Hi All, I'm bring my family on a vacation to DC and want to bring them to the Game vs Dall on the 26th. Will we be able to get walk up tickets? (not a problem at Rev games!) Best section to sit in? Pre-game food? Public transport to stadium? Last time I was at RFK it was 1995 gold cup and the 4-0 defeat of Mexico. I should mention I was a proud supporter of the DC and their 1996 victory at a soaked Foxboro! any and all advice appreciated! Camden, ME.
Welcome Down-Easter, walk-up tickets should not be a problem. The lower-bowl of the stadium seats ~ 20,000 and there have only been ~12,000 average attendance so far. Here's a link to a map of the stadium: http://www.dcunited.com/tickets/2014-seating-map The supporter's groups sit in the blue and black sections on the left side of the map. If you prefer a more sedate experience, the "quiet side" is the red and black sections on the right side of the map. I think that all of the 300's seats are under cover, as are the mezzanine (M) seats. The 100's & 200's are not. There are food trucks in Lot 8, before the stadium opens, and there are some good vendors inside, but be careful! I recommend the Pupusas, Quesadillas, and/or Carne Asada behind sections 205, 209, 227, 312, 317. I don't think I would eat anything else inside! RFK Stadium is on the Orange/Blue Metro Line and the stop is called "Stadium/Armory." Check WMATA's website for closings/delays. There should be a link called "Gameday" on DC's webpage at: http://www.dcunited.com/ for more last minute details. That should be up either Thursday or Friday. I hope you brought some of that 1996 Final Good Luck with you!
Coming in Gates A or B from Lot 8, you come in on the Lower Concourse. On the Upper Concourse somewhere near section 312 is a stand for Jerked Ribs / Chicken - The chicken is outstanding - Usually comes with a side of Fried Plantains - Excellent
That I did not know! After tailgating, we normally head up to our seats in the Mezzanine, and never go around the lower level. Thanks for the tip!
FWIW, there's a promotion for $27 tickets that includes a beer. You have to buy them beforehand, though. Have fun!
Not just any beer - a DC Brau DC United themed beer called The Tradition. You make it sound like the poor guy just gets a Modelo or something Have fun! You can also possibly buy Screaming Eagle tailgate tickets for all-you-can-eat good tailgate food (mostly burgers dogs sausages) and great beer, check out their website screaming-eagles.com. Not sure if they still sell non-member tailgate passes or not but I think they do. On the team website they usually list the food trucks that will be in Lot 8 for the game.
This got me to wondering, can you order a seat+beer ticket for your kids? I mean assuming of course that you'll drink most of their beers
At $40 case for tradition (we made that mistake at opener) I'd submit that modelo is way better bang for your buck
You guys rock! Thanks for the help. I'm hoping I can squeeze into my 96 DC White kit with official MLS cup patch, but no promises....Maine winters and beer can be rough on a body after 18 years!!! Maybe I can sew to a shirt that fits. If you hear a Maine accent screaming at his kids to sit down, that would be me. Come say Hi and if I have any $$$ I'll by you a beer.
