I hope Del Bosque at least gives him a chance in the next friendly.

"early indications are that Carvajal's injury has the club very worried"

    on minute later

"after an initial series of tests, Carvajal suffered a minor injury to his hip; nothing to worry about"

    Vs Barcelona

    72 % passing
    2/5 crosses
    1 interception
    0/7 tackles

How can he commit 7 times and win 0 tackles?

They made him look like a 2nd division fullback.
    Sad,but truth.

Iniesta always delivers against us. Messi will take all the plaudits but Iniesta was incredible for them. Sure Dani could have done better but he played against the toughest opponent of his career last night.

I don't remember him tackling 7 times. Anyway, he was playing vs Iniesta, it's not easy taking the ball off him.

My God, Iniesta makes a lot of players look like a 2nd Division FB some of you could do with a healthy dose of perspective.

Modric & Carvajal are expected to double Iniesta and somehow stop him then.
    Carvajal-0/7 and Modric -0/5 tackles.

They were all bad but Carvajal was horrible. His touch and positioning was just amateurish at times. Expected much more from him and I missed Arbeloa's intelligence.

I'd rather bleed Carvajal in games like this, Arbeloa's "intelligence" in fixture like this would've been of little consolation while he was getting torched by Iniesta and Alba. Carvajal taking over means we're going to have to endure games like this once in awhile.

I don't know what chain of events set it up this time but the exact scenario of Carvajal leaving his man and playing CB was replicated in the Sevilla game.He was caught in no man's land just as in El Clasico.Left acres of space for Marin.

Fortunately Rakitic couldn't release Marin(it was I believe) in time 1v1 with Lopez or we could've been easily a goal down much earlier.

I guess 72 hours time was not long enough to correct this defensive error.

Him and Illarra were our two "CB". Pepe, Varane, Marcelo, Xabi, and Modric to some extent were all behind, it was a 4v2 for Sevilla.

I really don't think you can blame him for covering for Pepe/Varane, it was a counterattack and as i said they were all too far from Bacca/Rakitic.

I think both Pepe & Varane were marking the same player .Unfortunately, I haven't found a snapshot of the exact moment.
I think the players don't have a plan -whom to track, when to track and when to double up while applying pressure.
Carvajal's defensive positioning is a big big problem IMO and this is gonna cost us a lot of trouble in the CL when he faces all kinds of tricky wingers.

Dani's defensive positioning wouldn't be a problem if everyone else was doing their job, like not having 2 CBs mark the same player. Singling him out is ridiculous.

Look at Pepe and Varane. Horrible positioning.

^what do you expect from a shit set piece on the other side of the pitch? That's what created the counter and that picture doesn't tell the entire play. Pepe and varane were not at fault at all. Next.

I said it earlier that this goal was a perfect example of how our midfield screws up our defense. I was just defending Carvajals positioning by explaining that he had to try and close down Bacca because Varane and Pere were in a horrible position.

Your post sounded like they were at fault for the position. It was a bad set piece that led to a counter. Really hard to gauge from that IMO. But I do agree that the mid has def issues with creativity going forward...

Today was a good day for Dani, he offered a lot going forward and back on defense. Other than a slightly silly YC he showed a lot of maturity. Does anyone know if he is in danger of suspension for cards?

I think both he and Xabi are out for next Liga game. They'll get to rest up until the Copa Final!
