I couldn't get my son to go to the tryouts because he's convinced they aren't looking at kids bound for college.... he's wrong of course but I couldn't get him to do it. He's still with MPS Crusaders and it ain't cheap
Well one way to show him that he's wrong is the press release from the Revs about the kids who signed their NLIs last week.
I know! The other obstacle is that he's been named captain of CM's team. He doesn't want to leave them, even tho H.S. Soccer is unadulterated shite. He's got one more chance to tryout but I don't believe the Rev's look at too many U17's trying out.
I'm just saying there are a lot variables that go into these types of decisions, and often times the options are limited due to these variables. There are number of reasons that could have prevented him from signing with the Revs or going to college. I'm guessing we haven't heard the whole story on this one and probably never will.
Sure. My guess would be that he wanted to go pro and the RA/Revs didn't think he was ready yet (but, as you say, we don't know the whole story).
Aviza makes his college choice for 2015. Rev Empire player also makes his choice (bottom of the last link).

Can't help but see this as a reaction to Gissie's decision. I don't think this'll seal anything, but it is a nice cherry for the kid and a strong message that they think he fits in their plans. Maybe Gissie never got that message?

@bwidell Seem to recall something about expenses from that tourney instead helping fund the U14s. Might have that wrong, though.— Jeff Lemieux (@jeff_lemieux) April 15, 2014
Fair enough. The Revs fully fund their academy while some other teams don't, so I'm fine with a decision like this.
U15/16s didn't make the Academy Playoffs, finishing 6th out of 11 teams in their division (Empire Revolution finished 8th). U18s finished second in their divison (on a PPG basis)... Empire finished 9th. And the draw is ongoing... I saw this article in my new local online paper. I do not know much of anything about futsal, but are the Revs or and MLS team for that matter investing any time in futsal? Should they?
I don't know if anyone is doing anything now, but they should. I started playing futsal in armories around greater Boston around 2000 and at the time it was supposed to have been recommended or mandated that the US soccer program should have kids growing up playing futsal. I'm pretty sure it never took off though. The game is ideally played on an indoor basketball count, the ball has maybe 20% of the bounce of a regular ball, and is smaller. I can defiantly see where futsal helps with quick passing and tight dribbling, basically tiki-taka. Ronaldinho and Inesta are is probably the most famous players who played as kids. I can't help but mention Falcao, the world's greatest Futsal player, has his highlights on YouTube.
There's plenty of futsal going on. There is a national futsal association (my former college teammate is the USNT head coach!) and regional leagues around the country (there's a league that plays in Brookline and Newton). I don't think the Revs or MLS have anything to do with it. It's great for training, but it's really a different sport.
