 3 or 4 starting quality defenders and trad allocation money for one of them.

Someone said it might be Evan Melo, from FC Sion.

Seems to be the culprit. Very young. There's some potential here perhaps.

Idea: Should we start a new thread just to discuss trialists? We know of 2 already basically.

Apparently he's been without a club for the past six months. I wonder what gives...

I don't think it really matters too much, money, draft picks or players. This time of year only a certain few teams in MLS would probably entertain a trade and since the Revs are the ones that would be looking to fill the huge void I would imagine teams would have the Revs by the balls and would want a ransom for a starting caliber player. Also you are talking a solid replacement for Goncalves. There are maybe a handful a players in this league that I would say is of equal value. Everyone else is a step back

I seem to remember FC Scion having some incident last year where they dumped their coach and a big chunk of their roster. I feel like I should know more. I know they had a really messed up season last year. They burned through three coaches. Mismanagement.

It is. 20 year old Swiss-Congolese former FC Sion youth player. Played primarily for FC Sion II, but made a handful of appearances for the first team. Gonçalves joined us from FC Sion, if you remember, and Imbongo is French-Congolese.
