For the record, even I'd be against taxpayer money to fund the construction of a stadium.

Taxpayer money to fix Bell Circle so that people could get to the stadium, however...

Bell Circle needs to fixed no matter what happens as far as development around the area. In fact, where Rt. 60 meets Rt. 1, where Rt. 1 meets Rt. 107, where Rt. 16 meets Winthrop Ave., the 1A rotary by Wonderland - all of that crap and more needs to be fixed. Doesn't matter if a Revs stadium goes to Wonderland or not. That is one area in need of major infrastructure improvements in many areas, because what is there is just obsolete and in an appalling state of disrepair.

The NFL stadium was an intrusion to a rural town, the newer stadium an intrusion to their budget. The town couldn't afford a bribe even if they wanted to.

The soon to be soccer stadium in Revere is one of many building blocks in making that area the Atlantic City of the North, thus befitting sweetheart deals.

Yes, we can only hope that Revere might one day match Atlantic City's higher rates of violent crime, property crime, and percentages of both families and the total population leaving below the poverty line. Huzzah for legalized casino gambling... and top-flight soccer action!!!

    :p

Glad that's settled. I can't bear to hear one more person yak about potential or actual city or state funds being 'improperly' used for purpose A or purpose B.

I understand what you're saying. Talking about the politics of building a soccer stadium is fine. Let's just stay away from making this thread be more insane than it already is.

Glad you are injecting something that has nothing to do with the subject into the discussion. Why don't you go off about gun control and the debt ceiling next? They are really relevant in the discussion for a new stadium.

I was saddened to find that there is no longer a "Thoughts that don't require their own Thread" thread. I didn't want to start a new one. Although probably offensive to some who remain passionate about a stadium, this seemed like the next most likely place to put thoughts that don't require a thread. BTW, doesn't the feedback from the Supporter's Summit make the likelihood of a REV SSS seem pretty slim?

So, the thought that doesn't require (or deserve) it's own thread: I'm off to Brest France for a year where I will get to watch Stade Brestois 29 try to keep its head above the relegation line. I will find it interesting to compare REV/MLS play to Ligue1 in person. I've been to their SSS once. It is cozy but small with obstructed views. In short it is also old. They also speak of a new SSS in their future, perhaps moving to the city outskirts from their current central location (but still on their tramline). Perhaps we should establish a pool as to which team will break ground first? My money is on Brest and that public funds will be involved (hey it is France after all).

This relocation will help me greatly in meeting my commitment not to attend REV games anymore. There were some solid offseason moves and I want to be encouraged. But, I still wonder about the quality of REV management and ownership commitment. Still, hard as it is to believe, I hope this is a breakout year for the REVs.

I guess the Part III TTDRIOT was the last gasp, but if anyone wants to start another and the Mods can move these off-tangent posts there, feel free...

So what are you doing in Brest? I spent the summer when I was 11 on a farm near the town of Plumelec in Bretagne, not too far from there. Vannes was the closest "big" town, about 20 km away. For a kid from Brooklyn, it was more "foreign" being on a farm than it was to be in France. There were about 20 kids between 5 and 15, and we all did farm chores every morning. I got kicked in the chest by a cow who didn't like how I was milking her, so the next day I switched to cutting hay in the field with my older brother, using that thing you only see the grim reaper using. It was also where I got my first real taste of "Le Foot."

    Good times!

I should probably wait for a different thread too. But, in brief, My company is sending me there to work with a supplier. All the internet security policies require me to leave company names out. I'll be centre-ville although its smallish compared to greater Boston. I'll try to look up Plumelec. Do you speak breton?

OK, if this is more interesting than the Brigadoon Rainbow Unicorn Stadium, let's carry on until the Mods decide it's gotten too far out of hand and needs to be moved to another thread.

Breton is one of those odd dialects that is more Celtic (with a K) than French, but probably has a mix of both. Maybe it's like comparing Basque with Spanish or Portuguese? I remember my dad, the French professor, asking some older nuns for directions and he couldn't understand them at all... Even then, most people spoke "regular" French there, and I'm sure it's much more the case now. Plumelec is a tiny town, not much there, although I think there is a huge church, but not necessarily a cathedral. Yeah, that narrows it down a lot--you could say that about half the small towns in Europe! The big deal in Plumelec is that the Tour de France went through there a few years ago. Nice countryside, lots of farms and great cheese.

Are Stade Brestois' colors black and white? I vaguely remember seeing a pic of fans waving a "Greek" flag that was black instead of blue, and since they are the "big" team in the area, maybe it was them...

I have some family in Saint-Malo. The only time I made it to Brest was when I was a sniveling little shit at like age 5 or something. Ok, I'm still a sniveling little shit, but whatever. I've been to Saint-Malo a few times. It's pretty cool. A great place to go out fishing from for the day. The Tour de France is actually going through there this July. My family are all big cyclists, so they are shitting themselves with excitement.

Also, Rugby is huge in Brittany, as it is in the south (Toullouse). The food is more English/French than Belgian/French. They drink a shit load of beer.

I thought Stade Brestois was red and white, but I honestly can't remember. The only time I see them is when they are being pummeled by Marseille or PSG. I remember they had a kit that looked like Barcelona's a few years ago. The year Barca had the really thin stripes that gave you a seizure while watching.

Please use this thread for this conversation going forward. I have no idea why, but I can't move posts into an existing thread, only into a new one.
