Revs U15s/U16s lose last night 3-0, but are still alive mathematically to advance.

The U-18s are starting right ... now. Revs would need a win, and a Chivas win over RBNY, and to make up a 4 goal differential.

Not really a good sign that the kids are losing to the last place team (with a -4) at the half.

45+' CSA goal: CSA 2, #Revs 1. CSA scores after the 45' mark to go into halftime with the lead.

U15/16s look to be on their way out of the tournament as well. They gave up 10th and 16th minute goals to the Dallas Texans ... did get one back before the half. Down 2-1 at the half.

40+' #Revs goal: Texans 2, Revs 1. Apajee pulls one back for New England, assisted by Nyeayea.

That's not a very impressive portfolio of soccer programs compared to many other MLS academies. A full one third are going to DII or DIII schools. Mitch Taintor is probably going to the highest-profile soccer school, as good players like Nick LaBrocca and Dilly Duka have passed through there in recent times.

They will be a pretty well-educated bunch, at least.

I would have thought that being a part of the Revs development program would have been enough to get most into a Div II or Div I program but maybe these kids are smart enough to know that there future is in college, not chasing a long shot dream. As I have said in another thread (and was attacked for it by one moron) ... this is the right path for 99% of players in the same position as these guys. If playing soccer in anyway helped them get to college then it was worth it. If they still have the dream, then they can give it a shot in 4 years but playing college wont hurt them.

Jay Heaps is a perfect example of a player that followed this path. Jay got a full soccer scholarship to Duke, was All American there and was able to get a degree and still play pro soccer.

I agree. Most kids aren't going to make it, or even come close. I would like to see the academy develop at least a few standouts that go to top soccer programs, though. When it comes to future HG signings, we don't have many irons in the fire. Among this crop, the only school on the list that has had decent pro players pass through is Rutgers. (several backup keepers have gone through Providence as well, including our own Tim Murray).

Moron? I said going pro was the right path for Diego specifically, not every single academy player.

I guess time will tell... personally, I don't see Diego making it though I hope Im wrong. With no college and if for some reason pro soccer doesnt work, I could see him having a tough road ahead

The kid has talent, it's likely he'll have at least a decent career. If something goes horribly wrong and he doesn't, like was mentioned in the other thread he can use the money he collected as a pro to go back and get a degree. Going directly to the pro's out of (or during) high school isn't a good choice for most kids, but it is for youngsters as obviously gifted as Diego.

How many times do we have to repeat the same thing over and over to you? Fagundez is different from these kids. He's a 17 year old kid who has managed to already contribute to a professional soccer team. He's extremely talented and has a bright future ahead of him. However, if for some reason his soccer career is cut short, he'll still have the time and money to attain his college degree.

That, and all you have to do is put "former MLS player" on your resume and some college somewhere will give you a coaching job as a fallback.

Diego's stated a number of times that college isn't in his plans. I think that's pretty much regardless of what happens with soccer.
Pretty much anyone who wants to go to college in this country can. Soccer, as a way to get to college, is way overrated (and misunderstood). In virtually all cases, the money spent along the way (clubs, uniforms, transportation, camps, clinics, equipment, etc., etc.) far outweighs any potential athletic scholarship aid.

Scott Caldwell is currently the leading scorer (5 goals in 8 games) for the Akon Zips, who are ranked 10th in the country. He scored one in their most reason win over Bowling green.

Like I said earlier, this guy probably projects into being at least a second round draft pick next year, and should be a nice added bonus to our draft day acquisitions. It's also worth noting that he would join an already extremely crowded midfield with Toja, Nguyen, Benny, Rowe, Cardenas, Guy, Nyassi and Gavin. Clearly a lot of these guys will have to move on. I personally don't see Feilhaber, Nyassi, and Cardenas with this team next season.
